Strength:

Sound quality.

Weakness:

None so far.

After reading all the reviews,I was a little nervous about this purchase(hence the full price from an authorised dealer)but so far I have been nothing but impressed.I cannot audition different products due to my geographical location so I have to read all the reviews and make a leap of faith.I have nothing but good things to say about this changer,I have had it for a week and it just gets better and better as it burns in.The layout of the remote and the front panel of the changer are different than my last one but I`ll get used to that.As for the"noisy changer",yeah it is,but only if I get on my knees and jam my ear against the thing.

Strength:

Everything. This CDP is incredible for this price point!

Weakness:

Remote is O.K. but nothing special. But really, so what, considering all else this wondrous player gives you.

The Denon DCM-370 is a mindblowing audio STEAL! It appears to be solidly constructed, with good weight and heft to it. And it's sound is magic! Very warm, transparent, velvety, and detailed, with a very musical presentation of music. This player is so good, it can easily be integrated into a high-end system, and hold its own. It is comparable to more expensive, esoteric players as well. And HDCD is very much real, and does make a difference in sound quality on many recordings. All my HDCDs sound very top notch, even my old Dave Brubeck CD which is in HDCD. HDCD does so much justice to digital music, and it is now inexpensive as well. This is a great player you can buy with total confidence, whether you're running a cheap system, or one worth several grand! I give it a solid 5 stars all around!

No Optical out

I have been shopping for new A/V equipment for about a year. I was undecided about replacing my CD changer until I ran into this unit. I casually had been looking at Marantz, and Pioneer Elite units. Never got to listen to a Marantz, the reviews were mixed on some of the units in my price range. But I did get to listen to some of the Pioneers. In my opinion the Denon DCM-370 has a warmer sound, less of that digital edge to it. Along with HDCD, and a price tag that beat the Pioneers, I had to make this purchase. This player is probably one of the better purchases I have made in awhile. I connected it with Kimber Silver Streaks to take advantage of the Burr Brown DACs. All I can say is: "Sweet"!

Strength:

Great sound - clean exterior look -

Weakness:

None at this price range.

This unit is incredible. I currently have a Yamaha 795a receiver hooked up to a pair of Paradigm Monitor 7s. Previously, I was using a Sony CDP-CE545 as my CD source - and was using the Yamaha's D/A convertor to process the sound data. I was able to borrow a friend's Denon 370 to try in my system and was completely blown away. The next day, I returned the Sony, and had to go out and get one for myself. I cannot believe that this unit can be had at its price.

I believe that the new DVD-Audio format may be causing retailers to sell their 'old technology' units at a lower price, but for regular 2 channel stereo sound, this unit can't be beat. I was not expecting this level of quality for the price at which I purchased the unitl

Initially, I was skeptical of the claims that this unit could *improve* the sound from conventional CD's. However, I can attest to the fact that this unit lives up to it's claims. Not only does music in the HDCD format sound better than normal 16bit CD audio, the Denon 370 proves a vast improvement over the standard Digital to Analog conversion that my Yamaha receiver offers.

Just to make sure that it wasn't just wishful thinking, I hooked up both the digital output (skips the Denon's own decoders) and the L/R output (the only reason to even get this unit) to my receiver. I had my roomate switch input at random while I listened, and 9 times out of 10, I could pick out the sound that was being processed by the Denon. It is just amazing to hear your CDs again - and to notice aspects of the vocals and instruments that weren't heard before.

I already had an HDCD CD before I purchased this unit (Econoline Crush - Devil You Know ... a very good album) and was just amazed at how much better it sounded when it was presented in HDCD. Almost all sound seems more 'full' and the staging seems more pronounced. While before it seemed as if I were listening to *sound*, I actually felt that I was listening to a live performance. SImply try switching between the unit's digital source and its decoded analog source - you WILL hear a difference. (assuming you're listening thorough decent speakers with a decent amp).

I must say again, this unit has definetely lived up to my expectations - and has raised the bar at which I listen to music. I cannot afford DVD-Audio, and I defeinetly don't want to re-buy all my CDs. But, if you have a nice 2-channel setup, and haven't been swayed by Sony's SCD, you should definetely consider an HDCD player. While there should be finer HDCD players out there, I feel that this unit outclasses anything else at its sub $250 price range.

Strength:

Awesome high quality sound. HDCD capability. Good looks. Simple to use. Digital coaxial output. Nice remote.

Weakness:

None that would have changed my mind.

I did a lot of homework and shopping before I settled on this player. I planned to take it back ASAP if it didn't live up to my expectations. It did. Awesome high quality clean sound. Plays CDs very loud and with much less power than my old Sony CD player. Sounds better than my single-well Sony DVD too in nearly all instances.

I really think I would have to spend a lot more to get a nicer player. I looked at a Rotel model that was impressive but cost over twice as much. If you want awesome performance and want to be under $300 this is the way to go. And, you get HDCD too which I have tried and I can't imagine how the music could sound any better. I used to think that all CD players sounded the same. Not anymore. There are differences in the models I listened too and the Denon DCM-370 is superb.

Just a few potential areas for improvement. Is a bit noisy when switching disks but this is my first home CD changer and I have little to compare it too. The changer mechanisms in stores all sounded pretty equal. Also there are a few features that require the remote to select--but only a minor inconvenience. No flaws or surprises that would have swayed me towards a different changer.

Overall very impressed and five stars all the way.

Your dissatisfaction probably lies in the fact that you bought a refurbished unit from uBid. Did you return it?

Strength:

Great sound, simple to use.

Weakness:

A little on the large side.

I think this product offers great value and sound. I could tell the difference immediatley upon use and am truly enjoying my music collection all over again. I believe that most changers are noisy and thus cannot be concerned about the noise of the changer especially in this price range. I cannot understand the difference in opinions between this unit and the DCM 65 which is the same machine. Perhaps those buyers had greater expectations for their $200 - $300. I am happy with this product and it is a great pairing to my Denon AVR 2800. I hooked it up with good audio cables not those in the box and everything is sounding full and rich.

Weakness:

Has trouble recognizing CD's

Well, I got the DCM-370 for Christmas. I told my wife that's the one I wanted after reading most of the reviews on here. Out of the box, it sounded a little ruff, but after an hour or 2 it seemed to warm up and sound pretty good. I was pretty pleased with it. Then a few days later, I had a friend come over and bring his yamaha CDC-775 so we could do a comparison. Using my cheap Kenwood VR-309 receiver we did all kinds of tests between the 2. The yamaha won in most of them. The D/A converters in the Denon aren't all they're cracked up to be. The player actually sounded ALOT better using the D/A converters in my Kenwood via the COAX digital connection. The yamaha sounded great using both analog and digital connections. Another problem I had with my DCM-370 (may have been broken?) was that at least 3 or 4 times in 5 days I put a cd in and it didn't recognize it on the first try. I had to open and close the tray and give it a second chance to recognize the cd was there. So anyway, I took the Denon back and am going with the Yamaha. I dont think anyone would be dissapointed with the 370, don't get me wrong, it is a pretty decent cd changer (especially the HDCD). But to my ears the yamaha is just better, and also has a few other features like CD text that the Denon doesn't.

i've never been a denon fan... i always preferred nad, marantz, and harman kardon. i got a chance to listen to the 370 though, and was impressed. when i found out the price, i actually felt bummed i had just bought an hk8350 *with ext warranty, of course*. very, very good cd player (of course i'll claim the hk sounds better, but that's only because it's what i paid for). my hats off to denon for building such a quality product.

Strength:

HDCD decoding, Coaxial output, Unbeatable price

Weakness:

Noisy changer mechanism, No remote on/off switch

For a CD changer at this price, you are getting a steal! I was able to get mine from shop4.com for $199 + shipping. This sounds much more like a $500 CD player than a $200 one. It does everything I would want a CD player to do. Usually CD changers don't sound as good as single-CD players, but Denon has made a quality product here. The reproduction of music is excellent, making me wonder why I would want to spend hundreds more when I have everything I need in my Denon. I don't own too many HDCD's, but it's nice to have the feature. The 18-bit Burr Brown DAC's are DAC's you would find in units costing way more.

I purchased a Marantz 6000OSE before the Denon 370. The Marantz did an excellent job at recreating the music as well. The reproduction was very clear and precise, but almost too analytical, and after a while, causing fatigue. The Denon is sweet to listen, and for long periods of time. The Denon brings out the subtlties of the music, involving the listener in the piece.
