I came across this site while looking for reviews to help me find a replacement for my DCM-370. I've had to get it fixed twice in the past two years for skipping disks and for occasional overwhelming buzzing/static and now the static is back! After paying out of pocket for one repair (the warrantee had expired) I've decided to replace the unit rather than pay for another repair (were I willing to pay it would be the third repair in a little over 2 years). The unit usually sounds great, except for the times when it won't play a disk or produces deafening static, but the horrible quality and repair history leave me feeling like the DCM-370 was a complete waste of money. If you feel that home CD players are not disposable items to be replaced annually, I’d strongly recommend buing froma company with a better repair history.

Strength:

Good sound.

Weakness:

Too picky in playing CDs, it also has an ugly, blindingly bright front display.

After having read numerous reviews over the last several years, I am now sufficiently disappointed in a product that I find myself taking the time to warn other potential consumers against purchasing it. All too often, the DCM370 simply refuses to play CDs. This has been true of brand-new commercially-produced discs, as well as mixes generated on my PC. In the middle of a listening session, the changer will simply skip over the next disc, or decide that it no longer likes one that it has played numerous times before. While sound quality is admittedly good, the frustration factor here is simply too great. I have replaced the Denon with a Pioneer DV354 (DVD player). The Pioneer sounds as good or better, plays all my discs (although only one at a time), and is one third the price.

Strength:

Great sound delivered all around. HDCD capable. Solid Denon performance.

Weakness:

Really none.

Great CD player. All the little nitpicky things like the display being bright or the remote being cheap are very small gripes that really don't detract at all from the enjoyment of this player. The Burr-Brown decoders do a fantastic job of translating the music as it was intended to sound. The transport tracks flawlessly and cue up with no hesitation. It's simply a great player at a great price. Lots of deals to be had out there. Mine is a factory reconditioned model.

Strength:

good sound HDCD sound better than on Harmon Kardon not as much jitter not grainy

Weakness:

played one half of my cds 25% of the time

Initially I was impressed by the sound having bought a denon cd player in !990 that was very good. But after a bit it started skipping over cd' s , but not their burned copies and after a few months it skipped everything. After reading the reviews of others I experimented and disconnected the headphone output. stopped skipping!??(so far)

Strength:

Balance, clarity, HDCD capability

Weakness:

Noisy changer, non-dimmable display.

In our living room we have a nice HT setup with a high quality Toshiba DVD player and Bose speakers. I''d been used to listening to CDs on this setup, but only had some cheap computer speakers hooked up to a Discman in my room. I''ve started building a component system in my room and bought a DCM-370 for the CD player. I was hoping it''d sound as good as the Toshiba DVD player, but it FAR surpassed it! It has great balance coming straight from the player. The audio is perfectly clear to my ears, and I can''t hear any distortion at any frequency whatsoever. I can actually tell the difference between "red-book" CDs and HDCDs (Take 6). Overall the only problems with this player are the noisy changer and the non-dimmable display.

Strength:

The Sound.

Weakness:

The remote, noisy tray. No major weaknesses.

This is a great sounding CD Player. Yes, the remote is cheesy and the display is bright and has no dimmer. But this is really nitpicking at this price point. On first inspection the tray mechanism does seems flimsy. However, I have been using this unit frequently for over a year now and it has operated flawlessly. I should point out that if the CDs must are not sitting in the tray just right the player may not recognize them. Let me get back to what really counts, the sound. You will not find any player at this price point that sounds better. This is truly a 5 star value.

Strength:

Looks,sound,price, and the Denon name.

Weakness:

Lame-ass remote. And yes, the display is real bright, but then, you can see it at 20 feet away.

The demo in the store made a nasty sound when the tray went in, but I still bought a new one in the box, because of all the reviews I read on this site. This model is the replacement for my DCM-60. Not a bad player, but it was four years old. The 370 has kick-ass bass. It sounded as if I had turned up my sub. I''m always pleased with Denon products. Great sounding player. Amen.

Strength:

SOUND, clean interface, quality

Weakness:

no dimmer on display

Despite the problems some people have had with these units, I got one based on the good reviews here, and the Denon reputation. Let me say that it was a very good choice. This player works very well with no problems at all. This changer seems warmer and more revealing than a lot of other players due to the burr brown DACs. HDCD sounds awesome (I wish more titles were available). Keep in mind that you must use analog outputs to take advantage of these niceties. I will probably be getting a second DCM-370 for the bedroom system I''m building. Overall, an excellent choice for anyone who wants good bang for their buck.

Strength:

None

Weakness:

Unit failed after about 45 minutes.

I brought the unit home and it lasted about 45 minutes before it failed. The sound suddenly became incredibly distorted and full of static. I tried other songs and other cd''s all with the same result. I powered the unit off and then turned it back on. At this point it sounded normal again but I didn''t push my luck and quickly shut it off again. The distortion was so sudden and severe that had I been listening at high volume levels I suspect my speakers would have sustained serious damage. I will return the unit as soon as possbile. I have never owned a Denon product before but have heard they have a reputation for quality products. Not in this case. Very disappointing.
