Strength:
Great imaging. Built like a tank. Gorgeous to look at. Cheap (by now). Natural sound.
Weakness:
Does not have balanced cable outputs. This is a great CD player. Previously I used two Proceeds, most recently the CDD. . . a great player in its own right. I also had a Wadia 830 (Stereophile class A). The EAD is much better. The imaging is simply the best I have ever heard. The sound is incredibly real and natural. It is like stripping away a layer of transparency so you feel as if you are in the presence of the aritst. Great looking and built like a tank. At this price point there is nothing even close to it. Highly recommended. Customer Service Fantastic. Similar Products Used: Proceed PCD3 and CDD. Wadia 830 |

I formally owned an EAD CD-1000 Series II which i had upgraded to Series III. The Series III was better than the Audio Research CD-2, seperates from Conrad Johnson, the Krell Kav-300 (or whatever their $3500 player is called), and all offerings from Cali Audio Labs. Now that I have upgraded once again to the Ultradisk 2000 I am experiencing a level of musical performace that I did not think possible from a cD-player. Its strongest points are its excellent bass, pristine highs, very good imaging and soundstage depth, and last but not least an analogue-like smoothness. Music simply flows from the unit un-edited, and totally free from the usual CD nasties. Those who have not heard this player do not know what the current cd standard is capable of. |

Hey you have to try this player. I believe the list is $3000 but I got one for $2000. EAD has a great reputation for digital sound, for example the 9000 DAC is still a Stereophile class A product years after its introduction. Anyway, the Ultradisc 2000 is a single box player with a Pioneer stable transport, 20 bit DAC, HDCD beautiful build quality, great display and remote (but no balanced inputs). It has a completely accurate and natural sound, not at all what I am use to from CD. I used to have a AA DDSIII and a DAC in the box with a Monarchy jitter box. The EAD simply sounds much more like real music...instruments are more natural. The bass is effortless. I compared with the Krell AV 300cd which I found fatiguingly bright. 5 stars from me, though 2k is a lot of money obviously. |

I purchased an EAD Ultradisc 2000 HDCD two months ago. Before purchasing this player I listened to an EAD 1000 through a pair of Martin Logan SL3s and thought it was wonderful. I find the Ultradisc 2000 is even better in all areas. There is more authority on all instruments, there is great depth in the player, there is big soundstage, and music just flows. It doesn't matter what type of music you put in the CD player, the player really delivers. |

I heard the EAD Ultradisc 2000 in a store while shopping for a new preamp and power amp. I knew the EAD was better than my CAL Icon Mk. II. The EAD had an ultra-clean, transparent sound, and music played on it seemed to flow effortlessly. |

The Ultradisc 2000 is at the upper end of the current group of CD players. The build quality is excellent, and the unit is really visual delight. The sound is superior to evrything in this price range by a WIDE margin. To get similar sound from your CDs you will have to step up $2000 more with other companies like Krell or Wadia or go to seperates for even more. The HDCD feature is a real bonus. This unit is unfailingly revealing of CD sound and therefore very unforgiving of downstream inadequacies. It has made much of my CD collection less fatiguing and more enjoyable. This from a dyed in the wool analog junkie!?! You must give this player a listen if you are considering any units in the $2000 price range, and don't want to wait for 96/24 or SACD to come down to reasonable prices. |

My system consists of a Threshold T-200 Amp and Modulus 3 Preamp. Previously, the front end consisted of a Rotel RCD965LE with Alchemy Dac in the Box. Speakers are Monitor Audio MA700 Bookshelf. Room is 12.5x 16. |

The EAD Ultradisc 2000 is an amazing cd player. I just completed my two channel audio system and the ultradisc 2000 made it whole. I may not be considered an audiophile but, I can sure appreciate music. After putting this cd player in my stereo system it made every cd in my collection turn into a concert. I auditioned other cd players like the Krell 300cd, Theta Miles, and the Sony XA7ES. The Ultradisc won my vote. |
