Strength:

Worked OK for a few hours. Lights up and looks real pretty-like.

Weakness:

Doesn't play CDs. Other than that it's reasonably attractive. It's kind of heavy so it makes a great doorstop. You can keep houseplants on top of it since it doesn't work so you don't have to worry about water getting in it and ruining it.

Bought two decks on Ubid-- "refurb" 8350s. One recieved as 8550 (by mistake?) still works. The 8350 worked for about 2 hours and then stopped recognizing discs (no error message, just tries to cue them up for a while, gives up, and goes to the next tray). Ubid contacted, don't know what I'm in for but I think I need counseling for ordering these AFTER reading reviews here (they were so cheap!!).
I should note that the 8550 sounds NOTICEABLY better than the 8350 or my previous 8300 when they were working-- was able to compare side by side-- less distortion, better definition. I can't imagine that the 83xx sounds any better than your average $89 Kenwood deck at Best Buy . . .Hope this helps someone avoid a hassle. Look forward to hearing about the class action suit.

Strength:

sounds much better than the cheap JVCs, Technics, Sonys.

Weakness:

cannot play two out of over 200 CDs

This is a follow up to a review I wrote back in Sept. I have been using this player and comparing it to two others.(Technics SL-PD8 and Sony CDP-CE335). The HK sounds much better, both as a transport only or using it's internal DAC,
than the above mentioned players. The sound is smooth and detailed, with an excellent upper end and tight bass. I have had only two problems with this player; two discs that it will not play. The problem appears at the same spot on both discs, which leads me to believe it's the disc. The HK does not really skip on these discs, it stops at a certain point on the disc and cannot continue to read it. Both discs play fine on the Technics and Sony, but the sound quality suffers. I am going to replace one of these discs to see if the HK will play the new one. I would not give up the sound quality of the HK just because of a problem with two discs. So far I have had no problems with the player recognizing discs in the tray, it sees them every time. I will not give up on this player

Weakness:

defects,defects,defects,defects!!!!

harmankardon fl-8350/70 cd-changer
in the year 2000 i owned 4 defective h/k cd-changers.
the company even sent me 2 defective replacements. the
players would even read 5 full trays as no-disc.
we need a law-firm to initiate a class action suite.
they knowingly failed to recall the defective line.
they even sent out defective replacements. interested

Strength:

Good sound and asthetics

Weakness:

on occasion will not recognize discs

This CD player worked beautifully for 4 months and then it stopped recognizing discs. Presently, it will only recognize one disc when there are five in the machine. However, there is no pattern to the problem and I do not know what to expect tommorrow. When it worked, it was a great(five star)player. H/K claims to have corrected the problem, but I strongly advise purchasing an extended warranty.

Strength:

Sounded good (note the past tense)

Weakness:

Stopped working

About a year and a half ago, I purchased a new receiver and CD changer from Harmanaudio.com Their prices were reasonable and the products carried the same factory warranty. Long story short...it sounded great for the seemingly short time it worked. I played it maybe twice a week (+ weekends). As we were decorating our Christmas tree this year, my wife had her favorite Christmas CD playing and when the unit tried to rotate to another disk, an error message started flashing on the LCD, but the unit wouldn't respond to any button-pushing. It died a quick death and took the CD with it. I took the casing off and got my CD out, but it was broken in half! Oh well, I guess I'll move on to a DVD/CD changer now!

Strength:

Sound quality, Clarity, Aesthetically pleasing, and Brand name.

Weakness:

CD recognition

Of all the CD players I have owned, this is by far the least reliable. Although the sound is good, the CD recognition has gotten progressively worse. I have had to exchange it twice within a month of purchase. After two years, it hardly recognizes any CDs anymore. My brother and I bought this together and he has the same problem

Harmon's quality is extremely poor, and I would NOT recommend purchasing any of their CD changers.

Strength:

Detailed, pleasant sound in hi's, mid's, and lo's. Not as bright as Sony ES models or high end Denon's. That's good.

Weakness:

Inefficient & slow tray mechanism. Gotta be patient.

This is my party music source. Very nice sound that rivals my high end system. I purchased CC's demo unit and have none of the problems mentioned in previous reviews. I guess I'll just hold my breath each time I push a button on it...
At least they don't explode !

Well I gave this unit a good review. But now I see what others have been saying about HK CD product line. I have it a little over a month and the unit is begining to skip on CD that have minor scracthes on them. I have read that this happens with these units. I have 3 other CD palyes that play them with no problem at all. I guess I have to lower the rating. Sorry HK but this unit is not woth the money at all.

Personally I have been very dissapointed in the quality of this product. When I first bought my HK everything worked fine, however after a few months it would not recognize discs. I returned it and got a new one, however now the LCD screen is fading. Some of the numbers dont light up as brightly as the others. I do however think that it sounds better than my parents Dennon DCM270. It wasnt worth the $300 I paid for it though

Below you will see my review of the H/K FL8350. Since that review I have changed my mind about the product and the company. I recently e-mailed H/K to complain. They replied with the following message:
I can't apologize enough for the problems that you have experienced.
However, the good news is that we (as a company) have realized the problems
with the FL8350 and have fixed them. Any new unit you get should not have
anymore problems.

Please return the unit to your dealer for another replacement. If you can't
do this for whatever reason, please forward me your daytime phone number.
We will call you and make arrangements to replace your unit with one that
has all modifications.

Again, I am sorry for the headaches.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Joe Chinnici

The new unit I got has had no problems, and the h/k serivce has been great.
