O.K. I don''t really own this CD player, but I use Marantz CD players at the college radio staion I am A DJ at, and I just want to say how awsome Marantz build quality is! At the station we have 6 marantz CD players, and the trays get ejected...O...about 500 times per day, 365 days a year. We get about three to four years out of them, and thats at 500 TIMES PER DAY!!!!!!!!!! I also own a Marantz DVD player at home, and I love it! the dv-7010!! BUY MARANTZ!

Strength:

Looks nice- pretty good sound for under $300- cd-rw playback

Weakness:

remote response-stupid disc skip

I pretty much bought it for the Marantz name and to get rid of my weakest link- my sony cd player that doesn't owe me a dime but was dead. It does sound better than the sony and the cd-rw playback is nice. I pickd it up on sale for $250. Not a bad price for marantz sound, but if you're not really into audio perfecion "at a lower price", than something cheaper won't sound as good possibly yet it won't be a big difference. I hooked up the digital through my pioneer elite dac and thought the marantz's dac sounded better. I thought it looks nice and I don't have a problem with the size of the display except for the disc playing icon continously blinks- kinda cheesy. It takes like a second for a remote signal to respond on the player and you can't disc skip continously- it wants to play each cd before skipping to the next. First one I took home was totally broke and the shop said is was shipping but who knows?- The new one is fine. I liked the features in my sony better but I traded them for for better sound- and I hate the lack of a music calander. Overall, it has odd and a lack of luxury features but you get a nice sounding 5 disc changer for under $300.

Strength:

Great, great analogue sound (I use MITerminator 2 interconnects), and I haven't even broken it in yet. It's warm-sounding and literally fun to listen to. Imaging is superior to my old Panasonic and Sony players, as is the soundstage. Instruments come out of their shells, as do voices and bass notes.
If used as a transport, it's more than capable. The tray is fast and sturdy, and allows for play exchange. CDs play very smoothly, even ones whose songs end flowing into the beginning of the next, such as Depeche Mode's "Black Celebration." CD-RW playback is nice, although I doubt I'll use that type of disc for music. So far flawless laser pickup of all recorded media passed through it (Philips makes the lasers used in this line). I've had the changer for a day and I can already tell the build quality is excellent.

Weakness:

Bad recordings will definitely show. Of course, that's what makes a good CD player great, it reveals everything on the disc it plays. So I guess that's not a weakness after all. Okay, no weaknesses!

Sure, Marantz costs a bit more than the much-hyped Denon and Yamaha 5-disc units out there, but I've read about Denon's mechanical shoddiness and I've heard first-hand Yamaha's thinness. I can't believe how much better the Marantz is than both of them. I'd recommend this product to anyone on a budget or anyone who just plain wants good sound. The all-around best audio purchase I've ever made.

I can't stress enough what a great product this is and what a great company Marantz is. They've converted me to hifi for sure now. Guess that sucks for my pocketbook! Well, if I can still get such quality equipment for this low a price ($125 for the changer and an Audioquest coaxial cable), I'll be in great shape.

Strength:

build, sound, ease of use

Weakness:

None so far. Haven't had it long enough to comment on reliability, but it seems very sturdy.

When I first turned it on I was stunned. It sounded as good as some of my best LPs on a Shure V15/project 1.2 setup, and I heard things such as treble and base detail and fullness I had never heard before on my CDs. Overall it sounds clean and almost live. Quite an accomplishment at this price.

By comparison my JVC CD player sounded almost shrill and irritating on my particular set up (Rotel and MCIntosh amps, NHT ones and zero speakers, and a Mission Sub). My son took the JVC and it improved his system which was way too layed back (Kenwood receiver and Criterion 71 speakers).

Strength:

Great Sound, logical simple controls, 3 year parts and labour warranty, quiet and fast disc changing

Weakness:

Blinking Disc Indicator looks out of place. Is bigger then my old HK changer.

I finally got fed up with my HK changer that was getting more and more flaky all the time. Bought this unit on a bit of an impulse...

I hadn't realised how downhill the HK unit had gone. It is like listening to my CDs all over again. The Marantz sounds more detailed and has much fuller bass in particular. I had been thinking that my 15 year old Axiom speakers and my 22 year old HK amp were getting a bit tired... but it was the bloody HK changer. It had been nothing but trouble anyways.

Strength:

Great rotational speed, build quality, text easy to read, great value

Weakness:

Everytime you reopen the tray, it has to re-read all the CD's one by one, the remote is lightweight to the point of it feels cheap and the buttons are obnoxiously small and closely spaced

So far, so good. I can't tell how good this one truly is because I switched amplifiers at the same time I bought a new CD-player, but no major complaints other than listed (which are minor gripes). I do wish it had CD-text though. Overall, I am satisfied.

Strength:

The sound is great considering it cost less than $200. It's very well built and pleasing to the eye. Also comes with a 3 year warranty !!

Weakness:

No SACD ?...I can only wish at this price point !!!

I have not tried the analog outs yet, I'm using the coaxial output to my 96/24 dac in my Onkyo. All I can say that it simply sounds great, I feel sorry for people spending much more money on Adcom,DENON,HK or Sony ES models. This thing even comes with a 3yr warranty !!...Overall I'm very pleased with the mechanics and build quality, It's very quiet and again it sounds great !!

Strength:

Good sound from a disc changer that compared well to the Marantz CD-4000.

Weakness:

Lack of a standby button on the remote.

It has a sound quality that really suits my reciever (Marantz SR-870) and Polk Audio RT8 speakers, can't use the digital out as my amp doesn't support it. I had no problem with the audio RC outs....until I was given an LFD Spiro III interconnect and then it blew me away with how much better it was compared to the interconnect that came with the unit - I mean so much better that I felt I had just upgraded to the marantz CD-6000.

Why do they do that ? give away an interconnect that does not get the best from their unit - they would be better to not supply one at all and then at least people would get directed into a decent cable.

Also now using QED Qudos speaker cable and achieved a similar improvement in sound repoduction to the interconnect upgrade.

Strength:

The sound that comes from the analog outs. Quick Tray.
CD-R and CD-RW playback is excellent. Did I mention the
sound?

Weakness:

Remote. But hey I got a Radio Shack 15-1994. You thought that this player didn't have standby. Well it seems that Marantz left the code off of there remote. But the 15-1994 found it. (www.hifi-remote.com)

This cd player is amazing. I lived with 515 for about four months until my friend wanted it back because his high-end player kept breaking. The Yamaha was just something to hold me over until I found a player. (Not to say that I wasn't happy with the Yamaha). I just felt that the sound coming from the analog outs could have use a hair of attenuation of the high frequencies. BTW, my receiver DAC is good but I still felt like I was missing something. In comes the Marantz CC-3000. I couldn't believe it. I did want the convenience of a 5-disc but I thought I would have to give it up. I was simply amazed by the sound. I never felt that this player was harsh. It is just so musical. I have tried all types of music. I highly recommend this player. In the past I contemplated getting an outboard DAC, not anymore. I am completely satisfied.

Strength:

Very clean looks and sound. Good rotation speed.

Weakness:

No direct access panel on unit. No sound difference between this and my Technics SLPD-1000.

I bought this unit looking to upgrade my sound. I am now running an Outlaw 1050 receiver and wanted a new CD player to go with it. My old player, Technics SLPD-1000 is probably the most user friendly and feature packed of any that I have seen. It is a few years old but has a digital optical output. I hooked up the Marantz(digital coaxial output) side by side with the Technics(digital optical output) with the same CD(Dave Mathews Crash) and heard absolutely no difference. When running these units in analog(RCA inputs) there was a very big difference but none whatsoever in digital output.
It seems that once the output is digital, the sound is the same, so why spend more money for a unit with fewer features.
Congrats to Technics.
