It's the cheapest cd player I ever bought and one of the best if not the one... After all this years the CD-67SE can stand with ease loud and proud in an expensive sound system and deliver fantastic sound! I don't buy comments that include "for the money" etc. This is one hell of cd player period. No weak points, buy it, and if you still don't have that "million dollar sound", be sure it's another device's fault :-) |

I have to say, I've owned many CD players form the likes of Rotel, Sony, Yamaha, Denon etc. The CD67SE is by far leaps and bounds above anything I've heard! Paired with my B&W 703's it is a match made in heaven and the slightly laid back presentation of the Marantz has tamed the somewhat forward sounding tweeters in my 703's very sweetly. The sound is dynamic yet smooth. Compared to my Marantz SACD/CD player...well there is no comparison to my ears! I'd pick the CD67SE every time and I've tested this many times. Are there "Better" players out there?? Honestly I don't know. I say this because firstly, sound is completely subjective. Second, I think it's true that increased expenditure many times equals diminutive returns with regards to increased performance and many times all you're paying for is R&D costs, exotic materials and veneers etc. many of which have not been proven to improve performance. I simply can't imagine liking another CD player "more"...differently maybe ...but not more. Marantz has been doing their thing for decades and have it down pat IMHO. I think it's funny when people call Marantz "MID-FI" seemingly "only" based on their very reasonable price points. Try this player out "if" you can find one and just enjoy the music... isn't that what it's all about? Cheers! |

This has to be one of the best Cd players made in its price range. Love the good bass truely a very good player for all types of music. I run mine with an old Nad 3020 in my bedroom very good combo for a budget system with big sound. |

Strength:
Stunning clarity, sweet sounding at the $400+ price
Weakness:
Tonally incorrect and slightly towards the bright side. Good for casual listening. Remote volume set to full when switch on which is dangerous for direct link to power amp. Without comparing with other similar players, the 67SE sounds sweet with depth and clarity. The sound is focus more towards the midrange region and up. Bass is lean and not punchy as compared to other players that I own. In my opinion this is one of the tradeoffs for the clarity and and depth. Strength:
looks, fuctionality, ease of tinkering with, all the necessary o/p, HDAM's
Weakness:
A bit bright For $300 US I can not complain about this cd player a great amount. At first I used a $250 Panasonic 5 disc cd changer with my Marantz SR8000 and as soon as I swithed over my music cd's breathed a new life. I also had the CD 10 and the cd63 and to me the 67se has a much warmer and dynamic sound. The 6000OSE had very poor base and sounded way to bright for me but although the 67SE is not perfect the O/P to $ ratio is what makes me quite happy. Actually the retail price in CDN $ was $899 but because I got the second last unit in the store I got it for $429 CDN or about $300 US. The ability to lower the O/P level on the analogue O/P is also a nice feature as the analogue I/P on the SR8000 is quite sensitive (HOT) and always seemed to peak on all of the other cd players. Due to its price I give it a 5 star rating, but its a bit on the bright side so the overall rating is 4.5 stars but I will be generous and give this particular CD player 5 stars. Also I am currently upgrading most of my caps in the 67se as that will improve the sound characteristics as well. If anyone needs info on which ones to change then read the reviews on the 67se MOD. Marantz and you will trully have a unique product. Similar Products Used: Marantz CD10, CD63, 6000OSE |

Strength:
detailed and comfortable sound
Weakness:
a sort of sweetness and flatter Well, I agree that Marantz 67se is a great value. It`s a pity, but new 6000OSE model is not half good as it gets. My system includes Maratz SR4000 receiver and AE 109 loudspeakers, so it has the "british" accent. I enjoy my 67se very much and reccomend it in up to $500 price range. Strength:
Excellent sound, good build quality, elegant looking unit
Weakness:
CD tray mechanism feels and moves unsmoothly. After one year of looking for a single disc CD player around a $500 range, I've finally found what I've been looking for. Some of the other units I've been considering were Rega Planet, Dynaco cd-pro, and Onkyo dx-7911. Unfortunatly, I was unable to audition any of these players. Armed with just reviews on the web and a price list, I felt confident that this was the one. Considering the price(about $350)and quality, this has got to be the best bargain available today. The sound is great (after 2 day break-in) and the build quality is fantastic. The sound is pleasant and the looks are great. I highly recommend this unit to anyone with a mid-price budget.
