Strength:
Totally natural sound, lack of glare, imaging.I don't just hear the notes being played, I hear HOW the notes are being played.
Weakness:
Haven't found any yet! Some people have mentioned the remote, but who cares when the player sounds as good as this. The only problem I now have is the need to upgrade some other aspects of my system to really get the best from it! I read the reviews of this astonishing machine but was still completely unprepared for the transformation it has wrought in my CD collection. Even recordings which I have had for years and thought I knew "inside out" reveal new details and subtelties. Brass instruments in particular sound really "brassy", and there is no hint of digital glare which, particularly with violins, has been a continual bugbear with my CD collection. The soundstage is astonishing with pinsharp imaging and real front to back depth. Since buying this machine I have done more listening than I have done for years, and there can surely be no finer test than that.I haven't even bought a new CD since getting the player as every CD I listen to is like a new recording. Strength:
Plays music with so much pleasure, the best out there for any money. Build seems to look like it will last for ever. Hope so. Plays cdr,s and text info but you can hear the changes all to clearly when playing cdr,s. So have to buy original cd,s which is well worth it. Any one want to buy a cdr mashine?
Weakness:
Crap Remote, but dose the job. I have over time from an early age been a big fan of music of all types from pop, disco, jazz you name it, I have it in my collection. But trying to find a stereo system to play it on which can play all types of music and not just one type over an other type of music is impossible.I allways had to make a trade off, But not any longer! I had heard about this cd player which the company was saying can make your old cd,s sound like sacd,s. OK I said after putting off buying a Marantz sacd because you coudn,t buy any sacd,s for it. So I got a listen to the only one in use in the UK at the time. Armed with everything that I could carry in my sports bag headed up to London,s Covent Garden. I didn,t need much tome to know that this was the most musical involving digital device that I had ever heard. This is not sixteen bits of 0,s and 1,s that I swear most people in the world are use too. You will never tire of the sound from this mashine, as in the past with other players I would get bored with it after some time, same old sound. thats because thats all your mainly hearing.....sound! From this mashine you hear MUSIC!!! as simple as that. the way it should be, Plus what ever you play, being very high quality recordins or cheaper compressed mainstream fodder, this mashine would delite you with everything you would wished to hear. I hope this thing lasts because after buying one (75/500) I won,t be in the market for a cd player for as long as this one can stay in working order. I have over 500 cd,s and feel I could have wasted a whole lot of money starting up a new format, be it sacd or dvd-a. If any one out there can get their hands on this device, what ever the cost will have their lives greatly inproved if like me love the pleasures of real music after a hard days work, what ever you listen too. By the way, it looks good too but I couldn,t care what it looked like as it dose what it dose so perfectly. And the more I use it the better it sounds time after time.......This thing seems to never want to run in, just gets better as it gets older...GREAT! Similar Products Used: There isn,t any! |

The last great CD player on earth.
Weakness:
None The Musical Fidelity Nu-Vista 3D delivers as promised. I use it with a MF Nu-Vista M3 Amp and 3.2CR amp (biamped) and Monitor Audio Gold Ref 60 Speakers. Great for Jazz, vocals and orchestral music. A friend of mine thought it was an SACD player! |

Weakness:
NONE This is an AMAZING piece of gear. I went through several players before "stumbling" upon the MF ... I had tried Rotel, Electrocompaniet, Arcam, Meridian, Wadia, BAT and Cary. All good machines, except for the Cary (loved the sound, hated the quality control). Since I was very, very pleased with my MF A3cr preamp and A300cr power amp (225 wpc), I thought I'd go with the 3D CD to get that "system synergy" I've heard spoken of so often. WELL, let me tell you, I got that and a whole lot more. I'm not gonna get into all the trite descriptions about air, soundstage, bass extension, etc. They're there in spades. I will say that the 3D CD makes virtually every disc sound fabulous. There is a presence, a sense of rightness about it which is indescribable. It's built like a tank, no make that TWO tanks. I don't know whether it's the nuvistor tubes, the upsampling, the rock solid power supply, the choke regulation, the dual mono nature of the unit, or all of the above. All I know is that I just LOVE sitting and listening for hours without fatigue and with a smile on my face a mile wide. Strength:
Sound, build and exclusivity.
Weakness:
Cheap looking remote. I could not be more pleased. In my view, great sound and build, effortlessness and spaciousness are the terms that describe the 3D's performance best. And it's not for everyone, too, as there will only be 500 made. Mine is gold/aluminium-colored, but you may want to consider getting the version with the platinum-plated decoration. |

Got a call from my local dealer (as a M3 owner) to come down and have a listen to the new MF 3D. Had read the reviews and was curious just how good this machine was..although firmly convinced it couldn''t be that much better than my MF A3 CD to warrant the cost. Arrived at the dealer and did a side by side of the A3 and 3D, using the M3 and a set-up similar to what I have at home. I absolutely couldn''t believe the difference. An hour later I walked out the happy owner of the 3D, certain that I had one of the best sounding CD players ever built and equally certain I could never be satisfied again with the A3. My system sounds cleaner, crisper, more dynamic and overall an order of magnitude better since adding the 3D. My wife, who is an occasional listener but overall doesn''t care much one way or another about the whole audiophile thing, agreed wholeheartedly that the 3D ''sounded great and was worth the investment'' after about 15 minutes of listening to her favorite CD. Not sure if any of these are left out there or not, but if you''re in the market and can afford the $$$...you won''t be disappointed. |

Strength:
Liquidity and transparency. The balancing act of producing fine detail without becoming overly analytical or fatiguing. After some months of deliberation, I decided to take the plunge (on what is quite an expensive component in Ozzie dollars) and order the 3D. I believe I got what is pretty much the last one available in Oz and after a few weeks of listening I''m feeling pretty bloody lucky. All the brightness and etch which I''ve lived my whole digital life with have disappeared entirely. The sound is just so listenable that I''m turning up the volume on tracks with a brass section, rather than the opposite. Nine and a half grand (Ozzie) is a fair lump of cash (although MUCH less than some of the other gear I''ve heard which sounded anything like the nu-vista), but the knowledge that I''ll be living with something this close to real music for the next 10 years and more is compensation enough. At that rate I''ll be spending more on coffee on a per week basis. Following the convention evolving in the above reports, I''ll quote my model number: #99. A fun coincidence for a guy named Max... Smooth life like revealing analog sound, about the best I have heard
Weakness:
None with the CD but the remote is cheap! I have been on the upgrade trail and was keen to replace my 10 yr old Meridian 602/606 transport/DAC combo. This was state of the art when I bought it and it gave wonderful trouble free service. I was about to go the SACD route and was looking at the Marantz CD1 and the Sony ES tempted by the excellent reviews but put off by the lack of SACDs. I had listened to the Linn CD12 but although good didnt think the price tag was justified. I have had good experience with MF and have got 2 A3CR power amps biamped. After reading the Stereophile review I decided to take the plunge on the basis that I could send back if no use. I ordered from Kevin at Upscale Audio....great service and proudly took delivery of number 16/500. The mannual promises that you will hear new things on all your CDs...and they were right. Straight out of the box on an extended listening period several things struck me. Firstly the natural detailed sound....I heard on all CDs some new info not previously heard. Secondly the sound stage is incredible..open wide with pin point accuracy of players. The bass is good and loosened up within the first 50 hrs. Similar Products Used: Meridian 602/606 |
