Strength:

Solid performance, well built, great sound.

Weakness:

None

This review is refering to the 541i model but the quality of NAD is shown in this as well. I went on a quest to build my first audio system and found myself buying the NAD T773 receiver and the 541i for my cd player. So far its been great. I initially got the 521i but found myself looking for a long term cd player and the 541 was just a better buy. So far Ive learned that there is no limit to how far you can go with home theatre/audio. I think I found a good place with NAD.

Strength:

Extremely good detail and low frequency reproduction.

Weakness:

Exposes the limitations of your equipment. Makes you want to upgrade the rest of your components to match the potential of this CD player.

This review is for a 2004 C542. I purchased this player to replace a broken (and mediocre) Sony ES carousel player. After reading the many positive reviews posted on this site for the C542, and the older C541 and C540, I decided to give this player a try. I'm sure glad that I did. When I first fired it up, I immidiately noticed that it had extremely good low frequency reproduction and output. After 24-48 hours of break in, the true capabilities of this player began to show. Vocals are extremely natural and smooth sounding. I can hear subleties in vocals that were never present when I had the Sony hooked up. When listening to instrumental discs, I can pick out individual instruments in the background. Detail overall is outstanding. I am very happy with this player, which has made me rediscover my CD collection. My only gripe is that it has exposed the limitations of my system, consisting of Paradigm Mini-Monitor main speakers, Kimber PR4 speaker cables, and a Denon 3803 7 channel receiver.
