Strength:

Aesthetics. This is a nice looking player. Too bad it doesn't work!

Weakness:

Terrible Nakamichi customer service; terrible player.

I no longer have any respect for Nakamichi. This player frequently misreads discs (even new ones), and skips on most. This is simply unacceptable for a CD player that has been doing this since I bought it new! You would think the folks at Nakamichi would honor my valid complaint and issue me a refund or send me out another player, but of course NO! They gave me some bull story about how they don't really manufacture this, and it just happens to have the Nakamichi name on it!!!!

To me, they are nothing but CROOKS that will not stand behind their products. I spit on Nakamichi, and will NEVER buy another one of their products again!

This has to be one of the better cd players that I have heard. This CD player allows you to change discs while one is playing (which is a really nice feature). I was using optical out, and it had a very clear and warm tones. I have to give this player five stars.

I liked the sound quality on the Nakamichi a lot. It sounds much better than my 18-bit Discman (which I always thought sounded exceptional). What I did not like about it was the long time it took to change discs. But all in all, it was a great buy (I got it for $85 brand new).

I bought it new from uBID. So it was VERY CHEAP.
The unit sounds good; however it makes a weird high frequency noise
when some CDs are playing. (eg. SOLACE tracks 4 and 5, WISH YOU WERE HERE
track 3 ... )

I have sent Nakamichi e-mails asking about this but no support. uBID obviously will not support these kind of problems.

SOUND is 4.0
MECHANICAL/QUALITY CONTROL is 0.0

I too was looking for a bargain on uBid. Don't get sucked in to buying these things! It is a nicely styled door stop. After playing a disk, it has warmed up enough so that the motor spindle starts spinning elipitcally causing an audible whine (really noticeable when the player is in the Pause Mode). After a couple of disks later, the whine is unbearable and also causes the laser to mis-read the disk. I guess I'm out $77 but have gained an increase in knowledge. If it's too good to be true, don't buy it!

I thought I was getting a great unit, on the strength of the Nakamichi name alone (as the saying goes, 'you can knock a Sony, but you can't Nakamichi'). Well, i'm here to 'knock' my Nakamichi. I got this thing for my secondary bedroom audio setup, and the laser mistracks and skips quite frequently. I e-mailed and called Nakamichi, and they have not even replied! This is NOT good customer service, and I now don't know if I ever want to purchase another Nakamichi prodcut ever again. Now I know their tape decks are phenomenal, as well as a lot of other products they make, but this one, at least for me, has turned out to be a big piece of junk. With a player that 'skips' often, I am now out about $200.

Strength:

Well my Nak receivers remote works with it

Weakness:

Poor S/N

I wish I had read these reviews before spending $100 on ubid.. snap crackle pop as one reviewer said somes it up.. it seemed like it had good dynamic range.. but the noise was distracting.. It now belongs to my niece who loves it.

Strength:

Sounds Good

Weakness:

Had a defect, now fixed

OK, I posted the review one day too early.
I got my CDC200 back from Nakamichi.
They repaired the hi frequency whine under warranty.
It came back with the problem fixed.
They replaced the SV-AJ-MFC-000 and the Base Unit Holder, whatever they are.
Nakamichi has not returned any e-mails I sent them, but eventually I got hold of their customer service on the phone.
I got it real cheap from UBID initially, I think it was about $77 plus their $27 or so odd dollars S&H.
For this kind of price, the unit cannot be beat.
I am entering 5's to offset my 1's I entered yesterday.

So, folks who bought it from UBID, you are covered under warranty. Use it before it expires. It will cost you postage but Nakamichi does repair it no charge.

Good luck to others with problems.

Strength:

Change 3 discs while 1 is playing.

I replaced my Yamaha 5 disc carousel changer with this NAK. It's a very good machine that produces very clean and well rounded sound - but not too bright. Lots of features - on the front panel and also on the remote (music scan, time indicator, fader, shuffle play, adjustable output level etc.) but no headphone output. A little noisy when changing discs ( but so was the Yamaha - even more!) Overall, it is great value for the money!

My opinon on this model is that its good for someone who is not into paying alot of money. It switches to other cd's with on problem and plays wonderfully. I bought on Ubid.com for $95.00 and very happy with it. If you are on a budget and want quality CD Changer. Then get the Nak CDC200
