This Sony CDP-CE215 is the worse CD player I had so far. Some cheap ass $ 20 DVD players do a kick-ass job compared to this player.
It plays 3-4 seconds of a track, then goes back to the beginning. On the 2nd shot, it might play 10 seconds and goes back to the beginning of the track....and so on. I have to play tracks # 3 or 4 and above on a CD for it to play continuously (without going back to the beginning). Oh, a tiny little scratch on a disc ? FORGET ABOUT IT !!
Not really surprising, Sony optical products in general are pretty much all crappy to begin with (consumer level products).
Same goes with car systems; like when they had the "XPLOD" line, at least they chose the perfect name for it since they do EXPLODE (especially subwoofers). I'm surprised that the FM radio don't skip while playing...
I sold electronics for 6+ years in a retail chain (won't name it) and we had this saying that if you sell 3 Sony car systems, 4 will come back (at least HAHA).
To this day, I simply don't understand why people keep buying Sony audio products even though they're told how "good" they are. Perhaps the name makes the sale, nothing more. Smarten up people. STAY AWAY !!!

Strength:

Good budget cd player

Weakness:

not such great sound, but you need a goos system to notice

well, I have had this cd player for 5 odd year..
nice player
reliable, fast, quiet..
not any read issues with sound quality - no multi disc unit will sound too great, and this ones no exception - just good..
And to the people who claim DVD players make better music?
your dreaming or you have some exceptionally crappy DVD players... read some of the news groups....

Like the other reviewer (Richard), I find my recently-purchased CDP-CE215 to play CDs great that always skip on other players.
Two features I really like about the unit is Peak Search and the ability to match tracks to a tape length (ex. 90 minute cassette). Also, The display is clear and very easy to read.

My only discrepency is that I wish Sony would havee included a remote at the price I paid for it (about $160 from Sears).

Strength:

Plays CD-RW's, nice features

Weakness:

None i can think of

Good CD player for the money, esspecially, cosidering the fact that it plays CD-RW's, "nice unexpected bonus" which is nice if you burn your own CD's like i do. That way you can audition the CD to see if you like it or if it has any errors. Never had it skip & track access is fast, plus if you have a CD with more than 20 tracks it will play & program them. To anyone who burns there own CD's(on a computer)& would like a cheap CD player that plays CD-RW's, i would recomend looking at a Sony. Sound quality is good for a low grade CD player, but not audiofile quality. Good bass response. The feature i like the most is the auto fade, instead of have to pause the player & then start it at full volume "say when i get a phone call", i just fade it out, & then after the call fade it back in. "also comes in handy when making tapes". Overall i have to give this player a 5, simply for the fact that it plays CD-RW's, & the fact that i've never had any trouble with it.

Strength:

Reliable budget carousel player.

Weakness:

No remote. No digital output.

As said in an earlier review, no carousel player will sound great, but I've found this to be a reliable player. If you don't have a remote, many universal remotes will come with the codes to run it. I've had 2 RCA remotes that did.

I use it exclusively for when I need multiple discs. My Sony DVP-S3000 DVD player sounds better, and my Pioneer Laserdisc player (CLD-D702) kills both as far as sound quality goes.

Digital outputs would have gone a long way to heklping this player out. I, for one, will never get another CD player without it, as newer amps all have the inputs, and it makes a difference.

Let's face it though, the CD player is almost dead. Going forward, I see them being phased out in favor of cheap DVD players, which handle both formats.

Bottom Line: A good player at a great price - but make sure you wouldn't rather save for a DVD carousel.

The Sony 215 Home CD Player is a great value for the money. I use CD's that skip in the car, but the Sony 215 plays EVERY CD that I feed it. It is not a high end CD player but it gets the job done.

this is a great cd player and i love it! It does a lot of fun stuff and it realy does never skip even on some of the worse cds. But sad to say i am going to have to agree with marc when you compare an average cd player with a dvd player of course the dvd will sound better, common sense! If you want a cd player this is the one to get

I've had this CD player for over a year and I thought it was ok until I compared it to the CD playing capabilities of my DVP-S500D dvd player. The dvd player is SO much more detailed and gives much cleaner, deeper bass. I can't listen to the 215 anymore.

I just buy this cd player, CDP-CE215, but it was an open box, so if any one of you know were I can get the control remote and the manual for it will be really helpful. Or were I can go and buy it. Thanks a lot, I apreciate it.
