Strength:
Picture and sound quality, aesthetics.
Weakness:
Cheap looking and feeling remote. A far cry from the machined remotes from other companies. For some, the size will be a drawback. The Voyager is an improved Data III that also plays DVDs. I use this unit primarily for home-theater use and have been very pleased with the picture and sound quality I have been getting from DVDs and laserdiscs. I feel that the Voyager has a cleaner, less grainy picture when reproducing laserdiscs than the Data III and a more three-dimensional look on DVDs than the Panasonic DVD player I owned before I got the Voyager. Sound quality from CDs is also good provided you don't compare it to a transport like the Spectral SDR-3000 which is without peer in my opinion. However, the SDR-3000 does not play DVDs or laserdiscs and is currently not compatible with 48 and 96 KHz recordings. That is a strength the Voyager has as it is compatible with the current crop of audio and video DVDs (though not SACD). However, the Voyager is a strong performer and has provided me with a great deal of pleasure. Similar Products Used: Theta Data III, Spectral SDR-3000. |
