Strength:
Good value for the dollar
Weakness:
Display I just purchased a used UCD100 that was for sale a long time. I purchased because of the HDCD capabilities and it demoed better than my Luxman. My son has an Arcam 7se that sounds sweeter, but it was also $700. Overall, I am happy with sound quality and manufacturing. Dito on display Similar Products Used: Arcam 7se, Quad, NAIM, Arcam FMJ |

Strength:
Unexpected ultra high Performance >> the a mount of buy-in money.
Weakness:
The Break-in time seems a little bit long, I have used more than half a year to burnt in this CD player and rewards are coming now. The player can perform very well as a top hi-end CD drive, It's life-like vocals with warm musical delightful feeling, enjoyably extra details from recordings ...is recognising that the whole is always seem greater than the sum of is all parts, may show you more dynamic and real lively in all case. I think I choose the right CD-drive and nearly 3 years it performance is very stable without any problem. Every day it bring me a wonderful and musical day. |

Strength:
Very Dynamic, clear and very solid build.
Weakness:
Very small display panel, you have to be really far sighted to see the numbers. This is by far the best cd player I ever hear of(own and not own). I cannot belive the quality of the componet, considering low selling price. Maybe that's the reason why the company went broke. I highly recommend any one to pick one up if they can get their hands on one. Similar Products Used: Various Denon models. |

Look Out ! had same problem as Jeff. The transport mechanism wouldn't give me back one of my favorite cd's. Thought, ok, no problem, just get in otuch with Ultech. Their customer service sucks!!!!!!!!! What good is the damn thing if it doesn't work. |

I have to agree about Ultech's Customer Service. They didn't bother responding to repeated e-mail requests for local dealers in my area. I think God was trying to tell me something by that. |

Following up on my earlier review and "Peter C.'s" review regarding failure to play certain discs. I have run about 20 of my discs through my UCD-100 that run the gamut of age and source. So, far I have had no problems playing any of them; unlike Peter C. Perhaps this is a problem with the samples he's getting. Alpine said they had had my particular unit in stock for a couple of weeks before they delivered it to me. If my unit develops a problem, I will post an additional follow-up. Otherwise, if you haven't heard from me, I haven't had the problem. I'm sticking with my 5-star opinion. I'll post 4 stars here just so that folks don't thinking I'm trying too hard to inflate the average with Peter C's 2-star review. |

The Ultech UCD-100 is an outstanding value for the money. It is solidly built, pleasing to look at and sounds great. My one complaint is the black on blue readout that I can only read up to about 3-4 feet away. With value for the money in mind, it's a very solid 5 star unit. |

I don't think there's any comparison between the Rega Planet and the UCD-100. The Ultech is far better sounding. The UCD-100, after it's burned in is a beautifully detailed and smooth sounding player. I just moved up from a Rotel RCD-955AX player and was amazed at the improvement. Great build quality too!! |

My UCD-100 sounded great right out of the box. I used to think that all cd players sounded the same but after listening to the Ultech I was mistaken. I listen to a wide variety of music...classical and country to pearl jam and metallica...it all sounds great. |
