played the cd1 with usher p307a-r1.5 comboPlayer cost AUD$800 on special. I found the build quality to be exceptional, finish remote, RCA terminals... Only the tray seemed flimsy though at this price most are. The sound wasn't on the same level as their pre/power. Treble seemed recessed while still providing sparkle, on the other hand bass was forward and atax ill defined. Swapping my floorstanders for my standmounts revealed a pleasingly balanced sound. Where this player really excels is in the mid range delivering a warmth to the tone that is comforting, and projects the vocals in front of a unusually large soundstage. Adequate amount of detail for the price, but you wouldn't write home about it. The cd1 would suit budget amps ht recievers upto $2000. It'll give those systems that little something, warmth, weight, soundstage, intimacy while looking good all the same

Strength:
Very nice detail and wide soundstaging. Looks and the remote is very cool on top of it.
Weakness:
None as of yet I'm very surprised at how good this actually sounds for an $1100 CDP. This could easily compete with players twice its price. It has very nice ability to extract detail and resolution from all genres of music. Its soundstage is nice and wide and sperates instruments very nicely.
