I own two Yamaha 765's, one with a NAD amp & dbx speakers, one with an Onkyoreceiver and Celestion speakers. The sound is smooth, clear, and precise. Obviously the NAD/dbx combo is superior to the Onkyo/Celestion. But for overall sound quality, construction, and ease of use, the Yamaha 765 is a bargain. Audiophiles need not make excuses when auditioning the 765. You can easily spend much, much more for high end and a negligible improvement.

If someone out there is giving away Rotel 990's for free, drop me a line and I'll gladly call back...If you can find one even at it's full retail price of $1,500, I'll take one!
All kidding aside, you'd be doing yourself a favor by listening to Yamahas new line of CD changers. It's flagship CDC-765 truly delivers on its claim of offering top-of-the-line performance at a moderate price. My point is simple enough...If you can afford $1000. and up for a CD player, do it, you obviously know what you're buying.

As a composer, producer/engineer, I work with audio equipment everyday and record various genres of music. I record live music, perform live music and reproduce that music on various mediums in a digital form. The '765 is very musical and natural. It's imaging, stage placement and acoustic detail a much needed improvement to the models they've replaced.

Although the '765 retails at $350.- I found several audio web-sites offering the unit for as low as $299. I ended up paying retail, paying tax and bringing it home myself. Besides, I like the trade-up policy my local hi-fi dealer offers, and who knows, if Rotel ever comes out with the replacement for the 990, I may just buy one!

A smooth sounding player, not too bright. It doesn't have the detail that 20 bit players deliver but it costs twice as less. The only difference between the 765 and the 755 is the Probit system which converts the signal to 20 bit before processing it through the DAC. I've done the comparison and the 765 sounded slightly more detailed. If you're buying a CD changer for the first time, give this a try. 4 star for sound/value.

I bought a Yamaha CDC-765 about 6 months ago and am thoroughly impressed. I must say that this is best sounding multi-disc CD player I have reviewed. Good features and ease of use shine through. Not a bad price also; about $300 - $350.
I have it linked to an Onkyo TSX-747 with an AudioQuest Topaz interconnect. The sound is very neutral and strong. Some of the other units I have listened to were very bright sounding and a little harsh in the high frequencies. This unit plays smoothly and quietly.

Connect it to a quality receiver with a good set of cables and you will be delighted.

I bought this cd-changer a year ago, and I am fully satisfied with the great sound quality it delivers. I combined it with a Yamaha RX-595 receiver and since that my old Polk Audio Monitor 4.6s gained new life. The crisp, clear and so detailed sound of this cd-changer is difficult to match and since I use this equipment for music purpose only, I have had it running almost 24 hours a day every other day for the past year and have never had a problem. It is an excellent cd-changer for the money. I strongly recommend it.

i recently purchased the cdc 765 i think this is a great player for the price 299can. this player replaces my disc man immeadetly i heard a diffenece in the bass and the clearty on my cds. i was orginally going to purchase the denon 360 but it was missing a digital out. Before purchasing this player i got the sales man to play three cd players in random. i only heard adiffrence with the denon 560 but this player cost almost a 1000$can. the denon 360 and 260 also sounded far too bright for my liking. all in all this player is a excellent bargain and it sounds great just like any other yamaha player, but i am only giving it four stars because of teh lack of a power button on the remote

I just purchased the CDC-765 and I found it a very good unit. The unit has a optical output which is good of recording on my minidisc recorder. I was getting a bit with my single CD-PLAYER which was also a Yamaha, This was because I had to change CD every time I want a new disc music on the MINI-DISC Recorder. I compared the sound with this unit and my Single CD-player and the CDC-765 had a greater depth in sound which gave a great advantage to recorded CD's, it brought my CD-R discs back to life. The change over of discs was also pretty quick. Another good advantage with this unit was the filing system. I don't have to program my CD's again even though I put it on another position or take the disc in and out the progranm stayed the same, even when I turned it of and on. The disc Exchange was also another great feature I liked. I didn't have to stop the player to put in another disk to replace another disc that was on the tray not playing. This is a great changer. I would recommend this player to anyone.

At this price, the CD player is unbeatable in its specs and performance. I've owned this player since Feb 98 and am still in love with its sound. The lower Yamaha models did not impress me over the Denon or audiophile cd players. But the 765 could surely keep up and surpass many of them. It should be coupled with a very clean clear amp to appreciate its performance in order to temper its warm sound.

I bought this CD player at HI FI House and was very impressed with the performance and details in its sound. The specs. talk by themselves.
Bought it for $149.00 (DEMO)

I'll give it 5 speakers for its excellent performance.
