Features, Recording quality, Basically new for $50!

A bit complicated at the beginning. If you buy it, dont set it up until you can spend 1/2 a day fooling around with it and learning all of it's features. In other words, if you just had a crappy day or the wife has been nagging you to do some lame task dont mess with it, it will piss you off.

Here's the deal. I had been searching for a good reliable cd recorder for sometime. I purchased a Philips cdr 775 on e-bay for $25 and it worked but seemed a bit cheap and a little difficult to operate. So I sold it and continued my mission to find a good recorder. Suddenly I came across some nice guy in L.A. that was selling his Yamaha cdr-hdd1000 for $50! YES!! $50! He purchased it new for $1000 and only used it for 1 day to transfer some vinyl to cd then stored it away. He told me he felt that the unit was now "old technology" and he thought $50 was reasonable, who was I to argue? So, I took the recorder home along with the remote, manual and 9 blank discs that he had left over from a 10 pack purchased to burn his vinyl. I connected and was a little overwhelmed with all the features so I kind of just left it alone for a few months. One day I decided I would really get in to it and find out what it couild do, My god! this thing rocks!! I am a D.J. and wanted something to record my work, well I was really impressed on how I could record my work onto the hard drive listen to it then if desired transfer it to cd!! Awsome!! I have to give this recorder 2 thumbs up, I am so happy!!

When using as a jukebox finding your favorite song is kind of a pain

I was extremely hesitant on this purchase. I was hearing that the repairs on this unit was extremely high. One retailer looked up the repair history for me in a year they sold 47 units 22 of the 47 came back in for repair. I kept looking on the internet all I was reading was about the repair and those who owned the Yamaha HD CDR-1000 loved theirs. When I heard what just how high the repairs were I decided to purchase a Sony Compact Disc Record the model I chose had five disc player on one side and the cd recorder on the other. Immediately I realized the Sony was not for me, it was noisy and froze several times when I tried to record with it. I decided to return it where I purchased it and look for the Yamaha CDR-HD1000. I knew only one retail chain in the San Diego Area carried the Yamaha and it was the Good Guys. After hitting my third Good Guys I found my recorder but they only had one model left and Good Guys was discontinuing it for the bigger Yamaha Hard Drive Record that sold for 799.99. So I bought the display with a five year extended warranty. The Yamaha CDR-HD1000 is the most awesome piece of equipment I own. I love it. I am a collector of old vinyl records. I started collecting albums in 1969; as a child my allowance was one album a week. What I’ve been doing is placing my vinyl on to compact discs. Having the Yamaha CDR-HD1000 has just made my process a whole lot easier. I can load 999 songs on the hard drive then copy on to cd-rw then I take the cd-rw to my computer and make any necessary corrections like removing the pops that you hear from a vinyl. The sound quality that you get from the Yamaha CDR-HD1000 is fantastic; no words can describe the results. The Yamaha CDR-HD1000 is easy to use, one touch recording, and you can even copy a disc but you can’t copy a copy. Some of the disadvantage regarding the unit is the fact that it can’t be hooked up to the computer like the TDK hard disc record can or if you use the hard drive as a Jukebox or a multi disc player finding your favorite song is hard nor will it compress the music and it only records as a wav file not an mp3 file. But if you are a true audio lover not a tech freak you will not mind that the CDR-HD1000 only records the song as a wav file. This is my seventh piece of Yamaha equipment; am I in love with Yamaha in word yes but when you want quality and you what to hear music the way music was extended the Yamaha is one of the few companies I actually recommended and to hear music right you need a good receiver and I’m not talking about a surround sound receiver but a old fashion two channel receiver with the lowest possible THD. Any one looking to purchase a compact disc recorder for their home stereo system buy the Yamaha CDR-HD1000 it worth the price.
