With all the 24 bit DACs coming out, this unit is a bit overpriced. To be blunt, the sound is dynamic but warm. I would even call it boomy. It works great with jazz but doesn't have enough high end detail to satisfy rock fans. I think this DAC is meant to be used with the Dragon Pro jitter unit. Using it with AA DTIPro32 gives great improvement on soundstage and imaging. Overall I think it's an average performer. One more thing, if you like using thick fat RCA connectors, forget about using them. |

I have owned a Camelot Arthur v3.0 MKII for a year now, using it in a variety of systems. I am using an Audio Alchemy DDS-Pro Stable Platter transport with the DTI Pro-32 with Dusty's latest chip(AD3)and power station 3, with Camelot I2s silver cables and Synergistic power cords. Cabling has been Cardas Cross, Tara Lab Master MKII, and Harmonic Tech. Pro-Silway MKII. This DAC is definately better than the Adcom GDA700 which I owned for a while, having a more neutral sound, not quite as rich, with tighter bass. The speakers I have used have been the Thiel 3.6, and Monitor Audio PCM 702, B&W 804 and 803, and the Camelot works pretty well with all.I personally think it is ever so slightly lean, with good soundstage. I have been waiting for Camelot to come out with thier DC power supply for over a year now, and finally decided I could no longer wait so I sent the Arthur out to Channel Islands Audio (Dusty Vauter, formerly of Audio Alchemy) for modifications. Put about $325 in parts, including a Audio Alcheny Power Station 2 for DC power. The unit was burnt in at the shop, and sounds great. Has bigger soundstage, more midrange bloom, with greater transparency. This is all using the I2s of course! Coax degrades compared to the I2s. I purchased a Camelot Uther MKII which is top of thier line and will post the differences, in case any body cares! ( -: I would give it 4 stars with the mods and DC power supply, and 3 1/2 stars stock when used with I2s. |
