My Numerik failed ½ year ago, so after 4-5 month (!) of stubborn investigation by my incredibly skilled and hardworking local repairman ( : a vanishing tribe unfortunately) the good news arrived: He finally had found the fault and replaced the dead IC for the powersupply and it all worked. A was a weird fault he had never experienced before throghout 40-45 years of practise.

J'ai acheté d' occasion ,pour 1000$ un ensemble Karik et Numerik . C'est vraiment pas écoutable. un Teac Cd1260 de 200$ neuf sonne mieux que cette merde de 8000$. Heureusement , on m'a remboursé. Mon Micomega Solo le plantait facilement .Le systême associé était un Linn Kairn, Linn Lk100 et Magneplanar 1.5 . |

My journey through Linn CD Players... The CD12 came out, which at the time had an eye watering price tag. Then the Ikemi came out at a more 'reasonable' price, and it was claimed to be better than a Karik and Numerik combo... Read on... Subsequently, for my main system I ended up with the CD12 in the end, and yes it is very good indeed and better than the Karik and Numerik (although at this level we're starting to split hairs). I subsequently had the opportunity to acquire a fully Activ Kaber system, with Karik III, Numerik, Kairn + 3 LK100's. This was for my second listening room, where I had the Ikemi squeezed out of my main system by the CD12. This gave me an opportunity to compare all these machines at my leisure. Despite being advised that the Ikemi is 'better' than a Karik and Numerik, in my opinion that is just not true at all. I sold the Ikemi, and stick with the CD12 for my main Keltik system and a Karik and Numerik for the second system. This is based on the quality of sound reproduction, musicality, enjoyment, and being able to listen to music without any signs of fatigue on my part. |

First of all, this is 2012 in case we have forgotten. And here I am, writing a review about a product of yesteryear- 1995 namely. That in itself is a wonder.

Strength:
Solid build and it plays MUSIC.
Weakness:
Linn has no more spares for this player, hope it doesn't break down ........ Great Player!! Use in an active system, 2x LK140, Keilidhs. Very much detail, heard things on my CD's I never heard before. Haven't compared it with an Ikemi though. Similar Products Used: Marantz CD72 MKII |

Strength:
everything except last octave of bass
Weakness:
nothing i ve found, for the money comes close This is a bargin like no other at the moment. £1000 buys you a £3000 player now, and this combo produces a sound better than anything i've heard so far especially for the small outlay. It's buils quality reeks of class, a solid all metal transport, not flimsy plastic, a solid remote, and don't believe all you read, this player can actually sound better in other systems, all Linn sounds cold and thin at times, if this player is used with a smooth solid state or class a or tubes it will produce a seductive sound like the sweetest siren, hollographic imaging, depth and detail, ok bass not so heavy handed a some but what is there is utterly 100%, I noticed one hell of a difference when i purchased a real pair of speakers, the Zingali Overtures 3s must bring out the Branston. Similar Products Used: Linn, Naim, Marantz, John Shearne, Cyrus, proac, zingali, nordost red dawn. |

Strength:
Outstanding build quality, very musical, not clinical, truely a work engineering art!
Weakness:
None to speak of to date! If you want music, the kind you always hoped for; a mix of the best of digital and analogue combined in one unbeleivable little balck box...look no further. The Karik is all that and then some! You always hear people talking about the Vinyl sound; well the vinyl sound misses on a few of the hoped for hits in audio as does Digital. However, the Karik, especially coupled with the numerik D/A converter is a masterpiece! It is the sound you've been listening for! Give it a spin, sit back and really be enterained with the warmth of emtion and expression you should hear from your software library...go ahead...you'll have to buy it! Strength:
Clean, detailed, warm, natural
Weakness:
$6,000 Great sound, all the typical audiophile retoric, on the bright side of the road. Awful lot of money though, should be gold plated. The sound is like gold, but you can't take that to the bank when you need it. So, really great sound, reaaallly expensive. Is it worth it? If you love audio, yes, if you want to keep your wife, no...(but really, do you actually need her anyway!) :) Similar Products Used: Ikemi, Genki, Naim. |

Strength:
In most relationships, you grow board, no matter how good looking the object of your desire may be; not here....
Weakness:
None It makes music exactly the way it was always intended, with nothing more and nothing less, just beautiful music. Forget all the audio hype, listen to it, if you are lucky enough to find one. Just listen and you will be convinced, listen to the music, the music, not the stuff reproducing it, just forget brand names. Go in blind and do blind tests, suprise yourself. Even try it against Linn's own new kid on the block, blind. You will come away taking the Karik/numerik overall. forget the hype, listen to the music, what it tells your ears. After that, in audio, there is nothing more to say. Similar Products Used: Nothing comes close. Period. |
