The AKG K-240DF are extremely accurate, clear and detailed. Perfect for all kinds of music, especially when one wants to be able to distinguish every single detail of each instrument. I also use them in combination with a Pioneer DV-717 DVD player and the Sennheiser Lucas and they create a very convincing surround sound. Since they are rated at 600 ohms they need some extra power and therefore a headphone amplifier can be useful. They are also very comfortable and in contrast to most other headphones these days they are build to last for many years. Excellent performance, design and durability. |

Strength:
True to the original sound source, excellent natural bass and highs and an open spacious sound highly recommended for professional studio monitoring.
Weakness:
None Most everyday listeners that reviewed these professional headphones fail to realize that these headphones are for professional recording use and are made to reproduce natural sound, so in all these headphones are excellent because of the natural sound, you get true to the original sound without the added bass or highs, so what you are hearing is the true sound, so I give these headphones a 5 star. |

none I bought these a few years before I graduated high school (1981). So these are pretty old. I got them based upon the recommendation of a friend's dad who was an engineer and extremely thorough audio enthusiast. Similar Products Used: many others, especially other akg units |

Strength:
accurate response
Weakness:
bass output(if your into exaggerated bass) These headphones have an accurate sound to them, bad thing if you like loud pounding bass in your ear, good thing if you like to hear the original recording as it was meant to be. You will really hear the difference from one recording to the next. Even though they look bulky, they feel light and comfortable.A true classic......enough said. |

Weakness:
You're kidding, right? I purchased my AKG K240 headphones in 1984. There was no letter designation at that time, but mine resemble the "M" version in appearence. |

I purchased these headphones a year ago and I highly recommend these to anyone looking for a pair of cans that are very detailed and accurate. You can concentrate on each instrument and it'll sound very clear and uncolored. A few flaws would be that it lacks somewhat in the deep bass spectrum and that it takes more power to drive them because they are rated at 600 ohms. They do tend to not be able to take too much power or they will distort a bit, but I guess by then, the music's too loud already and it's kind of a check to make sure you don't loss your hearing. The sound is very natural and transparent. It is versatile for most types of music except maybe rap with a lot of bass. They are also comfortable too with its large earpiece that goes around the ears instead of on them. For under $100, they are very good for the price. |

My original K240 headphones started leaking black soot from aging acoustic material in the cups. Amazingly, after 23 years, I found that AKG still makes the same model and I bought a new pair. There are slight differences, for example a thin foam pad over the driver grill which seems to attenuate the high frequencies a bit, but otherwise the same very natural, detailed sound that the original had. They are just as comfortable too. |

While the 240-M version is the "studio standard", the 240-DF version is far and away my choice. The M version is mid-rangey, even honky. The Df version mostly eliminates this and sounds LOTS like a great pair of speakers in a good room. I suggest you pay the extra $20-30 for the DFs. |

Not very Musical I didn't care for them when listening to my music. I felt they lack something in the mid range, and the highs sound horrible. They are now used on my computer for video games. Similar Products Used: Grado |
