Before these AKG K601 headphones i was using around 10 years old Philips Monitor Reference headphones which sounded great but they are uncomparable to this fine model of AKG.

Strength:
Exceptional sound quality, crisp & clear sound, great for a wide range of types/styles of music and a wide variety of equipment. Very clear e precise bass, PERFECT mids and sweet treeble.
Weakness:
No for heavy overpowered bass-loving hip-hop/rap/funk/electronica Just an amazing headphone. The sound is just lush, 3-dimentional, and totally invoving without being fatiguing. I hear the air around instruments and they throw up an incredibly wide and deep soundstage.

Strength:
Overall sound quality. Build quality. Fairly light and cool. Long term comfort. Good price for performance.
Weakness:
Rather large and thus not portable. Probably not as rugged as the classic AKG studio cans in order to reduce weight. Will probably have to mail order them unless in a metropolitan area. My K601 has replaced my Grado SR60 and SR200 cans. Sound is better across the board with the K601. Comfort is much improved for extended listening sessions. Build quality seems higher with AKG cans in general compared to Grado and Sennheiser. My past gripe with AKG studio cans was their inefficiency. At last AKG is building reference cans that are easy to drive.
