Strength:

Complete isolation, high sensitivity, strong bass, well balanced sound.

Weakness:

None really, ears get a little warm.

I have owned a pair of HD570s for about a year and have been quite happy with the cans. They are pretty flat headphones, meaning they do a great job of reproducing music in it's intended form, without adding or subtracting certain frequencies. I was looking for a pair of headphones to replace the 570s because I required closed headphones for my noisy dorm and also a pair that what work with my portable mp3 player. Unfortunately the 570s had a low sensitivity and my portable did not have the power to drive them. I found everything I was looking for in the 25sp's. The bass response is great for a pair of impounds, the 570s had bass but not impact. I think this is due to the closed design. Sound isolation is awesome, when you get some muxic flowing through these puppies the rest of the world just shuts up. Midrange and trebble seem well balanced, if not quite as bright as the 570's and 580s. They don't have as much as the typical "airy" sound of the open phones but they were never intended to. One problem I had was the ear pieces on my glasses getting pinched between my ears and my head by the phones, making my ears rather uncomfortable after about 2 hours. I figured out a great way to aleviate the problem is to simply place your ear pieces on top of the pads instead of your ear. It's only about a centimeter taller and doesn't look silly at all. The headphones are great with my portable and look quite stylish walking around. All in all probably the best closed headphones for under 100 dollers.

Strength:

Total isolation, very nice detail, lightweight.

Weakness:

Uncomfortable for long duration, bass can be heavy.

I love these headphones because of the total isolation. Great for dj's or critical listening. The response is pretty good. I like the detail, but sometimes the bass can be a little heavy. For around 100 retail, I think they're a steal, since you can buy replacement parts and keep your investment for years.

Strength:

Dynamic/exiting sound, with a smooth bass response

Weakness:

Price, at first listen can sound slight closed.

I was looking for a compact set of closed headphones, with little noise leakage, good isolation and sound quality. The hp25sp where perfect, I highly recommend them, they have a sound which you can listen to for hours.

I saw the HD25 and was impressed, but the price quickly put me off them(half a grand!!). I did a A/B comparison of the 25/25sp in the shop, yes the hd25 where better but not good enough to justify the extra 40% cost, plus the HD25 where very uncomfortable.

The 25sp's have a very energetic sound, with a deep but agile bass, which does not overpower the rest of the music. The music is reproduced with authority and accuracy, with vocals sounding well defined. No need for tone controls here.

They are very light and compact and have a professional fell to them. At high volumes they keep their cool with the sound becoming to loud before the distortion kicks in.

But, the 25sp don't sound as open and detailed as the other open back headphones from Sennheiser, they have a slight closed-in sound, this is inedivedable due to their closed design and their small size. On the other hand they sound 10x better than most other brands, in the closed headphone market.

Strength:

Great sound

Weakness:

comfort

I love the sound quality of these headphones - they work very well across a wide range of music types, even computer games. And I like the fact that they're closed, nobody else has to listen to my music.

HOWEVER, I can't wear them for more than an hour or so per day. They sit right on the ears themselves, and after a little while, the physical pressure they put on the ears really hurts. Perhaps I just have sensitive ears. The HD25SP I tried didn't have such great sound, but exherted far less pressure, no discomfort at all.

Try these, if they don't hurt, you'll love them!

Strength:

Audio quality, isolation, ruggedness, spare bits available

Weakness:

long term comfort... dangerously loud, expensive

I first used these headphones for pro' sound recording work and grew to like them for their accuracy... Got a pair for home (70R version)and they work in a hi-fi setting too. I also use them on thr train/bus with my Sharp MD player and again they are near perfect (they keep the noise out, the music in and go loud with the MD).
They are very nuetral and serve as a good travelling reference when using other peoples studios... Love them

Strength:

Detail. Strong bass. Go terrificly loud and clear with perfect balance. Lightweight headset.

Weakness:

Can be too revealing for home listening.

These phones are simply in a different class to the technics & sony's.

I went to my hi-fi shop to test out and choose between the sony and technics. I expected with their big diaphragms and rave reviews, the sony's and technics would deliver big bass ideal for home listening and 'home/party' DJing. The salesman advised me to listen to the Sennheisers as well, saying they were quality headphones whereas the others sold on a 'fashion' basis.

He was absolutely right. I was compeletely shocked ! technics and sony sounded weak, tinny and shut-in - i was disappointed with the sound completely. I didnt expect much from the Sennheisers (lighter, small diaphragms), but wow ! Bass was MASSIVELY deeper, tighter and slamming. Treble suddenly sparkled and the balance was perfect - real sound in your head.

No idea how other headphones sell, these sennheiser's are in a different class of quality, an A/B comparison will instantly reveal this.

Owning them has since been a pleasure. They are VERY revealing as youd expect, bass-light or harsh recordings dont fair that well at high volumes as a result. A high quality headphone output and ancillary equipment are therefore needed to cope.

These compact and rugged headphones are intended for studio monitoring, but I have found them to be perfect for use on the road with my portable MD player. They are quite sensitive, giving plenty of volume from low-powered portable devices, and their closed-back design provides good isolation from external noise. The fit is snug (but comfortable), and the split headband keeps them firmly in place. The sound is very clean, distortion is low, and the bass is excellent. Overall, I think that these headphones are a great choice for the wired traveler.
