Strength:

What's wrong with this picture? Great cans for only $65

Weakness:

None that I can find

I read about the deal here and had to see for myself. I was considering either Senn 600's or Grado GS-1's but this deal was too good to miss out on.

Worst cast I thought, I would have a spare pair of headphones for the audio system on my boat.

Wow! Was I ever surprised! These cans smoke!!! The clarity and detail can only be described as AMAZING. The music is breathtaking. To get these as "refurbished for only $65??? It is the steal of the century.

Lightweight, comfortable and sound so rich that you ought to gain ten pounds just for listening to them for an hour.

Get a pair of these now - you will be glad you did.

Weakness:

Fund none yet

Have listened to classical, jazz, new age, rock, vocals, instrumentals, pop, techno, dance and rap wth these headphones. The sound is phenominal. The best headphones I have ever heard.

Better than Sennheiser 580's, Grado RS-1's and various Koss and Sony phones owned by other guys in my dorm.

At $65, these are an abosolute value for anyone - whether you are on a budget or have a lot of money to spend.

Price, Light Weight, Sound Quality, like new condition

Cord too long

Powered by my Sony Walkman CD player just fine. Couldn't tell they were refurbished - look and smell brand new

Great sound at a value price on a set of headphones that (unlike Grado) you can wear comfortably

Strength:

Great treble, well defined, clear sound. Very light/comfortable

Weakness:

bass isn't very dynamic, not good for car listening with other people present

My first impression when I opened the package was that they really didn't look like in the picture. The silver finish wasn't nearly as sleek as it looked in the picture, and overall, the design of the plastic made it seem a little on the flimsy side.

When I first got to listening to them I hooked them up to my SB Live and fired up winamp. I was surprised at how much I had to adjust the EQ settings, cranking up the treble and greatly decreasing the bass from my previous settings to achieve the desired sound. After some tweaking I got the sound I wanted, and I'm happy with it. I've heard a lot about the power of these can being on the weak side, but I can easily get enough volume pumping out of my soundcard (and I usually have my music on very loud). On my older model AIWA CD player I had to crank the volume all the way up to get the level of sound I wanted, but it was there, so the signal efficiency of these cans won't be a problem for me.

The detachable headphone cable and the fact that it only connects on one side of the phones is convenient and makes for easier storage. They're very comfortable to wear, and my only complaint would be that the length adjustors don't extend quite far enough at their furthest setting to fit over my giant Irish head, though i doubt this will prove to be a problem for anyone else, and it's only an 1/8 of an inch short or so. The sound is also pretty loud on the outside as well, so listening around other people could be a problem

Overall I really like the way these sound, especially compared to the cheap phones I was using before. I can hear a lot of sounds that I couldn't before like the sound of a pick striking the guitar string before the string begins to vibrate, and just little details like that. I'd recommend them simply because they're the best pair of headphones I've ever owned, but I can't really give them more than 4 stars since I don't have anything in an equivalent price range to compare them with

Strength:

crystal clear highs, full bodied, rather tight bass

Weakness:

They just plain don't look like they would cost $100.

These phones are great. The sound reproduction is very clear. Anything live sounds excellent. My full digital CD's sound wonderfulThe highs are magnificent while the bass remains deep and pure sounding. These are very comfortable headphones. The pads are ample but firm. I don't think you can get a better pair for less. Look no further; buy these phones.

Strength:

Open-aire design allows greater overall clarity, supraural design that’s much more comfortable than similar designs, single-sided detachable cord, great looks

Weakness:

Open-aire design allows more external sound leakage than closed designs, sensitivity much lower than the claimed 106dB

I have received the Sennheiser HD 495 Silver headphones today from Headroom, and I was very impressed with them. They are far better than the throwaway freebies most portable CD player manufacturers supply with their units. The silver housing looks very cool! There are only two problems with this model. First, the open-aire design--while delivering great accuracy and clarity--allows some sounds to leak into the atmosphere (common problem with all open-aire designs). Second, their sensitivity is much lower than the claimed 106dB; compared with my Sony MDR-V6 headphones (which deliver a sensitivity rating of 106dB/mW), these Sennheisers actually deliver a sensitivity rating of only 91dB/mW! (The package says 106dB/V; if I had rated my MDR-V6’s on the same voltage-sensitivity scale, they would rate 118dB/V!) Other than those faults they are excellent performers for the price. The bass is deep and smooth without being boomy, the mids and highs are detailed without being harsh. And they are much more comfortable than any other supraural-type headphones I have ever tried! I had considered the Grado SR-60 headphones prior to deciding on these, but I heard that the Grados require a long break-in time period to perform their best and may be uncomfortable the first few times you wear them.
I also looked at the step-down Sennheiser HD 490 Live headphones, but heard many mediocre to poor reviews on them--their response is stilted towards the bass.

The list price of the HD495 is $119.95--only $20 more than the HD490.

Overall, outstanding for the price.

Strength:

Sounds good, very comfy.

Weakness:

Don't quite know

I don't know much about headphones. All the experience Ive had are cheap units. But once I bought these headphones and Ive put them on, I fell in love. I think they are extremely comfortable and feel oh so good. They also sound very good. Most reviews say they are a major step up from the 490 and I believe so based on the negative reviews of said product. Id recommend these for anyone not looking for an expensive pair, but one that still feel and sound good.

Strength:

soundstage, fidelity, comfortable

These headphones have a very open airy sound to them. Either you will like this (the Sennheiser sound) or you will prefer the tighter, thumping sound of Grados.

Grados have more bass pure and simple but listening to the bass heavy Grados is like listening to a stereo with the loudness button turned on - very fatiguing. Also the Grado design is very uncomfortable to wear for more than 30 minutes at a time.

The Sennheisers look and feel wonderful.

If you prefer the lighter, more open, airy more musical sound then you will like the Sennheiser 495. If you like pounding boomy bass then you will prefer the Grado 325's.
Do be aware that you cannot listen to the Grado 325's for more than 30 to 40 minutes before your ears will hurt.

Strength:

The look sharp. They feel good. The sound great.

Weakness:

It took 5 days to get them by mail. Wish I had them sooner.

I read about the deal on the refurbished Seenheiser 495's here and I ordered a pair.

They sound great! They bring my CD collection to new heights of realism. Live recordings sound like I am there in the front row. Much, much better tthan the cheap headphones that came with my portable CD player.

Good bass, good midrange, good treble - a well balanced headphone with great sound. Long cord required me to get some twist ties tto keep from tripping over it - other than that no problems. These headphones seem to get better sounding each day I listen to them.

I can't say how these compare with the really expensive headphones like the Sennheiser 600 and Grado RS-1's but to get these normally $165 headphones for $65 is a real deal and they sound great and feel comfortable on my head.

I had also thought about ordering the Grado 80's since they had some good reviews here especially for rock music which I like to listen to, but the reviews said they were not very comfortable and besides the refurbiished Sennheiser 495's were $35 cheaper.

I am very happy with this purchase as I am a student on a limited budget. The headphones sound great for all types of music and I hardly know I am wearing them because they are so light and comfortable.

Strength:

great sound, stylish, can hardly tell you are wearing them they are so light

Weakness:

The cord is too damn long. I had to shorten it by folding and securing with a couple twist ties

I was looking for a pair of good headphones and noticed that these were the highest rated headphones of any with 10 or more reviews here on the Board. I ordered the refurbished headphones from sennheiser.com and waited 4 days for them to arrive (paid by credit card to expedite transaction).

I was not disappointed. The sounded great right from the get-go. Then I came in for another surprise. As noted by other posters here, these headphones sound EVEN BETTER after about 40 or 50 hours of break in time. I was not prepared for this additional improvement. They sound great.
Full range of music, high highs and lows as deep as any regular speaker I have listened to (though not as deep as a large subwoofer).

Buy these headphones.
