Strength:

Price comfort and clarity

Weakness:

build quality, design

Overall I am quite satisfied with these Cans. I am not overly wowed by their performance--nor am I disappointed. They provide clarity and range that I would expect in a decent pair of headphones coupled with a level of comfort that is much appreciated.

However, the pressure that these apply is rather strong. I can't wear them for too long without becoming annoyed with the pressure applied around my ears.

On the other hand, the ear-cups themselves are very well padded, and soft. They do not feel uncomfortable against my skin.

The build quality is certainly not the highest. The light-weight plastic is soft and does not inspire confidence. I picked these up on clearance for $67.00 US. At that price I can't complain too much. 3.5 stars overall for adequate sound but poor build quailty. I still prefer listening on my speakers (Mission 774...see my review for more info).

Wow, is all I can say. I have had these headphones for about 3 months now, and I have been impressed the whole time. I had them hooked up to a Denon bookshelf system (D-60) and they sounded great. I just got a Yamaha R-V902 and OMG THEY SOUND AWESOME! Needless to say, the headphone amp in the Denon was holding them back. Crisp highs, accurate bass, and soothing mids. I love them. I got them for $100 at audioadvisor.com. They are ridiculously comfortable, and fairly stylish. I compared them to Grado SR-60's, unbelievably better (although the list is way higher too). I would recommend them to anyone looking to spend under $150. Check headphone.com for more reviews, and go to AudioAdvisor.com to buy. Hope you enjoy too.

I disagree with posting below...if the gentleman isn't careful, he's going to wind up with tinnitus, or hearing loss...0.2watts is enough to drive these, ormost other headphones to dangerous levels. I just picked up a pair of these @ a
clearance price of $99.95 from Audio Advisor for my wife, and they're a lot better than I expected. They're very close in quality to the sound of my beloved
580's. A bit crisper, brighter, more detailed...some would prefer these to the 580's because of this. If the 580's are like a tube amp, than these have more of
the qualities one traditionally associates with solid state. Not quite as comfortable as the 580's, but still good. I could happily live with either one.

Strength:

Very accurate sound.
Bright and spacious sound
Not good for cheap rock CD'S such as the WHO.

Weakness:

short cord

With these cans, I am using a Jolida tube CD Player,
and the original tubes aren't even broken in yet.
The Sony MDR V-6 is a very good headphone, and will play
louder than the Sennheiser 545, but not as accurate in
the sense of uncolored or spacial sound.
To listen in a car with head pounding Bass is OK, but there
is no definition to the sound when there is only Bass.
To the fellow who responded on 2/27/99, I think he wouldn't
accurate sound if it slapped him in the face.

Hello Mr. No name (Just below),

I guess that's why they list it as open-air concept!! Or didn't you know that? You would probably want to look for a SEALED pair the next time around...duh.

to the person who posted on 12/5/98:

if you think sennheisers are worse than sonys, think again. high power handling and loud bass don't necessarily make a good pair of headphones. i had a pair of "cheap" sony mdr-v600's, and now i'm glad i got rid of them. sure, they may handle more bass power than the sennheiser hd 545's, but where are the mids? and time and time again two words spring to mind when i had listened to those sonys. flat and lifeless. the sennheiser hd 545's, on the other hand, are a good set of mid-level open-air headphones that should be handled only by a true audio enthusiast! and yes, i used to own a pair of sony mdr-v900's and returned them to the store where i had purchased them from; they are better than the v600's, but not worth their $169.99 price.

going to the sennheiser hd 545's, they are less bright than their successor, the hd 570. but in my judgment, neither hd 545 nor hd 570 is better than the other. they are both good cans that should be handled only by those who appreciate music, not to those who like head-banging bass.

so, 12/5/98-what's-his-face, go back to your boomy, muddy, harsh, closed sonys, and let the rest of us rest in open-air peace.

Strength:

Superb sound quality, very comfortable, detachable headphone cord from headset, light.

Weakness:

Open-air headset.. very strong weakness, only worthful weakness. Turn the volume very low and still people can hear you listen to your music!!! The head set looks cheap but it sounds wonderful. Only a true audiophile will recognize what Sennheiser is, other people will think it's a piece you bought from Radio Shack.

If you want very crisp sound quality at a great low price, then these headphones are excellent. They sound truely wonderful. I spent a couple of hours shopping around for headphones, brought my own music and everything! The Sennheiser 545's sounded the best. Everything seems perfectly balanced.

However, the open-air type headphones restricts where you can use the set. If you want to use it at work, forget it, everyone and anyone will hear every little beap coming out of these babies. That's why I returned them. I use headphones in the computer lab all the time and must be quiet to people around me, so I couldn't use the Sennheiser. Otherwise I would have kept them.
