Strength:

Seperation is amazeing. Very comfortable.

Weakness:

A bit costly.

The HD590 sound incredable. I live in a apartment with paper walls and I listen with headphones a lot for hours at a time. They are very comfy on the ears.

Strength:

they sound good

Weakness:

Not very robust construction. From what i can see, no parts are replacable.

I like these headphones. But they do leak a LOT of sound which can be heard in other rooms.

Strength:

airy, rich, detailed and determined sound, impressive soundscape and unbelievably linear frequency response. They are very confortable, you can easily forget that you are wearing them when the music stops

Weakness:

None considering the price but the fact that Sennheiser HD 600 and Orpheus sound better remains

I started looking for a new set of headphonees because my old aiwa x815's broke. I am not very fond of listening music through headphones and I still strongly prefer loudspeakers. So headphones for me are just an alternative and I had no serious intention of spending more than $100 for a set of headphones (the old aiwa x815 were around $50). I was aware of Sennheiser being famous for their true-to-reality phylosophy and their reputation of being one of the world's best producers of headphones. At first the HD 270 costing $100 seemed like a perfect choice for me and I bought them immediately. And that's where the story begins. I didn't expect much of them plugging in for the first time but what I heard was a total dissappointment. I just let them plugged and burning in for whole weekend and then come back listening full of expectations. There was a significant overall improvement of sound but still far from a sound that I could enjoy. Firstly bass was boomy and slow. It just might have been a bad coincidence because the first record for testing was Mark Knopfler's Sailing to Philadelphia and we all know that Dire Straits' and Knopfler's recordings are among the better in rock-pop but have a bit overinflated bass and only better hi-fi systems reveal it. However the sound was something as if you took a 400W subwoofer and listen to the recording without mid- and high range speakers. The opening hammond organ on 'baloney again' was so dull that it probably wouldn't be audiable to me at all if I didn't know it is there. I went on listening to some more 'airy' material such as Telarc's classical records but even that didn't bring much improvement so th next thing i did was packing the 270's up and brought it back to the store. Naturally I demanded to be able to listen to whatever I would replace them with. One thing I realised then was that the old x815's were really, I mean really good for closed headphones especially considering the price. I spent about two hours at the store listening to Sennheiser HD 265, HD 500, HD 535, HD 565, HD 580, HD 590 and HD 600. I found 265's sound very much similar to 270's so they were out of question. All of the above mentioned sets are open design and I realised they produce much more natural and balanced sound. The 500s for the similar price to the 270s are much better but still too s

Strength:

Rich, high quality sound, adjustable fit, comfortable padding, light as a feather (well, nearly), removable cord, awesome value.

Weakness:

None (but do remember to burn in).

I just thought I'd chime in with my support for the HD-590s; the sound quality is just leaps and bounds beyond nearly all other headphones. In the past I've used primarily closed-type headphones, so I expected the HD-590 "Open-Aire" system to be a different experience. Much to my surprise, though, they fit as comfortably as I ever imagined possible -- and, while sound does emanate to a small area around the wearer, only the highest (no mediums or lows) sounds were at all audible past a few feet. The removable cord is a nice boon, as my headphone cords often seem to find their way under the wheels of my chair. Should there ever be an instance of irreparable damage to the cord, I at least wouldn't need to replace the entire unit (the hefty two year warranty from Sennheiser would allow me to do so), but rather just the cord. I recommend the HD-590s to all my friends, though a few, unfortunately, are still content with only speakers (and some don't even have a surround-sound setup). I guess they'd rather not have the perfect sound that I've loved ever since donning the HD-590s.

Strength:

Replaceble connection cord, earpadding etc. Great!!

Weakness:

Since the back of the speaker is open, the sound slips out, so you dont wanna play in public.

I have used a couple of Sony MDR - V400 for 6 years and they have been very good for $80. SENNHEISER HD 590 Prestige is twice the price, but I can´t imagine how It could sound any better than this?

Strength:

Superb sound Excellent clarity and provides a spacious soundstage. Unbeliveable comfort Single cord entry and 10'' long

Weakness:

NONE! NONE! NONE!

Three years ago I purchased a set of Sennheiser HD 570''s. Loved the sound and enjoyed them, but always felt that I could do better. The bass was heavy and the mid range slightly muffled. The 570''s were named Symphony and were touted as excellent for classical music. Well I have had my eyes and ears opened when I heard the HD 590''s. In a word: UNBELIEVABLE! These cans are serious, a bit bright initially but after about 15 hrs. of burn in and wow they sing. My taste is only classical music and I listen to both LP''s and CD''s. The HD 590''s are excellent with large orchestral pieces opening up. Each instrument is clearly heard and not muddy. Placement of the instruments in various ensembles is solid and due to the open-aire design the sound is spacious and the sound stage is open and well beyond the space between your ears. The sound is excellent with clear highs and a well balance mid-range. Bass notes are solid and free of distortion even the lowest organ pedals at high volume levels don''t distort. Which brings me to the final comment, these headphones are very efficent and on my Harmon/Kardon receiver I never have my volume control past 9 o''clock for decent volume. My HD 570''s allways were operated at 12 o,clock for the same volume. All in all a serious headphone. One final comment. These headphones are unbelivably comfortable. I have had headphones all my life and I have used electrostatics and dynamics and I have to say that these headphones are the best I''ve ever owned. I tried the Sennheiser HD 600''s, good sound but the dual cord entry on the phones a major nucsance and are less comfortable than the HD 590''s made me go for the HD 590''s over the HD 600''s, and definitely not worth the extra 200 bucks. The HD 590''s are my last choice for headphones and I am looking forward to many hours of blissful sound.

Strength:

light, comfortable. incredible sound, makes me wonder what the 600s sound like. great clarity, you''ll notice details to the music you never knew were there

Weakness:

wants more power than most soundcards provide?

I''ve previously used the HD570s for about 2 years, and i was much impressed with the sennheiser''s audio quality. when my 570s started to go bad, i just bit the bullet and ordered the 590s, expecting them to be a hair better. turns out that they''re a leap beyond the 570s (which were already far and away the best cans i''ve ever used). i havn''t even given the 590s a proper burn-in yet, and they already sound better than the 570s ever did. btw, it turns out that the only thing wrong with the 570s seems to be a faulty cable, the actual headphones are still fine... which speaks to the quality of sennhesier''s construction. i''m still glad i got the 590s anyway, i think the 590s are the set i''m gonna own for awhile yet. the 590''s earmuffs and headband seem a bit "stiffer" than the 570s, which over time have molded themselves to my head, i don''t remember if they were this stiff when i first got them. if the 590s do the same, i cannot imagine a more comfortable set of headphones. i''m running them off the headphone jack on my klipsch promedia''s, which while not a true headphone amp, is far and away more power than my hercules gametheatre xp can put to the headphones. the 570s never sounde quite right run off the klipsch''s, but the 590s take all the power and ask for more. i cannot imagine any instance where i''d reccomend the 570s over the 590s. if you have the $125 that the 570s cost to spend on a quality set of headphones, then you have $165 or so for a set of 590s. you might not have the $300 for a set of hd600s tho.

Burn-in! Burn-in! Burn-in! Just want to emphasize the importance of burning in these headphones. Out of the box, I was very disappointed. The sound was harsh, the highs were too bright, ect. But, after about a week of use, these are sounding better all the time. I didn''t know about burn-in until I read this site. Thanks Audioreview!
