I tried these in a number of stores with lots of different equipment, trying to see if they could present a cheap, fast alternative to buying a pair of HD600's over the 'net.

In short, I thought they were really lacking. Big boomy bass, sizzly highs... blech. On some decent equipment nonetheless. The little $100 Sony headphones sounded better overall than the 570's (albeit still lacking a lot)

I've not heard the 580's or 600's so I cannot make a comparison. I just hope they are a league above the 570.

Please audition these before you buy them -- you might find you like them. They just didn't blow wind up *my* skirt at all.

Weakness:

Velour pads that are absorb dust, hair and similiar dirt

First I'd like to tell my opinions about power handling and so on... I can't believe my eyes, I tested my HD-570's on my few years old portable Philips AQ6560 Cassette Radio (Yeah.. I know that's not the best around) and I have decent output and enough volume too. These sounded nice plugged onto television too.

I disagree you guys who have complained about "not low bass enough", "too sharp trebles"...I've listened many kind of music; Techno, Metal, Lo-Fi, Jazz. In my ears HD-570's did well. Even though I noticed these are best on Lo-Fi & Jazz style music.

My right ear is a bit damaged. I didn't expect high pressure levels. I was very surprised that I could play music much louder than my OLD Sony DR-S5 feeling distortion in my ears.(I use Onkyo TX-DS474 AV-receiver) Maybe it is the clear sound that doesn't stress ears so much. Big cups also helps ear with it's roomy space. No more pressure on ear with these. I've listened about 5 hours in a row and ears aren't 'tired'.

Comparing to similiar products I've used, these are no.1
HD 470 stressed my ears with it's too sharp treble. Koss performed well, even though sound was a bit boomy.

Well.. you get different results with different equipment and in different conditions.
I really recommend these as your 'first step to hi-fi'. At least give it a try.

I know there is better headphones so 4 will be good rating for HD 570

Strength:

Basspunch, design, comfort

Weakness:

clearness could be better

These headphones are great in bassreproduction. They could be clearer compared to the AKG 305, I'm not that audiophile to condem "the bassfeeling" When I listento a bassguitar I must feel it and not just hear it.
I will also use them for movies and listening in case of insomnia... A good(...)overloaded bass can makes you very tired :)

Strength:

Nice look, long cord, tell the truth, I had a really good deal on Sennheisers trough a friend, so I bought the most expensive pair available at the store

Weakness:

Need a good amp to drive them properly, not especially good sounding (even on proper amp).

As I said I bought them for 125$CAN instead of 200$CAN, so it seemed like the perfect deal. My HD320`s (100$ when I bought them 4 years ago) headband is somewhat broken, so I thought I`d buy a new pair. 320`s gave me great sound trough all uses (portable cd, minisystem, computer), so I decided to stick with Sennheiser. It was probably to be expected, but none of that equipment could drive those headphones properly. I had bought the best Sony portable (DE-J915) to go with it and got tons of distortion since I had to push the volume to 10 to hear anything. Actually my old Panasonic portable did a way better job, but I still wasn`t impressed by the sound. Tried it on a friend`s decent separate`s system, and the sound was certainly not impressive at all. Bass wasn`t strong enough with Techno music, detail in high and midrange was not as good with classical or jazz as my 320`s were...
Maybe these high-quality headphones need a break-in period so their real qualities are revealed, but since I didn`t want to spend 125$ on something so unimpressive I brought them back to the store, end of story.
Now I think I`ll go look for Grado`s cans.

I've purchased a pair of HD570s a couple of days ago. Overall impression at the store was pretty favourable. These headphones' sound seemed to be detailed & accurate. They also were nicely built & felt pretty comfortable. I was not quite sure about the treble performance though.
At home I've listened to some of my favourite recordings (baroque music, solo piano & guitar, blues, hard rock) & I was quite disappointed. The treble levels produced by the phones were, IMO, too high & sometimes the sound brightness was hardly bearable. I've returned HD570s & purchased a pair of HD565s instead at a different store (those were on sale!!!). The 565s perform a whole lot better in every music genre reproduction. The two simply don't even come close. In general, the 570s are OK for classical music listeners, but I would not recommend them for rock fans...

Strength:

Super comfort. Very clan and detailed sound.

Weakness:

No I can see

I have used my Sennheiser 570 headphones for about a week now and I can say they are the BEST headphones I have ever heard. The crip detail is simply unbelievable. The bass is smooth, the mids are clean and the highs are perfect. But the detail is what is amazing. I can hear things in the music I never knew where there. I listen to newage music and the electronic wind chimes are so real you want to look up and expect to see them handing above you. I recommend these headphones. Some have commented that $150 was alittle to high. Well the Sony MDR-V600 does not come close and they are $100. $50 is not too much for these headphones. They actually sound better than some $500 speakers.

just got these today and will probably return them. although the overall sound is a drastic improvement over my $20 sonys, there is just too much bass. even with little bass info registering on the eq display, it's still "boom boom boom!" "symphony" and "natural sound" are used to advertise these, but all that extra heavy bass doesn't seem natural to me. and no, I'm not just used to the thin sonys. and no, it isn't what I have it connected to. Sennheiser refers to classical music a lot in their info for the 500/600 series. I don't understand this. nor do I understand recommending certain speakers for a particular kind of music. if a speaker/headphone sounds good for one type of music and a different sp./hdpn. "sounds" better for another type, then neither have "natural" sound. their only function should be to faithfully reproduce whatever kind of music they're being fed. maybe I'll try the HD600s, huh?

Strength:

Comfort, single-sided detachable cord, deep (but not loud) bass, detailed highs

Weakness:

Bass too soft and highs too bright for rock/dance music, may require an amp for best performance

This is my story of the Sennheiser HD570 Symphony headphones:
I originally dreamed of owning them until I decided to buy the Sony MDR-V900's. Now I'm extremely satisfied with them. The HD570's have deep, clear, reserved bass, decent mids, and detailed but bright highs. The bass isn't as loud as rock listeners may want; the highs may be too bright for rock music. And they're comfortable--so comfortable you may forget you have them on!

The single-sided detachable cord not only eliminates tangles and twists near the person's head, but also fixes the intermittent contact problem that afflicts older Sennheisers that had a detachable cord that attached to both earpieces. And the connector of these headphones at the earpiece end is a gold-plated micro/mini plug.

The catch of getting this relatively blissful sound, especially for acoustic and classical music: A headphone amp is recommended for these headphones; a portable's headphone jack is barely sufficient.

Please try before you buy~~you'll find that you may like this relatively cold sound. I find these (brand-new) a bit overpriced ($149.99) at Tweeter; get them at Circuit City instead for $119.99.

Strength:

comfortable

Weakness:

thin vieled sound, need alot of power

I loved my old 531s, but after sitting on them one too many times, I had to replace them. So I bought some 570s thinking "they must be pretty close to the 580s that all the audio reviewers love, and I'll save some cash." Wrong. 570s are actually renamed 545s. Thin and clouded is how I might describe the sound. I don't enjoy using them. So I bought some HD600s which I really like using. If you have the money for some 580s or 600s then go for it, otherwise checkout headphones from other companies.

Strength:

Very clear, smooth bass

Weakness:

none yet

I bought them at a fairly low Thanksgiving price at Frys in Oregon. I had heard a lot about Sennheiser on the net forum, so I decided to give them a try - without even trying it out at the store... Well it turned out that I had made the right choice - these headphones are awesome, and I would recommend it to anyone without a slight hesitation.

The moment I started listening to Yanni, is when the realization struck me - my God! I have been missing these tiny little sounds all the time!!!

This is a pretty slick looking headphone too. Very stylish, a tad larger - so from a distance, you'd end up looking alieny :)

After a while you almost forget that you are wearing them due to 2 reasons:
1. They are so comfy.
2. The music seems to come from somewhere far from your ears, rather than from closer to your ear - I think it is due to the circumaural design.
