Strength:

Outstanding bass, decent overall sound, excellent isolation from outside noise. Comes with three different sizes of earplugs.

Weakness:

Poor case design, may be unsafe for use while walking or jogging outdoors.

Why did I buy my EX-70LPs? Well, I bought a pair of top of the line 888s partially on the basis of the positive feedback received from this site. Suffice it to say that even after a decent break in I was extremely disappointed with the bass response, especially from a $79 pair of earbuds. The E136 earbuds that came bundled with my Sony MD player had much better bass response and cost much less when bought separately.

I then tried a friend's EX-70LPs and came away impressed, enough so to buy a pair for myself. I ran a Dolby Labs demo track through them and the bass was full and rich, sounding like I was listening to the subwoofer in my car's audio setup. Admittedly, the mids and highs weren't on par with the 888s, but the overall sound was much fuller and much more pleasing to listen to, especially for modern music. The extreme isolation of the EX-70LPs takes a bit of getting used to, and in fact I still use the 888s when outdoors, since the total lack of outside noise with these earbuds could be hazardous to your health when ambulant!

The carrying case is quite frankly one of the more poorly designed bits of Sony gear I've seen. You have a choice of storing the earpieces in it or winding the cable through it, but not both. In other words, you can keep your earbuds safe but have to deal with the cord dangling out, or you can keep the cord neatly rolled up but expose your earpieces to the outside world, which considering these things go INTO your ear canal is not such a hygenic idea. Much better design on the 888 carrying case for sure.

In summary, excellent bass response right up there with the Etymotics, and decent enough overall sound to make it a keeper. Not as versatile as most because of its awkward case and the hazards of using it on the go.

Strength:

DEEP BASS, lightweight, clean highs, and very comfortable.

Weakness:

A little weak in the midrange. The headphone wire is thin and the carrying case doesn't do much.

This little headphones are great. The bass response is excellent! I have to keep the bass level down on my Sony D-EJ915 CD Walkman from hurting my ears. I've tried many earbud type headphones and they either fall out of my ears or they are too large and hurt my ears. These have three different silicon buds that are interchangable to fit different ears. I almost forget that I am wearing them!

The only bones of contention I have are the thin wires, the almost useless carrying case and the minute lack of midrange response. With the thin wires, I'm afraid I'm going to break these things. The carrying case doesn't hold the buds and the wire at the same time. I've used it to wind up the extra wire to keep it from tangling. As far as the midrange goes, I've grown accustomed to the lack of some midrange response and still find the headphones totally pleasing.

All in all, I would highly recommend these headphones to anybody!

strenths:
full melodic bass, in case you know how to stick them in. everyone that says the bass sucks doesn't know how to wear em... wow! and clear fine heights. not scratchy at all.

weakness(es):
mids are a little weak. i'm totally happy with them though. sooo comfortable. yes, and the case is a little dumb. only the phones not the cord fits in.

i'm not the review posting guy. just wanted to let everybody know, that they are fantastic! i pulled out several old cds just to hear the difference between my 'old' earphones and speakers and these awesome little things...

i'm not a pro user, so i can't compare them to any of these other highend-earphones. but for me, this iss some really cool and new experience...

Strength:

Isolation, sound quality, Isolation.

Weakness:

Harsh Treble, but ok if you have treble control then you wont notice it.

Having read the other reviews for these headphones i decided to gamble and go for them. I am glad i did. You see these little headphones have a specific role. Isolation. No, they dont sound as good as Fontopia or sporta pros but on the underground and in noisy places like high streets i know which i will choose. They are fantastic in this environment and this is what they should be rated for they beat other earphones hands down in htis environment, which is what they are designed for. They block out so much sound its like your own little concert.
If you want isolation and travel in noisy places and want to clearly hear your music get these if you want the good sound quality out and about get the sporta pros. In my opinion get both. you will not be dissapointed as long as you use them for what they are designed for.

Strength:

it's a sony!! isolation from outside world

Weakness:

it's a sony!! ZERO bass, much too pricey. maybe too much isolation.

i needed a pair of air buds and have been eyeing the sonys for a while. the only thing holding me back was the price.
i finally scrounged enough to pay for them, bought soley on the good things i read about them.

what a mistake.

the first time i used them i was so disappointed.

even now after burning them in very hard for several days
constant, things have not gotten better.

bass was supposed to be the strong point of these 'phones.

where's the bass?????

any bass that is produced is of one-note bass quality, and just overhangs like crazy. no bass extension. no bass fundamentals. zilch.

the mid's and upper freq. seem adequate enough but nothing special.

other quibbles - chewing, eating, breathing, walking - basically any bodily movements are intensely amplified in your ears.

i guess once you use the koss porta-pro's, you become oblivious to just how bad the vast majority of "portable-type" headphones really are.

Strength:

Comfortable, Good Looking, Enclosed sound adds warmth, Decent all round frequencies

Weakness:

Long Cord, Bass starts off a little slowly (needs wearing in)

To really appreciate these bud style headphones, you have to use them for a while and then compare them to your run of the mill (included with portable player) ones.
From reading some of the reviews from this site, it seemed they were not worth the extra cash, however since buying them I haven't looked back.
Not only do they fit snugly in the ear canals, they don't distort at high volumes and, in my opinion, have good all round treble, bass and mid-ranges.
I suppose much of it comes down to what type of music you listen to (i.e. drum and bass enthusiasts may want to look for more powerful overhead headphones) but I feel that Sony have done themselves justice with this number. No real complaints here.
