Strength:

crisp, full well balanced sound, sensitive enough for portable music, lighter and more comfier than they appear

Weakness:

none at this price range.just wish the pin was "L" shaped and the wire was shorter.

the majority of grados bills are paid by with the sales of these "canz".the amount of "hi-fi"in these canz for the price for now is unbeatable.if sound is your priority then look no further.yes, they look a little retro like an air traffic controller or something of the sort.there's no way to insulate your earz when you are up against n.y.c subways and these canz are no better than any other in this area(due to the open design)but on the street i'm groovin and so is the person next to me.the person next to me can tell how crisp they sound as well.i use them at home too.my playstation games sound better than ever and on my portable dvd player it's so encompassing.matrix is just ridiculous.for i am moving soon and looking foward to treating myself to new stereo equipment(at least 3/4 of a brand new set up for my new homebase)these canz are easily holding me over until that time.....go get em....one...

Strength:

Great Sound. Price.

Weakness:

Very Open Design, the person next to you can hear almost as well as you can.

I picked up a pair of these from Soundex because I wanted to hear audiophile sound. I was suprised at the detail of these. While at the store I also tried out the SR80's. The difference(SR80's had slightly better bass) in my opinion was not enough to justify another $20. These are great headphones for home use for people on a budget.

Strength:

- low price
- amazing detail

Weakness:

- "red dog one to red dog squadron" looks
- can hurt if worn for long periods
- not real portable

I love these headphones. I demoed a ton o' cans and kept coming back to the Grados. The detail is amazing - I could hear a guitar pick drop on the Beatles "One" CD while listening on my Sony Discman. Blows most headphones out of the water. I mainly use them as PC headphones - great for internet radio. When I bought them, I asked about the return policy, the salesman said, there is no way you will return these and he was right. Makes an excellent gift too!

Strength:

Solid cable, nice connectors, very comfortable and of course: good sound!

Weakness:

It colours the treble a bit

I've been using the Sennheiser for a long time but there they aren't that good so I started looking around for a pair of new headphones. I called TapeConnection which sells hifi equipment of ALL brands! The guy there said that the Grado SR60 where the right choice for all type of music. Without even trying them out I ordered a pair, and next day they arrived.

I plugged them in and my first impresion was: "These headphones really stinks!" The sound was hollow and with no bass. I'd heard something about that I had to break them in, so I let them play for several ours at a loud volume. The result was fantastic, these stinky headphones had now turned into a wonderful hifi-product. The most important thing about the break-in is the bass, it is now deeb and accurate.

As you can see I paid 120 bucks for these babies. That is way much more than $69 but this is the price in Denmark. I wouldn't give it a five-star value rating since I had to pay this much.

The overall rating is four stars. I won't give them a five-star since they aren't far better than I had expected. A pricetag of $120 makes you have high expetations!

Some have said that the SR60s are bass shy, but this is actually not true. They are bass-accurate, meaning that the bass is reproduced at the right volume and right depth. If you own a pair of clumsy mainstream headphones connected to a discman with "Super Mega Ultra Bass" turned to the max then you may think that the SR60s are bass shy. But if you want a pumping bass then you can just turn up the bass on your stereo or the "Super Mega Ultra Bass" on your discman. The SR60s can handle it without distortion.

The bottom line is that these headphones are very good sounding, even if they cost you $120, so if you can get them for around $69, then you should run to your dealer and buy them.

Strength:

Multi-purpose - audiophile 'phones that can be driven easily by portables! Incredible detail and sensitivity; wide, smooth frequency response. Cheap considering the quality.

Weakness:

Only has weaknesses as a portable - cord too long, odd looks, too open.

Summary of this review: You CAN have hi-fi sound on the move.

I was looking for a portable system to take with me on a long holiday, but I didn't want to put up with crappy sound. So I bought the best CD walkman I could find - Incidentally a Panasonic SL-CT570 (everywhere had sold out of the Sony DEJ925). I promptly binned the supplied 'phones and started trying proper ones, based largely on what I'd read in this site.

I thought I was going to go for the Sennheiser HD495's - they had a very nice sound, especially the treble, and they were lightweight, good for portability, but the player was having trouble driving them. I was told they are one of the more sensitive 'proper' headphones, but at volume 10 they were barely loud enough. I was getting a bit downhearted - maybe you just can't get decent sound from a portable after all.

Which is just what they told me at the other shop, a real audiophiles' boutique where the Grado's are - they all but laughed at me there. "there's no way you can get a little box like that to drive real headphones" (fold arms, smirk, smirk) "Just go get some Fontopias or something like we do, don't waste your money" Honestly, I had to justify myself and make up a story about wanting them primarily for my audiophile home hi-fi (which doesn't exist) before they would let me test them on my portable! Thankfully they were wrong - these cans are SO sensitive, I could turn them up ear-rattlingly loud. Amazingly clear treble, rich bass, solid midrange. Nice open soundstage with every instrument and effect precisely defined, and the detail holds up through the whole frequency range. All so smoooooth and effortless. Cliche time again - They let me hear detail in the music I'd never noticed before. The very first impression I got was of... well, authority; like they were saying "Now I am going to show you how this music was supposed to sound." This is with a portable as the source, never mind a high-end Marantz deck or something.

I'm a bit of a gadget freak, but it's been a long time since I got genuinely excited about a piece of technology. These things really are quite extraordinary! They totally exceeded my expectations, even after reading several of the other glowing reviews here.

Other considerations for portable use: They look like they're fresh out of the '50s - maybe not so good if you're a fashion victim, unless you're into the retro look. Obviously the cord is annoyingly long since they're meant for home use, but it's not exactly a great hardship to have to coil it up a bit and stuff it in your pocket. Of course, they don't fold up and they look a little fragile, so they can be tricky to stash away, but I just let them hang round my neck most of the time anyway. They are quite lightweight at 200g, comfortable and airy. The downside to them being so airy and open is that you can hear all the ambient noise clearly, and people around you hear a lot of treble - maybe you'd be better off with a closed, DJ-style if you're going to listen to them in the city streets or on public transport most of the time.

I paid 79 UK Pounds for them, which is expensive compared to the US, but cheap considering what they do for your enjoyment of music.

Apologies for all the waffling and rambling, but I only got them a few days ago and I'm still on a high :P

Strength:

crisp clean sound. easily powered. comfy. good value

Weakness:

needs a lil more bass

I love these headphones. Before this I just had cheapo headphones. These sound so much better. They sound so clean and crisp. You can all the instruments, it's incredeble. You don't have to turn it up to hear it either. Vocals sound excellent on these.

They can be powered by almost anything. I havn't had anything can't power it yet.

Very comfy, I don't experience the discomfort other users described. A lil bit tight when first used, but losens up. Light on your head too.

It needs a lil more bass. The clean mids and highs more than makes up for it. It has good bass, just need more of it. Even though you don't get a lot of it, you still hear every bass beat (even those low low ones).

This headphone is a great value. I highly recommend it. If you are going to spend $20-$30 on a headphone, might as while spend a lil more and get these.

Strength:

Excellent sound. Excellent Value. Great for portable players.

Weakness:

A bit tight on the head when I first got them, but it didn't take long for them to adjust and fit my head perfectly.

These are the best headphones I've ever heard. They do not have as much bass as some Sony headphones that I've listened to, but the Sony have too much and not nearly as much detail as the SR60's have. The bass is perfect. The detail of the SR60's is unmatched by any headphones i've ever listened to, and they sound very full and rich. I'm no audiophile, but I can easily see why these headphone are so acclaimed by everyone. I use them on my portable Panaonic cd player and they are easily powered.
They are a bargain at their price, and sound simply amazing. If you're planning on buying headphones for under $100 and/or want great headphones for a portable player, put these at the top of your list.

VERY flimsy if your will try to put them in a carry-case. Plastic that "goes over your head" came apart in a few weeks...

Strength:

Very good sound, good tonal balance & good bass (listening to classical and jazz music); comfortable to me

Weakness:

none so far

I have never used a pair of audiophile headphones before these Grado's SR-60. I have been looking for a good pair of cans for a few weeks and when I began reading about these ones I thought: "I have to try them". So I purchased them and I must admit that I never thought a pair of headphones could sound so detailed and warm! The fact is that you never want to take them off. They work really well with my portable Sony D-E200 CD player too. You can really hear the sound of a double-bass or that of a bass drum when listening to jazz music, and with classical music you will be very satisfied too. SR-60s are really worth their price (though in Italy they are less inexpensive than in the US). So, I'm very happy I bought these cans and now I don't think I could find something better for the price. Thanks John Grado!

I just wanted to introduce Grado SR60 headphones in the review. They are not very comfortable but sound very good. I have heard everywhere that you can't get a better sounding headphone for $69. To quote Headroom (http://www.headroom.com/), "If you have a CD player then do yourself a favor. Get a pair of Grado SR60s!"
