Range of reception, sound quality, input options
Weakness:
Noise The comments here about the noise level and the need to reduce it by finding the right spot and not moving too much are true. Yet late at night when I don't want to bother anyone, I can lean back in my recliner and if the source signal is not to quiet I can ignore the noise. The sound quality except for the noise is quite good. I tried a pair of infered Sony MDR-DS3000 that cost $229. and they were only slightly better. For $31 these are great value. I would, however, pay more if I could eliminate the noise. Similar Products Used: Sony MDR-DS3000 |

Strength:
The sounds quality seems to be ok!
Weakness:
The headphone charger is not made for that model and it's probably why the swivel broke so easily. Out of the box, the left headphone swivel had broken and was hanging loose. I contact the store and they sent me a replacement without any question, which I found really nice. I received the replacement and that time it was the right headphone swivel. |

Strength:
Good bass Good battery life
Weakness:
Poor materials construction (swivel attachment breaks) Hiss. Received as a holiday gift last year ('02). Out of the box one headphone swivel had broken and was hanging loose. Ordered a replacement. Worked fine, notwithstanding the noticeable hiss described in other reviews here. Seems a bit of a waste, really, to run a digial cable to my PC and suffer the RF distortion Well, today returned the second pair for same reason: swivel post of cheap pastic construction had broken again in perfectly normal use. Strength:
Good crisp and clean sound. Wirelss stereo. Digital capability.
Weakness:
On/Off switch while in the cradle doesn't work all the time so it stays on while its charging. I bought the set from Ebay. It comes with a set of Audio cables and so I followed all the instructions and juiced up the batteries. When it was done I gave it a try. I found too much hiss everytime I turn my head. I didn't want to get a stiff neck all the time so I have to find a solution. It took some time for me to find it but I'm pleased with the result. All I did was I used a good Digital cable and connected it directly to the back of the DVD player outs. It rocks. Don't make a mistake of connecting your cables to the back of an HDTV. You'll still get hiss. Now I can move around the house without worrying about stiff necks :-) Make use of the best possible connection by using its Digital capability. Digital cannot have hiss. Digital is tops! Analog is good but not as good.... Similar Products Used: Sony wired headphones, Infra red or radio signal headphones and wireless 900mhz headphones. |

I must admit that I just now installed the system, but I can't stand to listen anymore. I'm hoping that maybe something went wrong when I was charging the batteries overnight and it will work better. But from reading other reviews, I'm afraid not.
Weakness:
It doesn't work. I mean it works, but there's so much hiss (white noise) that it hurts my ears, and I have to find a perfect head position to hear it without dreadful static and hiss. I'm totally shocked that this apparently is not a defective set. I can't believe I paid more than 150 dollars for this! Similar Products Used: None. |

Strength:
comfortable, perfect sound now and then
Weakness:
his/hum. allows freedom of movement at the expense of consistent good sound quality Excellent sound quality if you remain completely rigid once you achieve a good listening position. The moment you move however, there are reception/transmission aberances and hum/hiss contaminations, even close to the base transmitter. (This of course takes ALL the pleasure out it) For what you pay, a huge dissapointment. I am surprized, because my AR experience in the past has always been good. I will return them asap. Best Buy should provide opportunity to evaluate items like this in the store prior to purchase, but then again AR should stick to being a company offering acceptable equipment and not allow something like this to leave their workshops. |

Strength:
Good sound for a decent price.
Weakness:
Way to much hiss/hum. Even setting a few feet from the transmitter you get his if you move your head as much as a fraction. If they fixed this, it would be a great product for the price. Great idea. I was very excited the first day. Xbox games such as Halo sound great. I though the hum/hiss would go away after a good charge. Unfortunately it did not. I will probably return them soon. |

Strength:
- charge the headset batteries by placing the headset on the transmitter - multiple inputs (optical, coaxial, analog)
Weakness:
- no "charging" indicator light - poor range - RF hum I listen to music on my computer and find it irritating to have to remove my headphones just to reach something a few feet away from my desk. Same goes with getting a bite to eat in the kitchen. I looked into getting a set of wireless headphones for better freedom. I went to Best Buy and searched their stock, and the AW791s caught my attention. Some of the features listed on the box include: - built in Dolby Digital Processor - multiple inputs (optical, coaxial, analog) - 300' range - battery charger in transmitter (either charge the provided 3 NiMH batteries, or use 3 alkaline AAA batteries) - surround sound The list was great and the product looked promising, so I decided to buy them. The instructions say to charge the batteries for 10 hours before using them for the first time, so I placed the headset on the transmitter for charging. One thing I noticed is that there is no light to indicate if it is currently charging. The contacts on the transmitter and the receptacle on the headset didn't seem to align properly, but I had to hope for the best. The next day, I hooked them up and tried them out. One word to describe the experience: terrible. I was sitting about 5 feet from the base and I immediately heard a loud RF hum. Regardless, I turned on the music and noticed a slight lag, due to the auto-tuning between the headset and transmitter, which was acceptable. I started playing music on the computer and was less than satisfied with the quality. The RF hum was still noticeable, even with the music playing. It wasn't as strong, but I would expect better from a $170 set of headphones. I even tried changing frequencies, but that didn't help at all. Sound quality aside, I moved around to test the range. At about 20 feet, I could hear a slight increase in static, which would go away a few feet further. At about 50 feet, the static was fairly noticeable (50% music, 50% static) and at that point, I returned to my room, unhooked everything, and packed it all up to return. For $170, I expect the quality to be much better than what I experienced. For anyone looking to buy a nice set of wireless headphones, steer clear of the AW791s. They are a disappointment. If they were a lot cheaper, I could understand, but the price is too high for the lack of quality. Similar Products Used: Advent AW770 - get these instead. They are cheaper ($99) and the sound quality is much better. I got these a long time ago, but had to return them because they didn't work well where I lived at th |

Strength:
Very Good sound, portability, reasonable distance.
Weakness:
The on/off switch, shuffling batteries to the charger and back. I needed to get free of the cord to move around the house! My wife does not like my music, especially at the volumes that I do. These phones accomplished that. I have a large collection of music, and all generally sounds good in most places in my ( 4000+ sq ft) house. However, when you go out of range, it is quite frustrating, and unpredictable. The problem seems to be exacerbated by low batteries, so I bought another set, and have another set in a great charger ready to go when the problem arises. ( I use a battery charger that totally discharges the battery before it chares them- to make sure you have a full charge). I didn’t get the his or hum the others spoke off. In general, when I have found problems occur with the sound cutting out or lower quality, I get the newly recharged batteries and swap them out (easy to do). My biggest problem is the on/off switch seems to have a mind of its own. It comes on automatically when the stereo is on and the phones are in their cradle, and sometimes it is nearly impossible to get them to stay off when you want them off (and charging). This probably reduces the charge in the batteries , which exacerbates the problem. Similar Products Used: Only wired headphones (Koss Pro 4 AAA) |
