Strength:

Good picture.

Weakness:

Poor product support.

The overall operation to date of this unit has been excellent. Great picture and has always operated until the remote failed. It is difficult to watch a movie without the remote working unless you like to always have the close captioned turned on. I finally got a hold of APEX, ordered a new remote but they never sent it. It is almost impossible to talk to a live person there to place an order. I sent an e-mail & they advised me to call. Additionally, generic remotes do not support the APEX so that is not an option. To bad, I''ll buy Korean or Japanese next time.

Strength:

Cheap

Weakness:

Not reliable

It was OK when it worked, but recently it stoped to work All of a sudden it would not turn on. As soon as I press power button I start hearing repeating clicks (about two or three a second) and power light is blinking with the same frequency. Looks like it is in standby mode. Customer service does not answer emails. I guess I should look for another player. After searching web I relized it is a common problem for this model. So, be careful. Btw, if someone knows solution for this problem, please email me at ioffem@attbi.com. Thank you, Mark

Price, Plays anything!

For all of the People ripping this machine it does play mp3's. The problem is you! Mp3's must be in the proper format to play. Go to http://apexdigitalinc.com/ad660page. to find out how to format. It plays any DVD I have tried even rentals. Load speed is lightning fast. Access is the fatest I have seen. Remote works very well. This machine is the buy of a lifetime. It plays any brand cdr as well. This machine so rar is flawless.

Strength:

Good zoom features, nice picture (just like any DVD player). Can play CD-R, CD-RW, MP3, and VCDs

Weakness:

Sound sucks like a mother

The quote "you get what you pay for" has really bent into my mind as I purchased this prodcut. As a real fan of great sound quality, I'd just like to say that I've really been unsatisfied for this product. On my amplifier, I had to turn up the volume so high that the only thing I heard was mostly static in between all of the things I played. Get something else. If you want everything that this DVD player can do, it would be in your best interest to get the other similar products such as the Aiwa XV-DV370 or the Philips DVD711. There is no virtual surround sound, there is only a coax and S-video output. If you plan to just use it on something that you don't have to put through a receiver, I would suggest this product. There was minor skipping problems and I did not really care about that kind of stuff. That is all I have to say.

Strength:

Inexpensive, play's MP3's.

Weakness:

Unlike 600a, you can't disable Macrovision. Skips ALOT. (skipped last two chapters of YOU GOT MAIL.) Sometimes DVD drive won't grab DVD correctly.

I wound up buying two systems and taking them both back.

The first Apex 660 I bought played mp3s fine. However soon about every 4th or 5th disk, the player wouldn't catch the DVD correctly, and you would hear this horrible thrashing inside the player, causing you to eject, attempt to reseat and put it back in. So I took it back for another one.

The second Apex 660 played fine until about the 3rd disk, where it would completely skip the last two to three chapters of YOU GOT MAIL. Then it would skip through alot of T2: Judgement Day. Took it back and got an Aiwa 370.

Strength:

Plays DVD's and Audio CD's perfectly. Can't beat the price.

Weakness:

Won't play Mp3's.
Horrible customer service. (if you can reach them, most can't even speak Enlish)

This DVD player had lots of nice little extra features. It played DVD's and audio CD's perfectly too. BUT... after returning it for a new unit two times, I finally gave up on it because it would not play my Mp3's. It just went really fast like it was trying ot play them, but I could not hear anything. On the other hand, I tried both a Aiwa and a Panasonic in the store with the same discs and they worked, so I went with the Aiwa. Also, it is very hard to find customer assistance after buying this product. There is only one number, which you have to pay for; and no one at any store seems to know hardly anything about it.

Strength:

Plays anything, Price....

Weakness:

Remote, freezes on scratched disks.

Buy this DVD player if you want a machine that will play any type of disk. Don't buy this player if you don't have patience. This Player is great for playing VCD, Mp3s, audio CDs, and DVDs, but takes some gettings used to.
The remote is worst part of this player. Why the hell do they label the root menu "DVD Digest" and put the small button in the middle of a whole bunch of other usless buttons. The track forward, fast forward, and play buttons are also small and foolishly placed.
As far as picture quality and DVD usability this player is ok. There is some digital graineyness in the background especially on dark scenes, but it skips scenes relativley fast. This player does not do well with scratched, or damaged disks. On some occations the player will freeze, and need to be powered off if the disk is damaged. Other times it will take about 30 seconds to revert back to functionality.
Other than that it's not a bad machine. I bought it primarliy for playing MP3's and VCD's. I plan on buying a progressive scan player, and leaving this one hooked up to play my music.

Strength:

Cheap

Weakness:

Limited MP3 capability

I wanted a player that could handle MP3 disks that I burned myself. I have a pile of them that work fine on my PCs and my RioVolt portable player, but NONE of them would work in the DV660. I read all the comments about using different formats, etc., but decided that I don't want to go to the trouble of re-burning all of my music. All of mine are burned in Joliet format on 700MB disks. If Rio can read them, then I think Apex should too. I took mine back for a refund and I'm looking for something else, but this time I'll take a sample MP3 disk with me to try out in the shop!

Oh, it plays DVD disks OK...

Strength:

Fast menu/track access

Weakness:

the remote is huge and arranged awkward

This is my first ever DVD player and I am very happy with it. One thing that bothers me now is that it does not have component video. I didn't know much about component video when I bought this, but I wish I did. I can't really complain much because the player was cheap (originally 149$ but I got it for 100$ because 100$ model was out of stock). Using the S-Video outputs with the Panasonic CT-27D11 looks excellent(and so does the composite video)! If you will be satisfied with just S-Video and composite video then I see no point in spending 200$ or more. I also HAVE NOT had any track skipping problems as mentioned above. Overall a great buy IMO.
