This is A great player definitly. I owned one of the first generation Toshibas and the Denon is much better in every way. On video you get A more sharper detailed picture with better colors. I notised more shadow detail and textures seem more visible not washed out or blurred. Its audio section is mainly why I bought this unit. It images sounds perfectly across my room between my surrounds. I can hear cars and bullets wizzing past my head allmost fooling me as if it was real. And music is dynamic with A good soundstage , clean , and focused. I cannot find anything I dident like exept maybe the remote doesent have A light or glowing buttons. But all in all its A great all in one package.

Strength:

Picture, Picture Picture!

Weakness:

Terrible Manual

Recently Upgrading from an H/K AVR 80 to B&K's Ref 20, I needed a DVD player that would pass a DTS signal.

After looking around for a bit, I found this unit at a local chain that was 'open box', and missing a remote. Since I use a Marantz RC5000 to do everything anyway, no remote was NOT a concern.

From the moment I replaced the sony, the differences were immediate. Blues, greens and reds really stand out now, compared to before. The DVD, 'The Fifth Element' looks AMAZING on this player (with no signs of artifacts or any other digital querks).

Player to player, this Denon blows the Sony away. Which is surprising since the s-3000 is generally regarded as the same as sony's reference s-7000/7700. Could it be this Denon is better than both?
