NONE THAT I'VE EXPIERIENCED. I WAS THE FIRST PERSON TO PURCHASE THIS MODEL IN MY HOME TOWN, AND I GUESS I GOT LUCKY BECAUSE MY PLAYER HAD THE (BLACK DOT) BY THE SERIAL NUMBER. MY MODEL 2800 WORKS IN PERFECT HARMONY WITH MY 55" WIDE SCREEN HD SET. I FEEL SORRY FOR THE PEOPLE THAT PURCHASED THE BUGGED MODELS BECAUSE I FELT THEY GAVE THE PLAYER AN UNJUSTIFIED LOW RATING. THERE ARE BUGS IN LOTS OF NEW MODELS ITS JUST PART OF TAKING THE RISK AND BUYING THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY. I TESTED THE 2800 WITH VIDEO ESSENTIALS CALIBRATION VIDEO AND THE PLAYER DID OUTSTANDING. IT HAD VARY ACCURATE TRANSITIONS BETWEEN PROGRESSIVE AND INTERLACED IMAGES. I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT HOW I FEEL THIS PLAYER IS A STEAL AT $800.00. WAY TO GO DENON I AM VEY PLEASED WITH MY SECOND PURCHASE OF ONE OF YOUR PRODUCTS. Similar Products Used: NONE |

Strength:
picture quality
Weakness:
remote control Compared to my previous DVD players: Panasonic DVD-A310 and Sony NS500C, this is a significant picture quality upgrade. The picture quality is excellent when I hooked it up with the Panasonic CT-34WX50 television. This is an excellent value for the price and picture performance. The remote control is pretty useless though. |

Strength:
Excellent picture, smooth motion, no problems
Weakness:
Remote places buttons in unconventional locations. Some menus confusing I ordered this unit from eCost.com back in February, but luckily did not get one of the older defective units. They shipped mine 3 weeks ago, and I have not had any problems. I just built a home theater in my basement with a Dwin Transcanner and front projector, Stewart screen, and Marantz theater receiver. I had a Sony S7700 initially, which gave a very clear picture, but I noticed some annoying motion/interlacing artifacts, particularly with rapid movements of the whole scene (like scenes shot from an airplane). I dropped the DV-2800 in and initially had problems since I could only get a progressive picture to play through the Y/C connector into the Dwin, but not through the component outputs. It turns out that the Transcanner doesn't support progressive input through component, only Y-C. But even through the Y/C the picture looks terrific, with lots of details, super color rendition, and no motion artifact. I was able to watch Gladiator and get through the battle scenes (with the motion effects) without throwing up. Then I started to watch T2 at around 11 PM, but I figured I'd better turn it off when the ending credits started rolling. On another day I thoroughly enjoyed the opening of Lost in Space (though I still don't "get" that movie). Some say that for the money this is a great unit. Granted, it is built a little on the cheesy side, but I think it would be difficult to find a better picture without spending three times as much (or more).... Similar Products Used: Sony S7700 |

About what one would look for from a DVD player
Weakness:
Inability to defeat full screen lock mode with Pioneer TV This product seems to be one of those schizophrenic things that occasionally get into the market. My experience echoes that of the others who are quite pleased. I did call Denon for the CD upgrade and had it within two days. Not too shabby..... (Frankly noticed no difference, heard no difference after the CD installation, but felt better for having done it) |

Great Progressive Scan unit
Weakness:
Turn around time for a new one. Pioneer 37 is a great unit, but the Denon using the DVDO chip produces a better picture. There are some 2800 units out there that have a defective power supply so check your progressive scan outputs and make sure you don't have the wave/pulse problem. All I can say is Denon is only getting a bad rap on a few defective players. So if you have one see how Denon replies and if they send you a new one ASAP and then judge the unit. None at this time Just received this unit, hooked it up all I can say is spectacular. Anyone in the market ready to buy a DVD player this is the one for you. Progressive scan is the only way to go. I have a Pioneer HDTV and the picture quality I get is superb. The wait for this unit was well worth it. In all the other reviews in this forum it appears everyone is highlighting the specs and now I can see why. So for the gentleman saying that you should not be reviewing this product without using it is wrong because specs truly do speak for themselves and by the way why did he give it 3 stars when he did'nt even have the unit to review? Anyway trust me, go out and buy one of these units, do yourself a favor, you won't regret it. |

delay in distribution I have recently upgraded my home entertainment center, and the DVD player was intended to be the crown jewel of the system. I did alot of research on DVD plays. I wanted a SHARP picture and progressive capability, although my SONY WEGA XBR-250 does not accept progressive input (I plan to upgrade down the road, but with the $1800 I paid only a year-and-a-half ago I'm not in any hurry just yet. Anyway, I auditioned the Sony 560 but it was too cheap in audio and video, thus the $300 price tag, I also viewed the ES-9000, but I thought it was too expensive for DVD (I dont need SACD capability just yet). The Marantz 7010 was a total bust and the dealer charged me $150 bucks to return it. I ate the money because it was that bad. I was strongly considering the Toshiba 9200 but I was looking to spend less than $1,000. I read about the 2800 and it sounded like it had everything I was looking for at the price I wanted to pay. After pre-ordering this unit(risky, since I hadnt seen a demo)a month-and-a-half ago I finally got it this week. Using component cables and a digital co-ax, I hooked it up to my Denon 3801 receiver. Once I got the player out of progressive mode (it comes from the factory defaulting to this mode), and into interlaced, the picture was exactly what I was hoping for: clean, sharp, and detailed and the sound was great. I tested Gladiator, Fantasia 2000, and Saving Private Ryan. I am very pleased. Except for the Toshiba 9200, which costs more than twice as much (even on the net), this player dogs the competition. I have read on this site that the player has some problems in progessive mode. Unfortunately, I can not confirm or deny these claims due to the limitations of my TV. Strickly speaking on interlaced playback, this unit will not disappoint for the price. It may not be the new reference model people were hoping for, but it is a great machine. PAST/OLD eprom error I just purchased the Denon 2800 yesterday with the GREEN DOT next to the serial number (located on the outside of the box). I just wanted to let people know that Denon is shipping GOOD UNITS without this BLACK DOT. The sure way to check and see if your unit has the latest firmware update is to power the unit off, hold down the PLAY and OPEN button while turning the POWER back on. Then grab your remote and hit the MENU button twice (2). If you firmware is #5248 (which mine was) than you have the latest version. As far as the picture quality goes, I was very impressed. As many people have said, its not 1080i, but it’s the best DVD picture I have ever see. |
