Weakness:

Expensive

Great DVD Player for my first one. I have tried Pioneer's DVL 909 and the picture quality on the Denon outbeats the Pioneer. The Sony 7700 was on the same class.

My System consists of :
Yamaha DSP A1 AV Receiver
Jamo Front Speakers
Tannoy Rear Speakers
Jamo Centre Speaker
Denon 3000 DVD Player

Similar Products Used:

Pioneer DVL 909 , Sony 7700

I've had this product for 4 months now. This wasmy first DVD player so I am very high on this unit.
Comparing the technology of DVD to VHS, no contest.
It looks really nice and simple. The control and
GUI menu options are easy to follow. I believe
it is a little more expensive than the sony 500s
at $700, but I think it is worth it.

Actually, what appealed to me abou this DVD player is the fact that it also sounded SUPERB w/ 2 channel audio CD's. Stereophile agrees too, naming it thier secnd choice for the best DVD player, and remarking that the sound was superior to thier first choice (pioneer dv09 @2200.00)I found this unit easily able to compete w/ CD players in its price range... and it plays DVD's too! I would use this as my primary CD player if I hadn't bought a Musical Fidelity X24k DAC.
A great unit. easily one of the best DVD players.

Cd player... not seriouslyWithout getting into the "dvd players are not cd players" debate, this is a great Dvd player but cannot be mistaken for a good dedicated cd player.
I have had it on loan for 2 weeks and cannot see any 2 channel cd application.
...and this is the CD section

OK, this is really a CD section (as one of the previous reviewers noticed). And Denon-3000 is not only a great DVD player, but also a perfect CD unit. Compared with my old Marantz CD-48 (cheap, but lovely!), it sounds like a little touch of higher class. You`re moving to parterre from the balcony, where you can see each detail of the scene. Try it with the symphonony orchestra and you`ll see.
P.S. In Moscow Denon DVD-3000 costs $380 at authorized dealer`s store. Not bad, I think!

I've had the DVD-3000 for about a year now. It's kind of an expensive player at almost $900, but the price is worth it. I should note that this player is built by the same people that build the Panasonic A110 and A310. The specs are the same as the A310, but I believe the Denon is higher quality (therefore the difference in price). The case is much sturdier and of a different design than the A-310.
I have not experienced any of the problems people have reported with the Panasonic A310. I have had no player lock-ups, no picture quality issues or sound issues. I'm not using the internal DD decoder, and I haven't tried to play DTS, PCM, or 24/96 discs on the player.

Picture quality is amazing. Downconversion of anamorphic DVDs is only a problem during the credits (you can see a slight gitter), but is not evident during the movie. Some discs will display a strange horizontal line effect when changing chapters. This only happens for one frame, and is not noticable except where a chapter switch occures during fast movement on the screen and then only on some discs.

Sound quality is what you would expect from using the coax output to a DD receiver, it depends on the receiver. I have not used the supplied 5.1 outputs.

CD audio quality rivals that of a mid 80s Sony discman. Don't even bother using this player as your CD player. I did this for a while until I bought the Denon DCD-1650AR. Night and Day difference. Even a cheap CD player will sound better than this player. CD playback, however, is not supposed to be the priority of DVD players.

I am using the composite video output. S-video and component video jacks are included. I tried an S-video cable, but there was no difference in video quality. I should note that I'm using a high quality Transparent component video cable. I really wanted to see a difference between the two cables, but the fact that I couldn't on my 32" proscan TV speaks volumes about the player's and the cable's ability to properly pass video signals through any of the outputs.

All output jacks are gold plated and include two complete A/V outputs with stereo audio jacks, composite and S-video, one component video out, one coaxial digital out and one optical (toslink) digital out. The player can pass DD and DTS bitstreams.

I am very happy with this player. It was the start to my HT system. It started out on a 20" TV with no receiver and has moved into a full-blown HT setup without any problems. Even on the 20" TV, the video quality was very, very good.

The remote and the setup procedure was a little cumbersome, but an extra ten minutes actually reading the manual does not detract from the quality of the player.

I give this player 5 stars with a side note about the poor CD quality. The player excells in all the important areas.

After reading many reviews here on ConsumerReview, I found a floor model of the DVD-3000 at a local Good Guys that was selling at a substantial discount. It was still under warranty, so I grabbed.
So far, it has been wonderful! The picture has been great, and I have not noticed any problems that seem to plague other DVD players (lip synch probs, etc.). I have not upgraded my audio system to support surround sound (that Audio Research decoder is still way out of reach!), so I can only comment on the mixed stereo output...which has been excellent on my modest system.

The menu system and configurable features are teriffic!

Strength:

Plays all types of DVD's

Weakness:

None

I picked this DVD player up at Ubid for under $500, I think it list closer to a $1000. It has DTS along with AC-3 decoding. The sound in the DTS mode is simple amazing but it is hard to find DTS dvds. I believe this was an excellent choice for my first DVD player. DVD's make movie theaters a waste of money. Now I take my girlfriend to my house for the best movie experience. LOVE IT!

I've had this player for almost a year now and I must say that for the money, the player is perfected. I must let you know that I never used it to play CD's, but that not the reason that I got the player. I got the player for it's great audio and picture control.

Strength:

When it works, picture seems very good- better than a good VCR.

Weakness:

Starting to act up after about 1 yr. Skipps then locks up. Sends a "no disc" message, then works a bit, then same problem.

Have used this product in with denon avr 3600 for about a yr now for dvd & cd. Bought as a demo for $600. It just started to act up last week while watching a movie (Mystery Alaska- liked it). The movie would make a digital blurr (that litle box pattern) and then freeze. I washed the disc in warm soapy water and dryed w/ a soft towel-even though it looked pretty clean from Blockbuster. No luck, finished watching on VCR. Did a quick test on audio cd's and they seemed to work fine. Until...

Yesterday the unit started to have problems with regular audio cd's. After about 45 minutes of playing music in direct sterio mode it locks up and stops playing. Sometimes it skipps a bit and then advances to the end of the disc, other times it just goes right to the end. From there none of the play, fwd or rew functions work. After opening the tray I keep getting a "no disc" message even though the cd is seated properly in the tray. It will read the disc after about 5 or 6 times opening and closing the door- then play for 20-45 minutes and problems again.

Spoke to my dealer- he tells me the engineers now say earlier made dvd players are running into problems due to the single laser pickup designe and newer models now employ a 2 pickup designe, 1 for cd's the other for dvd's. OK. Sounds possible. Apparently there is no recall or fix kit for my model so that news doesn't seem to really help me.

My dealer is checking to see if I bought my unit recenly enough to be under warantee. He also suggested that I try cleaning the laser, so I'll go home later and get out my best butter knife to take the thing appart.

Will post a follow up when i find out if this is a simple cleaning problem. If so my rating will be 5 stars 'cause it was great for both cd & dvd. If not, 1 due to longevity or lack there of.

Anyone with any insight for me please post suggestions on this review page. Thnks!
