Strength:

Picture Quality, Sound and Easy to use.

Weakness:

Crappy display on machine.

Got this thing hooked up to my Infocus lp-350, and I'll tell you that this is the best picture quality I've ever seen (especially anamorphic disks).

I've owned players from all of the "similar products used". With this projector display (very demanding) I was always less then satisfied. This player is beyond phenomenal. I just bought another one for my brother.

I found that the stereo sound (selected pass-through on the receiver) from my CD's was also intense. I've never found a player with better decoding then my receiver before.

The only drawback on this player is the crappy front panel display. But I’m so glued to the picture on the screen that I’ll forgive it.

The 4 star rating for value is due to the fact that, in this price range, you can get players with more features. Please don't take it as a knock on this superlative player.

Strength:

Awesome picture & sound. WONDERFUL VALUE

Weakness:

Cheesy, small remote. Hard to read disc numbers on tray.

The Denon is GREAT! My Sony VEGA never looked so good! Even my wife commented on the difference between the Toshiba & the Denon.I was quite surprised by by the quick disc swapping & reading, even compared to my old single tray Toshiba. The sound is amazing I'm hearing things on CD's & DVD's that I dont't remember hearing before. I never thought there would be a huge difference between players until this machine. For the money, I really don't think you can beat it. By the way, Crazy Eddies has the best price on the web.

Strength:

sound quality; picture; ease of setup; quiet operation

Weakness:

remote; inability to read CD-Rs

With the exception of a typically poor Denon remote and an inability to read CD-Rs (a standard drawback of nearly all DVD players until only very recently), I have only good things to say about the DVM-1800, which I believe may well offer the best combination of performance and value of any 5-disc DVD changer on the market today. It also looks simply great and carries the prestigious (still?) Denon name.

Perhaps not surprisingly, the picture from this machine is amazingly good, but it distinguishes itself most from its would-be competitors in the sound department. I think of myself as having a fairly discriminating ear for musical sound, and I have been impressed from the beginning with the richness and punch of the audio from the DVM-1800, even when playing conventional CDs. Compared with my old Yamaha CD player . . . well, there really is no comparison. I also agree with the previous reviewer that the marginal difference in audio performance between this player and the Denon DVM-3700 (which I also auditioned prior to purchase) can't possibly justify the several hundred dollars' difference in price tags (even if you figure in the HDCD and "Alpha 24" features of the 3700).

Having read some of the other reviews of Denon DVD players on this site, I have some marginal concern about the build quality and long-term durability of the DVM-1800 (especially since I bought it online and may run into a hassle if I ever need to get warranty service), but thus far (knock on wood) I have experienced no problems with the player, and I'm more than satisfied.

Finally, as long as I'm here, let me throw in a plug for the guys at Acousticsounddesign.com (from where I bought the DVM-1800). They had the best prices that I could find on the web on first quality merchandise, they were responsive to all of my questions and concerns, and their customer service was absolutely top notch. Highly recommended.

Strength:

Built like a tank, smooth operation, Excellent picture and sound, Looks great !

Weakness:

Remote is to small and lame

What can I say ? I love this product ! when coupled with my Denon AVR-2801 receiver the experience is fantastic ! the picture is smooth and clear, the sound is amazing, and in the month or so that I have owned it there has never been a problem, it just works and works very well I would recommend this player to anyone. For me, I don't care if it plays CR-R's, CD-RW's, or MP-3's. I wasn't to play DVD's and play them well, boot leg MP3's are not what I consider High Quality audio.
