Strength:

I never bought one of these.. but my friend san has almost bashed the thing a few times because it was skipping

Weakness:

It has a better chance of playing burned pancakes

I suggest all of the people a GE die a slow agonizing death by being staked to the ground covered with honey and set out to be eaten alive by fireants.

Strength:

Was wonderful at first, played beautifully, and picture was wonderful in quality, played CDs with perfect sound, even better than my stereo

Weakness:

DIED!!!! 5 months later!!!!!!!!!!!!Heats up quickly. I think it would make a better toaster than a DVD player!

Apparently the case isnt that my DVD player hates me, like I thought. I have the same problems as many, except, that now I have to replace my DVD's as well!!! I dont have the exact same one, but a grade lower! Still, the darn thing actually scratches my DVDs! At first I thought it was my neighbors DVDs since they were the ones that I borrowed from her that would skip. Then it started doing it with brand new, out of the shrink wrap and case DVD's! Now I have well over 75 DVD's that guess what, I get to replace because this thing STINKS!!!! I rented DVDs from Blockbuster(hoping that I was dillusioned and it was my own DVDs since both me and the neighbor have kids with sticky fingers) But that darn rented DVD is now scratched as well, and it wasnt when I put it in the machine. We miss full scenes instead of seconds now, and there is now searching backwards because as soon as u do, it skips right forward again!!!!! UGH!!! this thing is gonna fly against the wall!I do not recommend anyone buy this darn thing. We were going to sell it on Ebay, but who in their right mind would buy it. I shoulda shelled out the extra 25 for something better! This is my first bad experience with GE, since everything else in my LR is GE, but damned if Ill buy another GE product!

Strength:

It didn't play long enough to have a strength.

Weakness:

Stops reading disks after 20 or so uses, I've heard of disposable products but damn, at $139 a pop!

Yeah, I agree, this is the crappiest excuse for a DVD player on the market, we should all file class action lawsuits against GE for selling this junk to a naive public that just wanted something to enjoy for at least more than 20 uses. Steer clear of anything GE my friends, I sure will!

Well lets see. I paid a pretty decent price for this player and for the performce that I got from it. It is far more than expected. All i can say is that this Player is pretty damn good but i wont pay no more than 100 dollars for it.

Strength:

picture quality, price I paid, remote, simple and excellent design, sound.

Weakness:

first generation system, no progresive scan, or other newer technical advances.

The old saying goes you get what you pay for. well for the amount of money I paid for the unit it has offered excellent but not spotless performance. excellent picture quality. efficient and simple layout. and sound is great.
I do not understand why poeple have been dogging the player. the only movie it has given "skips" was duece bigalow and of course dvd rentals that are not cleaned before use. otherwise GE rocks. I own a ge tv that has worked great for the last five years without flaw. and a solid vcr player that has been reliable and effective.

Strength:

Plays any discs, so far. Have about close to 200 of them. 90% are current releases, special editions

Weakness:

Gets very hot very quicky, though I have not exp any problems due to heat other than a hot disc

Everyone I know has had a DVD player from the start. I paid close attention to what I was hearing about them. Investigated reviews, prices, options, etc. Bought my GE1105P (with the new upgraded software as of xmas 99) and haven't really had any problems. Well, one problem. Scary Movie wouldn't play but it was not the fault of the player. Hey, got this player and scary movie and just do not have the money to get a better one? Wanna watch Scary Movie on it anyway? Just click the fast fwd (on the machine not remote) while the disk is booting and it will play the movie just fine. I only thought to do this because I knew it was hanging up on the last frame of the FBI warning track where it tells it which chapter is next. And by the way, grow up people. Don't like a movie? Fine, don't. But don't berate people because they own the movie.

I would suggest this machine very highly to a newcomer to DVD. It's cheap enough in price and has many great features. All of my friends own those expensive players and guess what? They cannot play a multitude of movies. I have heard so many complaints about the players. They should be complaining about the discs usually.

Happy viewing no matter which brand you own and what movies you watch.

Strength:

Cheap - but you get what you pay for

Weakness:

Unreliable - 100% failure rate in my experience with two machines.

Purchased this GE DVD player in Dec 99. First unit lasted about 6-7 months before it refused to play disks. We obtained a "refurbished" player from GE for about $90 and it has lasted about the same time - 6-7 months - before it quit working. The disks will play in other systems.

Strength:

Excellent picture and sound quality

Weakness:

Some flaws but can be overlooked

Have had this for one year-I've noticed that sometimes
I will get bad/no audio or a glitch in the video
but this can easily be remedied by resetting the player
(stop/on/off). Also, try to use a digital out and super VHS
video cable out.
Again, for the price I paid, the flaws with this player are
easily overlooked. Also, I was careful to buy the upgraded version and tested the Matrix immediately-:).

Strength:

it was cheap and available

Weakness:

it does skip sometimes

I went to sight and sound looking for a $200 to $300
unit but when i got there they told me the were all out of
dvd players of all price ranges. so me and my wife
went to best buy and bought an oritron not knowing how bad this unit was. We bought it two days befre thanksgiiving and had my whole family over at my house to watch movies on my 62" bigscreen. anyway the oritron unit made it through two movies and quit. so we took it back to best buy and they had no problem exchanging it for a different brand.
so we bought the GE brand. We got 11 free dvd movies and 25 free blockbuster rentals free it was a great deal.

We have had this unit for over a year and have had only one problem. We rented The movie "Scary Movie" and at first it didn't work. But as persistant as i am i pressed play and held it down throught he fbi warning and it played the rest of the movie just fine.

This is a good unit as long as you keep it clean and wipe finger prints off of rented movies. if you don't know the difference between a more expensive unit and this one you will like it. but if you wan't the full expensive movie experiance spend the mony or go out to the movies.
