Strength:

Plays VCD, DVD, CD, CD-R, and CD-RW. Not many DVD palyers have all these features. DD and DTS compatiable.

Weakness:

NONE

I've haven't had any problems with this DVD player. I got this DVD player because of price and brand. The JVC is great when it comes to video production. (How many of you would buy a JVC VCR or camcorder or have one of the other)? JVC is good on camcorders, VCR, and DVD. I feel sorry for those who have had bad experiences with this model. I can't understand what they are going through because it hasn't happened to me. I love to burn CDs from Napster and Scour to play the music on the JVC DVD player because it can play CD-R and CD-RW. Playing it on my full home theater makes the downloaded music on a CD-R or CD-RW sound so awsome. This DVD player has it all for your hometheater needs at a low cost. DD, DTS, composite out, S-video, coaxial, and optical out, VCD, DVD, CD, CD-R, and CD-RW compatiable.

Strength:

None so far....

Weakness:

Skips, freezes, doesn't play....

I have YET to watch a full DVD on my JVC player. Apparently I am not alone in this problem, judging from similar reviews on this website and from letters on planetfeedback.com.

About one hour into viewiing any DVD the picture begins to freeze and jump and the audio cuts in and out. It gets so bad eventually that the screen reverts to its safe mode during bad reception (blue screen).

My unit is not being held hostage by JVC in Aurora, IL as they try to get $78 form me for labor costs in replacing an optical lens that never worked. If I get my unit back in good working order WITHOUT paying them, I will take this review down, and/or edit it.

Strength:

Plays CD-R's !!!! Great picture, great sound across the board.

Weakness:

None, just me adjusting to the remote I think.

Zenith's website claims the 2250 plays CD-R's. NOT !!! The user manual provided with the 2250 clearly states otherwise.
Returned the Zenith and bought the JVC. Does what it's supposed to and it looks good. Played 'The Mummy' and it looked and sounded great.

Strength:

Sleek gold finish is a nice touch to the usual black. Video is superb and the sound quality is excellent.

Weakness:

Their is a little curve to learning the remote as their is with all new units.

This unit has played EVERY movie quite well. The Matrix was absolutely awesome without one glitch. Does what it says it will do. This unit also allows pass through of DTS, but be sure the the digital audio output under the menu screen is set to PCM/STREAM because all players shipped new will be automatically set for DVD/PCM. I have seen many reviews here complaing about the remote not having a shuttle option. Better look twice because the shuttle function can be achieved pressing the shift key and the forward or reverse button at the sametime. Designed to be like Windows I guess. The only flaws to this unit is that it is slow starting a DVD and if you press to the title/chapter skip to quick to fast you will sometimes loose the audio and have to reset the audio on your reciever. The other is the still picture option while holding the pause button to long. Besides that a 4.5 overall. I recommend it.

Great Picture, Never Skips,

I found this product to be a great deal. I first bought the Samsung 610 trying to save move but it skipped on every movie. (Green Mile, X-men, The Temptations,) I thought there was just something wrong with the DVD but from reading the revues I found that it was just the model. I returned the Samsung and bought this JVC which was only $10 more. I have been very happy with it. It has only skipped once since I purchased it and that was because the disk smudges on it. Once I cleaned the disk it worked flawlessly. I am sold on this one and recommend it to
everyone.

Price, Good sound

Weakness:

The REMOTE, long CD loading time, menu use

Well I LOVE JVC tape decks, so I thought I would try their other products. The Minidiscs are wonderful, never a prob. The VCR I have was a crappy refurb that they didn't even bother to inspect. Will be replacing soon. I am very wary of JVC refurbs/factory returns from this one and the DVD I am about to review.
First of all, using FedEx's Home delivery is slower than molassas. When I finally did get it, the box was so smashed that I was thinking about returning it unopened to Ubid, but they prolly wouldn't take a smashed box as an excuse. (Would have not accepted it from FedEx in the first place, but they took it upon themselves to drop it off at a neighbors place, full well knowing I wouldn't accept as it was)So I finally open it and the packing on the inside is broken, not a good sign. I set it up and miraculously, it works! No problems! Takes about 8 deconds to load a CD, which is about 7 seconds longer than my 10 year old CD player. 8 seconds doesn't sound like a long time, but count it out every time you load a cd, and it gets annoying quick.
Then came using the remote. What in the hell was the designer smoking when he came up with this piece of work? First of all you can't access the menu unless the disc is already playing. ??? The menu is supposed to be the starting point for playing various things and setup before you start playing. Not a real biggie, but an extra step none the less. Then the searching. Completely different from the VCR I have and yet the remotes are almost identical. On the VCR it's one-click search on-search off. On the DVD, it's press and hold. Then if you want anything other than X5 (switching to X20 after about 10 seconds) you have to hit a SHIFT KEY. WTF??? A two-handed operation? You can't hit the shift and search with the same hand!
Overall, I'd say the design needs some major improvement. Would avoid this unit if you are going to use anything other than the play and stop buttons, otherwise, it's OK.

Strength:

Solidly constructed as compared to most DVD players in this
price range.

Weakness:

If you press and hold down the remote controls PAUSE button for more than ONE Second. The Player goes into a 9 picture Strobe mode. It takes two buttons on the remote to cancel this feature and go back to play mode!

Pros: High Quality - Low Price !
Cons: No Headphone Jack, One Pair Audio Outputs

Well,Before buying this I did much research.
I have seen many DVD players, but this one is the first
I've actually owned.

I read the Magazine Reviews of all the new model DVD
players in the $200-$250 Price range. (I paid $215)
They all seemed to get basically the same review.
So I had to judge the unit on how well it's made and the features.

The Gold Color Makes this standout from others on display in stores.
It is a great looking unit with a front panel jog shuttle control.
Solidly constructed as compared to most DVD players in this
price range.

The display is clear and easy to read, and the controls on the player itself are nicely set up.

The remote control may take a bit of learning . Since Some buttons serve
more than feature. The Remote also controls your Television set.

The DVD has very smooth Slow Motion and Search (5 Speeds)(Fwd/Rev)
with a Jog Shuttle on the front panel but not on the remote.
But the Remote has easy to use Slow Motion and scan buttons.

There is one reason I wont give this 5 Stars. If you press and hold down the remote controls PAUSE button for more than ONE Second. The Player goes into a 9 picture Strobe mode. It takes two buttons on the remote to cancel this feature and go back to play mode!

I find this is annoying. But Maybe some people may find this feature useful.

This player has features that are more typically found on higher-end players. Fiber-out, A-B replay, zoom, indexing, component video outputs, and Dolby Digital 5.1 are all there along with the added ability to read/play CD-R, CD-RW, and Video CDs.

I've tried the 3D simulated sound on this player, and it worked well with just two speakers. It has settings for Drama, Action, Theatre.

The Theatre Mode which is supposed to adjust the contrast of the picture,
just made my picture darker! I have a 27" Flat Screen Panasonic TV.

Overall, I think this player is one of the best in its price range.

Shop around this player sells for as low as $185.00 at WWW.BUYDIG.com and as High as $250.00 at CRUTCHFIELD.com

Sound: Excellent for all average users
Ease of Use: The basics are easy to learn and apply
Picture Quality: Sharper and crisp.

Recommend to other potential buyers? Yes

Great Picture! Cool screen saver for your TV,easy set-up

Weakness:

remote stinks

I have read most of the reviews here, and everyone seems to have problems after about 90 days,I am not at that point yet,but so far I love this dvd player! The picture is great, the menu is easy to use,and I really like the screen saver for your TV.I used to have an aiwa dvd player and after about 30 days the problems started coming,so I replaced it with the JVC.Came home got it out of the box,and it was very easy to set-up,the picture was great! The gold color really adds some life to my home theater set-up.The only thing I really don't like is the remote, sometimes it is hard to understand! This is great starter dvd player,if your working on a budget, check this one out! I paid $219.00 at my local Circuit City store.
It also plays several different formats, which can be very useful to someone who makes there owns cds.

Excellent picture, matches my TV (Hitachi HDTV)

Weakness:

The remote sucks but who cares, I have a Pronto!

I originally bought one of these for my girlfriend and was so impressed that I bought one for myself. I bought both of them from Vanns.com and haven't had a problem with either. Make sure the disc's are clean before putting them in and you won't have a problem with skipping...

Strength:

Compulink, easy setup, multibrand remote, sound, picture, twin pick-up.

Weakness:

The remote could be smaller...Loading an audiocd takes sooooooo long before it actually begins to play !!!

Well, I'm quite happy with this product from JVC. I been quite a plague to my mrs. before I finally convinced her that DVD is the future media, and I really needed such a device...By the way - She's also impressed....

Okay - review..I've not encountered any malfunctions what so ever with this product. It's very reliable.

One thing though - The time it takes to load af CD..What gives...???? My 11 year old Sony CD-player loads a cd in about 2 seconds.

Another thing that bothers me is that it's not possible to enter the setup menu unless the drive is empty...

After all - as written before - I'm happy about the product and I certainly can recommend it...
