Strength:
Clear picture, great sound, cool picture search feature, all cords included for Dolby Digital 5.1
Weakness:
Poor reliability, too much trouble to keep, terrible manual. JVC was my first DVD player. The picure was clear, included an adjustment utility for the picture (softer, sharper, custom) and the sound rocked. But the player quickly began to freeze on DVD's and would only play certain DVD's. I took the problem disks to Circuit City and they played in the cheapest DVD player- but not on my JVC at home. So I took the player back. I bought another one and had the same problem. After some research I found that JVC has a freezing/not playing problem on all this model DVD players. The only fix is to unplug, plug in while pressing buttons and reset the memory. I tried this 3 times, then decided to return the player- it's just not worth this hassle. I now own a Pioneer and love it- the picture is just a sharp, the sound still rocks, and I've had no problems whatsoever. I can't believe the company can sell these players as is. I'll never buy JVC again. Similar Products Used: Sony S530 D, Toshiba 3109, Pioneer DVC 302D |

Strength:
Great remote and fun zoom feature. On screen menus well done.
Weakness:
Occasionally, I must open and close the DVD tray more than once before SOME DVDs' will begin reading. This is my second review of this unit. Again, I am very pleased with this JVC XV-D701 DVD player. Audio and Video are processed to my liking. The unit is very well constructed and looks nice, not over done. After paying $332 delivered at UBid/Youbit I can't demand any more. Strength:
Excellent sound and video, built in AC-3 decoder.
Weakness:
Relatively expensive This model has Coaxial digital outputs for PCM, Dolby Digital and DTS and a built in AC3 decoder. Video is sharp and artifact free. I have had no problems playing any disks, nor has the unit had problems syncing speech/video, etc. |

Strength:
Ease of Use. Good Graphical User Interface.
Weakness:
Mild pauses during VCD playback. Overall a very good value especially at current prices. I would definitely recommend this player for some entry to mid-level buyers. Similar Products Used: Panasonic A300 |

So far , I have found the 701 to be a great machine , especially for the price (Computability.com $329.95). No glitches yet. Also bought the A/V receiver 1028vbk from them $549.95; another steal especially when ubid.com starts bid on this at $607. |

I found the JVC XV-D701BK for $369 at theweb-shop.com (free shipping)but, it had two week back order. Could'nt wait; so I got it at ubid for $390. I've had the unit for about a week and can't find a bad thing to say about it. Set-up was fairly easy, remote is well thought out, no clicks or other irritating nosies are heard during playback. Love it. |

Strength:
price, picture quality
Weakness:
Big unit, CD-R compatibility Purchased from UBID for about $200. Lots of cool features, output options and a great picture. especially fond of the DTS and 3Dphonic sound. The a/v link is also handy with my JVC 8000 receiver, turns on and off automatically. The big disappointment is that all my CD-Rs do not play on this player. Please email me if you know how to get this to work. I don't really buy many CDs anymore and I was counting on this player to double as my main CD player. The manual says it does support CD-R format but I can't get it work. Haven't really owned it long enough to give it a bad review. Similar Products Used: Tosihba SD2107 |

Strength:
Plays good when it plays.
Weakness:
Very flaky and always breaks. I am in the same boat as some other posts here. I have a JVC TV I have been nothing but happy with however their DVD players leave something to be desired. |
