Weakness:

Low sound output

Like what everyone has said before me. The picture is great, the sound - Well. Here is where the JVC lacks some umph. You do need to turn the volume way up to get the full experience especially when using 3D phonic, but for the price that I paid for a multiple disc changer ($199- Sams Club) you can't cry and moan. I mean there are other cheaper multi disc changers out there, but I don't trust them. At least JVC has a name behind them. I have done almost a month of research on DVD players. Sony - too expensive for what you get, Samsung - Cheap a lot of problems, etc, etc, etc. Unless you want to pay over $900, your DVD player is only going to be as good as a used car, works great, but has a few scratches and dings. If you want the Mercedes, you are going to have to pay for it and I don't have the money to blow on Consumer Electronics. I am building a HT from scratch and it is getting expensive, so I have to skimp in certain areas. And as long as the JVC plays DVD's, has great picture, and CLEAN sound, then I can work with that.

Strength:

Despite what others have said, this unit will play cd-r's( at least it plays mine!!!)Nice picture, and feature's, 3-disc tray is great whether used for dvd or audio cd.

Weakness:

I will agree with other opions expressed here that the sound level is somewhat lower, just need to tweak it a bit. There is perhaps a little loss of detail in deep shadow area's, but this is somewhat subjective

I feel like that this is a very nice unit, considering the options and the price paid. All though this unit is still new and only time will tell about longeveity. I would have no reservations recomending it and it will play cd-r's, which for me at least, is a big plus!!

Strength:

Solid Construction, 3 trays, nice remote

Weakness:

volume difference when playing back DVDs, no CD-R support

When my Toshiba player died on me, I went looking for a new player on a limited budget. I bought a floor model Sony, got it home, and it had problems from the start...once I actually managed to get the tray open, I put in a DVD and tried to play it...and it wouldn't play, nor give the DVD back. I took it back to BestBuy and had them recover my DVD. I exchanged the Sony for JVC - I did pay a small price difference, but I am glad I did. My JVC 27" TV has performed flawlessly for years. The 3 trays is wonderful, as I can load movies so that my kids movies play first, and mine and my wifes movies play later in the evening - and I can change the titles without interrupting the current disc. Picture quality has been superb for everything I've thrown at it. Sound quality has been very good over PCM - I have to turn up the volume on my receiver about 10db from normal to get the same volume output. I have no complaints about performance at all. While I know there are a number of other players that are more feature rich, if what you want is to simply play DVD's with an occasional CD (no CD-R)
then this is a solid choice. It may not be the biggest or the best, but it does a good job of what the box says it does...play DVD's.

Strength:

3 disc changer, zoom, features, plays vcds, gold casing.. looks nice

Weakness:

doesn't play some vcds

definitely a fun item! threw in dvd on trey, cd on next, and vcd on the last. CD sounds blast louder than dvds though. picture's perfect, features are definitely fun to mess around with. Much better feeling than the samsung player I bought and returned.. only complaint is that I couldn't play one of my vcds for some reason. region coding? no way, my other vcds worked fine. Otherwise, a recommended purchase

Strength:

Conveniently plays multiple discs. Component video output. Optical digital output.

Weakness:

DVD audio is noticeably quieter than CD audio. Unit seems to stumble on certain DVD titles. Memory buffer isn't large enough to play through DVD layer transition.

Initially, I'd planned on an entire JVC setup (based primarily on my experience with JVC televisions). Honestly, I was too eager rebuild my HT system. The JVC XV-M567GD is, at best, a competent DVD player. It delivers a clear picture (component video even) and clear (albeit quiet) sound. But it only JUST does those things. The picture it delivers is clear as a function of the DVD format, not that this particular player is delivering the goods in way that's better than other players in its class or price range. The picture is sharper than my laserdiscs, but the sound of the laserdiscs is far more dynamic.

Being a HT enthusiast, I now look at my notion of building a JVC HT system as unwise. Not that JVC puts out bad products. They don't. But with a little more patience and research, one can find MUCH better crafted products out there at comparable prices.

I'd heard The Matrix DVD was problematic on certain (lessor?) DVD players. The Matrix plays fine on my JVC XV-M567GD. But the player seems to have problems with Hollowman and Galaxy Quest (which I just got today and put in for the first time just an hour ago). The Galaxy Quest DVD simply won't play without sound and picture distortion. I was so disappointed, I cut everything off and came here to vent.

Having the JVC XV-M567GD enables me to say I have a DVD player. But having since researched what other manufacturers are putting under the hoods of their DVD players, as well as talking to several HT professionals, I know I made a mistake in so hastily purchasing the JVC XV-M567GD.

The JVC XV-M567GD is fine as an entry-level DVD player, or as an, "I've got a DVD player" DVD player for someone who just wants to watch DVDs. But for someone like me (an enthusiast who wants to be emersed in the theatrical experience at home), the JVC XV-M567GD just doesn't cut the mustard.

Strength:

Build Quality, Value, 3-Tray set-up much nicer than carousel type, Remote, Picture & Sound Quality, many features

Weakness:

Picture becomes less sharp when zooming, Will not play CD-R's

I have had very good experiences with JVC products in the past, so I thought I'd give this DVD Player a shot. Once again, I was not disappointed. Excellent value. Its seems that JVC continues to lead the way in making high-quality affordable components.
The picture and sound are fantastic when paired with JVC RX-8000V A/V Controller. All DVD's that I've tried played flawlessly. The 3-tray system is superior (to me, anyway) than the carousel changers.
Consumer Reports stated that the XV-M555BK (a precursor to this model) lost detail during dark scenes. I have not noticed that with the XV-M567GD. I even compared it with a friend's Toshiba SD-1600 to be sure. The dark scenes on both units appeared to be identical.
The only letdowns I have with this unit is the loss in picture detail during zooming and it's inability to play CD-R's.
Remote is one of the best I've tried and the gold color is a nice contrast to all the black components out there.
All-in-all a very good choice for a first-time DVD buyer.
Highly recommend.
