Strength:
Very good performance 90% of the time; low profile; full featured remote
Weakness:
Badly designed interface; menus available only when stopped. Has slipped out of surround mode when changing layers more than once. A nicely styled, low profile unit with many features in this price range. Performance has been very good, the only flaw being a tendancy to slip out of surround mode when changing disc layers. Nice remote, but the interface is pretty ugly and confusing. Similar Products Used: Philips DVD 712 |

Strength:
Bang for buck is rather impressive. Lots of features for budget player.
Weakness:
No MP3 playing ability Was in the market for a low-priced player. The features offered on this player are excellent; the manual is well designed (and information easily found); and the slim-line size was pleasing with my system. Similar Products Used: Tosiba |

Strength:
Excellent price, especially for a brand name with all the features this player provides
Weakness:
Horrible VCD performance using CDR or CDRW; very finnicky with scratched discs This has a lot of great features for an entry-level player. Has all the basic features you can think of (other than MP3 support), including all the necessary output connectors. The remote is great, and the onscreen interface is pretty slick. |

Strength:
Lots of features for price
Weakness:
No MP3 support (If that's important to you), and problems with playback (See review summary) I don't know if my DVD Player is defective, it's a design flaw, or just not compatable with my Kenwood reciever. It doesn't happen all the time, but a lot of the time when skipping chapters, pausing the movie, or sometimes even on a layer change, I lose sound. The movie keeps playing, but no sound. Changing inputs on the reciever brings it back. I've tried using both the Co-ax and the optical connectors with the same problem. I tried a Sony DVD player to determine if it was the reciever's problem, but it's since worked flawlessly. Anyways, the JVC is going back. Similar Products Used: Sony, Kenwood |
