At this price none I purchased this unit (brand new) at a clearance sale. I have not played this unit much, since I am giving it to my parents. (I have only played the unit enough (about 1 hour) to ensure that it functions properly.) For a DVD player, I was quite impressed with music playback. This unit competes very well with CD players in the $200-$300 range: nice detail, warm sound qualities, really nice imaging for vocals. In fact, I have not heard an inexpensive CD player that is superior to this Marantz unit. In terms of video quality, it provides a nice sharp image. I found the colors of the images to be a bit brighter than I experience on my Toshiba unit, which I personally don't prefer. However, since I did not try to adjust this aspect of the Marantz's playback, this might not be a fair criticism. All-in-all, I was quite impressed with the unit. Similar Products Used: Toshiba |

Strength:
Looks, build quality, AV reproduction
Weakness:
Slow loading of DVDs and CDs. No Optical output. I have had a simlar experience as the first poster, with my DV3100. At first I thought I a couple of bad DVDs, as it is VERY RARE, but on 1 out of every 10 DVDs I throw in, I get some serious pausing and skipping so bad that I have to stop the movie or skip to the next scene. I have then played the same disc though my DVD on my pc as well as those of friends, w/o any problems. I can't help but wonder if this is a SW issue. |
