Strength:
Great Sound, makes a good transport. Vibra pods help but you have to but them under a pice of glass and put the DVD930 on top of that.
Weakness:
You may need to have the software updated by marantz if it won't play newer DVDs. You can't change the feet. Great overall player makes a good transport as well. If you have had one for awhile you might need to update your software. |

Strength:
Great..actually, excellent picture and audio quality for the cost. Its a shame that this model is discontinued, which means you can get a good price on it now.
Weakness:
In the wee hours of the night when all is dead quiet, you can hear the sound of the disc spinning which can be quiet annoying, especially when you cant turn the volume up too loud to wake the wife and mask the noise of the spinning disk. All in all, I would DEFINATELY reccommend this player to first time dvd owners interested in a high quality DVD player. Not to mention the 930 is a pleasure to just look at. Its a beauty! A friend of mine visited me recently and was in awe at the picture and sound quality of the 930 compared to ones he has seen and heard. By the way, he uses a Denon with twin 20bits D/A converters by Burr/Brown CD player and his main speakers are Dynaudios Esotar T330D and the LQ which is known to be one of the best sounding speakers. It is powered by the Audio Research tube amp the D-70 mkII with modified preamplifer stage and a servo-15 from paradigm...all monstar cables. As you can imagine, I value my friends opinion a lot when he tells me that the DVD930 truly brings the music to life. Similar Products Used: None. The DVD 930 is my first dvd player. |

Strength:
Audio. The only unit with an on-board dolby digital decoder that is of "audiophile" quality, for under $1000
Weakness:
Lightweight build I love this DVD player. I have it directly connected to an RBH 5 channel amp (each channel has a separate gain control), and an RBH sub with a built-in amp. The video quality is very nice. I have an older model Sony Trinitron TV with a 27" screen. The audio stage, in my opinion, is what really sets this unit apart. The Dolby Digital decoded sound that this player produces is flawless. I feel that the sound compares favorably with that of the $2700 Cal Audio player. My wife, who isn't a real fan of my stereo hobby, unabashadly enjoys watching a good DVD on the Marantz. Coupled with 5 RBH 661s and my RBH TS-12 Sub, I feel that my home theater audio beats the socks off of any theater audio system that I've heard. For the price that I paid for the Marantz ($750), I feel that it is a true audiphile bargain Similar Products Used: Pioneer, Mitsubishi, Meridian, CAL Audio |

Strength:
Audio, video, styling, ease of use.
Weakness:
None found yet. Incredible. Picture, sound and clarity overall were leaps above the Toshiba I was running before. I immediately noticed a crisper image and the sound quality increased. I have this DVD player paired with a DD Marantz SR-580 receiver and a full 6 speaker Paradigm surround sound package, my room now sounds better than ever before. Similar Products Used: None to date. (The Toshiba wasn't bad, but not in the same category as the Marantz) |

I've had the 930 for about a week and so far am very happy with it. My original intent was to purchase a demo of the Marantz 810, I figured I could get a steal since the 930 just came out. I knew I could live without DTS for a while, am more interested in music than the movies anyway, and didn't want to blow a lot on a DVD. I found one for $430 and almost bought it when at the last second I had to consider the overall improvements to the next generation 930. Some big factors were the component output, the upgrade to 24/96, and the overall refinement of optics, etc. The fact that it looked pretty cool and was brand new kinda swung me. The remote is also an improvement. It's not backlit but I don't care since I'll copy it onto a main remote. The picture like most DVD's is great, but I'd guess even better than most. The menu is very excellent, and so far no layer, DD- probs, shakes, weird screen anomalies, shut-offs, or any glitches At all. Chasis, drawer, and display are all solid. This machine could also be a more than respectable stand in on CD. The highs are transluscent and velvety, lows are tight and punchy. Atmosphere is smooth. Pretty good on scratched CD's but not all together that legendary. When it does skip it's annoying in that it doesn't just skip, it sometimes lets this huge crack out that would seriously make you weigh the pros and cons of hitchhiking, going away for the weekend with your village priest(weak joke, but I'm tired half asleep and still laughing for some reason), and choosing music, which relies heavily on the ability to hear, as the passion of choice. |

I originally had a Denon DVD-2500 as my home DVD player, until I decided that for the money I ought to have gotten a better quality unit. Marantz wasn't a brand I was comfortable with to begin with, since I had never owned anything by Marantz and knew nobody who did currently. Well, it blew the Denon out of the water. The main difference for me was the shadow detail and black levels. In scenes like the stealth ship wreckage at the end of Tomorrow Never Dies, most of the image detail would simply be lost in shadows and low light. No hint of edges, corners, etc. only black. Then, turn the black level on low for the Denon and everything is sort of blackish grey. Also, the letterboxing was jacked. No matter where I set the thing (as well as the brightness levels on my TV), I couldn't get a picture I was happy with. The Marantz fit the bill exactly, with no adjustment from the normal black level. Also, the menuing system is more detailed, and the unit seems somewhat more sturdily constructed. The remote on the Denon is nice, and has some features I prefer to the Marantz, but the Marantz gets the nod in this category too. CD sound is also very clear and crisp on the Marantz- I don't have the ear for detail that I would like to, they all sound really good to me! |

I expected better build quality for over 800.00 dollars, what a piece of sh**(all cheap plastic!!!!) Go check out the new Onkyo 525 for half the cost, it has more metal on it than the Marantz!!!!! Don't make the same mistake I did,it is no better than the Sony 330........... |

I have had my MarantzDVD930 for alomst 8 months now in find the picture superb. It is easy to set black level and it does a great job on no enhanced 16:9 letterbox.. The 96/24 converter or warm and detailed...Regarding the previous review I might add that that physical weight of the unit has nothing to do with what is in the electronics..that is what counts..Just go and what a DVD on it or play one of Chesky's new 96/24 series disc and you will see that this unit is well worth the money.... |

Strength:
Outstanding audio, video, ease of use I just purchased this unit and paired it with a Marantz SR8000 Reciever, Cardas Crosslink Interconects and B&W DM602 speakers. I couldn't be happier with the system. The DVD player produces absolutely beautiful music. I listen primarily via the analog output for music (changing the system setup to analog 2 channel in the DVD player). Soundstage was so dramatically improved that I thought I had picked up new speakers as well (had the 602's for some time now, but they truly are showing what they can do now). I'm not a huge home theater fan, but my family is....and it is definately spectacular. Of course, now I have to purchase better surround and center channel speakers... |

I have the 930 for about 6 mos now and it is wonderful.....the menues are complete and easy to use...the Pic quality is outstanding as are the foward and reverse modes on the remote...For CD it is suppurb...the 94/24 chesky cd are great...Just besure you set the marantz to anolog2ch from the audio set up ...this will out put full 96/24 at the mixed audio outputs and keep the dig bitsream at the dig jack...You cant get 96/24 any other way..you also should set your receiver to stereo direct when using the mixed audio outputs to be sure that you are not trunkating the 24bit to 20 bit that most receivers have in their DAC....this is a great machine.... |
