Strength:

Swiss Army like vesatility, solid construction, conservative power ratings, features, ease of use, and price! This is the second Onkyo receiver I've owned, and the second DVD I've purchased. I am a lifelong fan now.

Weakness:

Haven't found them. Although if one part goes tits up 366 days after my purchase date I'll be pissed.

Fantastic buy at the retail price, and the market is giving these things away.
I've been a fan of more "boutique" component brands over the last few years, but this is a very functional workhorse for someone who wants to get into home theater quickly, reasonably, and doesn't want to sacrifice stereo listening sound.
While you're on uBid pick up the Harman Kardon AVR 10 sub if you can, it's a steal.

Strength:

excellent sound and image quality

Weakness:

broke after 4 weeks of use, no customer service

I bought the DR-90 because it is a product of a well reputed audio manufacturer. Furthermore, I was impressed with its features and liked the fact to get a home theater receiver and a DVD player in a single unit as I have limited space to put a stereo system. I used the system with a surround sound speaker system and subwoofer from Cambridge Soundworks plus Mission front speakers. The resulting sound was truly outstanding. However, only four weeks after purchase the unit did not recognize any more CDs or DVDs. An Onkyo Service Center diagnosed the disk tracking system to be the problem.
I had the purchased the unit through the UBid auction website with the expressed term of 1 year manufacturer's warranty. Because the web-site is not an authorized dealer Onkyo reps were extremely unhelpful during phone calls. Nevertheless, a particular (Onkyo-authorized) service
center (which probably has an arrangement with UBid) is honoring the warranty. But now it turns out that I am supposed to wait more than 3 months until the service center
will receive the necessary part needed for the repair. Supposedly it is on back-order at Onkyo.
Needless to say, the Onkyo experience has been anything but pleasant. My unit was originally packaged for the US market and came with the US warranty card. One wonders how this merchandise ends up in unauthorized dealers' hands without Onkyo's knowledge. Furthermore, it is completely unacceptable that for a recent product (my unit was manufactured in July 2000) it should take more than three
months to perform a warranty repair. Other manufacturers would replace the unit under these circumstances. It might also signify that the unit in Onkyo's eyes is only a low end model of their product range and it therefore does not merit customer service. Whatever it may be, I have to seriously advice against buying this product.
There is a second review that describes the same experience at the E-opinions web page.

Strength:

Excellent DVD and good sound.

Weakness:

FM tuner lacks bass

No doubt this is a great value unit. I paid about $349 with shipping and it's worth every penny.
The DVD player is the strongest part. In my opinion FM tuner is not so good but for the price I could live with that.
My system still is not complete and I am using this unit along with pair of BIC DV62 speakers. Adding a subwoofer probably will improve the overall asessment.

Strength:

All in one package. Easy to hookup. Quality. Sound. PRICE, PRICE , PRICE

Weakness:

None that I have found. I wouldn't mind a little more power, but I am a power monger anyway.

I bid on this unit on U Bid.com for $329. Others got it for around $319. It is a great unit and saved me a ton of money by not getting the individual components. I hooked this unit to a 32" SONY Trinitron and a set of Polk M6600 satelites with the Polk PW450 powered sub. The whole system was reasonable in price and strong on performance. I have the system in a room that is 24' by 16' and it shakes not only the room but the whole house. The tuner is good with weak stations. The DVD is awsome. The unit plays CD's very well. There are enough fine adjustments to satisfy the audiophile, or you can plug and play if you want a simple hook-up. This is a must have for anyone wanting a home theater system without the price or effort of piecing together a component system. You won't be lacking in features by taking the easy way out on this one. With Dolby Digital/ Dolby 5.1/ and Dolby DTS you will probably have more features than your friends with a 2 year old top of the line componant system.
