Strength:
Constuction, overall quality Picture / Sound quality Cosmetic appearance "Onkyo" name
Weakness:
El Cheapo remote control Audio delay when using optical cable w/JVC receiver First unit purchase was defective right out of box The price is certainly right for a unit with this name and build quality. I purchased this unit about a month ago; it turned out to be defective as soon as I plugged it in. It made a horrible clunking sound when changing discs, and then proceeded to throw the disc around inside the unit, luckily landing back on the drawer. The second unit seems mostly flawless, except for a slight audio delay when changing scenes for about 3 seconds when connected with the optical cable. (this could be my 1999 JVC Digital Receiver). Picture and sound are excellent, but unit could use a better remote. Similar Products Used: JVC DVD changer Sony DVD changer |

Strength:
good clear picture
Weakness:
funny CD tray paid too much for brand name. Disappointed with ONKYO The CD tray started acting funny about 40 days after I bought this player. It would open half way or would not close completely. Took it back to circuit city and its almost a month since it is been sitting at the service centre. CC service personnel mentioned that ONKYO currently does not have the part in stock and I will basically have to wait whenever ONKYO decides to find a spare drive and ship the unit. |

Strength:
Price. Onkyo build quality. Decent video and sound quality. Looks, clean looking unit.
Weakness:
Remote Nothing else discovered yet. Plays everything but DVD audio and SACD but that's what my DV-SP800 is for. I have ran a couple movies and CD's through it now and it seem's to be a very decent player for the money. I have it connected via digital coax. The sound and picture and good for a player in this price range and would recommend it to anyone looking for an entry level CD/DVD changer. I basically got it to play the Kid's DVD's and use it for a CD changer and it serves that function well. The menu is easy and staight forward, but the remote is not so good the buttons are small and hard to find at times with no backlightiong to them. Weakness:
NEEDS GOLD PLATTED CONECTORS. the controller buttons are small, and the controller can use a upgrade but to save money they took the easiest way out. Great all around DVD player Similar Products Used: sony, toshiba, HK, Denon |

Weakness:
Remote controller On screen display Slow to "boot up" Digital output problems with Harmon Kardon receiver. The salesmen talked me into this model over the Sony DVP-NC655P as the Onkyo supposedly has "better optics" (even though it was about $20 cheaper than the Sony). Feature wise, it's lacking DVD-Audio support (which I don't anticipate using anytime soon), the remote is kind of chincy and my other remotes don't seem to support Onkyo DVD players. But more importantly, there appears to be a problem using the digital (optical) output into my Harmon Kardon receiver(AVR220). Whenever switching between chapters on the DVD or between inputs on the receiver, it takes up to 20 seconds for the audio to return. I never had this problem with my old Sony DVD player and so I will be returning this one ASAP. |
