Strength:
Great when it works. No bad points.
Weakness:
Doesnt work after a year. I was a Design Engineer for 13yrs for Panasonic and so am very reluctant to declare this DVD player a piece of worthless garbage ( now ). Unfortunately, my DVD has also given up wanting to play nearly any DVD. Once in a blue moon it will play one if it feels like. I have now purchased a new DVD player ( Panasonic DVD-S75EBS ) in the inane hope that it may outperform the last. Perhaps I have misplaced loyalties. |

Strength:
Works great for about a year
Weakness:
Stops working after about a year What a piece of junk! It worked great for a year. I loved it. But two months after the warrenty ran out it stopped reading some of my DVDs. It would just give a "No Play" message on it's display. Once I put in Harry Potter and watched half the movie. The next day, I got up and tried to watch the second half and it wouldn't read the DVD. This is a DVD I have watched loads of times. It stopped reading about half my DVDs. I promptly read some reviews on this model and I am not the only person running into this. Everyone loves the product...until it's about a year old then "No Play". Panasonic has no information about this on their web site. |

Strength:
Video/CD Quality, especially the video. Dependability.
Weakness:
Remote, No CD-R/CD-RW ?? capability. This was my first ever DVD player. I must say that I have been impressed with the Video Quality and the Audio Quality. I havn't had any problems with this unit and it has played every type of DVD available. Why others are having problems, is beyond me. I have always liked the dependable quality of Panasonic products. Has Component and S-Video outs and Exc. D/D circuits. I did wish that it was compatible with CD-R's but at the time of manufacture, that wasn't a big concern like it is now. A good player for a second room etc, and can be purchased for $50-$100 on internet auction sites. Remote leaves a little to be desired. Good Op manual. A great buy in today's used market. Strength:
Good value at the time Worked well for two years
Weakness:
Longer-term reliability with DVD playback Poor CDR support I bought this unit to get me into DVD while the industry made up its mind about standards and features. It was listed at $250 but I had a $100 coupon at some (now defunct) internet retailer so my cost was $150. It was meant to be a value player and for the most part, it held it''s end of the bargain. I use it exclusively for DVDs on a 32" Sony Wega. The picture quality is good enough but I''ll admit that I have no basis for comparison since the DVD format is waay better than VHS and Digital Cable, no matter what. Good point is that the unit did it''s job of playing DVDs (met my expecations) Bad Points: Never really could handle the occasional CDR and, more important, lately it''s become finicky and will sometimes refuse to recognize (and play) DVDs (some brand new). The lack of consistency suggests that the Laser Pickup is having trouble. I''m replacing it with a Toshiba sd5700 (another bargain player) that has DVD-A support (if I ever get around to building a system that can support it) and a progressive scan capability (for the day I get an HDTV capable monitor/projector). |

Strength:
Good Sound and Picture WHEN the disc plays
Weakness:
Defective Should be a class action law suit to get people their money back! This model was working perfectly fine until a last August ago. In fact the sound and picture quality was very good. Then, just as many people have complained, a few months after the one year parts warrenty exipired, the A-120 did not play half the DVDs that it used to play perfectly in the past. In fact, it wouldn''t play the disc I just played the day before!! Panasonic obviously knows by now that they sold a player with a defective optical pickup unit, but won''t fess up. (Just do a search of Panasonic A-120 DVD problems on yahoo or look at epinions. Customer Service denies anything is wrong! I have been a lifetime Panasonic owner of TVs, tape decks and VCRs, and the entire reputation of the company has just gone down the drain unless they corrct this situation. I will not be buying anymore Panasonic products and will lobby to get others to boycott their products. I am willing to go to the news media and consumer advocates and write letters to the VPs of Customer Service and the President himself to get my money back!! |

Strength:
Picture (When it works!)
Weakness:
Picture (When it doesn't work!) This is a piece of junk. It has the famous IC Servo Error Problem that Panasonic knew about but won't fix. It will not play any dvd that is over 2 hours long. Dvd will stop, the picture will pixelize, and finally the machine will shut down. This is a problem that kicks in after the warranty runs out. My new player will be the Pioneer DV333. Strength:
Picture quality, full-featured, bargain price
Weakness:
Remote, dull industrial design Picked this up a couple months ago for $199 mail-order through Value America using $100 free "Value Dollars". No problems with it all and I've now watched about 50 DVDs in it without any software glitches. Picture quality is great, on-par with a friend's 1st generation $1200 Sony DVD that was the original reference player for many magazine reviewers. Remote and product styling could be better, but for the price I can't really complain. Another good feature is the Panasonic's fast load, start and menu times relative to other DVD players I've tried. Layer shifts on discs that have them happen almost undetectably. |

Strength:
Easy To use interface, Dialogue enhancer, Bi-directional slow motion.
Weakness:
Very dim display. By chance i was able to compare this product the pioneer 525 in my home with DTS and D.Digital Movies. I recieved the panasonic in error instead of the pioneer. The Panasonic is a good performer, the sound is great, watched about 7 movies in 5 days without a problem, The dialogue enhancer feature was helpful but when you realise that you can increase your center channel volume from most decent recievers it really is a useless tool. The sound was flawless. The player looked pretty bland but the screen saver and GUI were pretty good. All this untill i recieved my correct order the pioneer 525, the picture on the pioneer blows the Panasonic away on all the discs i watched.(Matrix, Blade, replacement killers, jackal(dts),etc)the pioneer has much sharper pictures with better contrast. The player is visually more appealling although that is subjective. Similar Products Used: Pioneer 525 |
