Strength:

Excellent video & audio

Weakness:

Non that I have encountered

We purchased this unit in March 1999. It has been flawless. I have read other reviews concerning problems with discs over 2 hours in length, but have not experienced it. You do need to read the manual though. DTS is not enabled when you remove it from the box. You must enable it through the setup.

Strength:

great price, clean picture, good sound

Weakness:

sound is good but...

well, let me start of by saying, even though this is my own personal first DVD player, i have seen others in action to compare it to. Let me start off by saying that in its price class ($300 and below) i dont think it can be beat. It has all kinds of features you'd only find in higher price DVD players. The picture quality is good as is the sound but (my but from above) i do wish the sound were more powerful. More than likely i am nitpicking, but i do require sound that will blow me off my couch during an explosion or get my heart pumping during a suspensful scene. I do have a higher end audio system and i do suppose it is time to upgrade players, but for hte average viewer or a non-audiophile do not sleep on this one and go pick it up. On average the cost is $250. Unless you want to spend $500 - $1000, say hello to your new DVD unit.

Strength:

it's a dvd player

Weakness:

the remote control

My boyfriend has big ham hands and always starts a cussin' when he picks up the remote. Even when the remote is no more than a foot away from the player and pointed directly at it, it still doesn't work. It never works so I have to use the buttons on the actual player which is only play, so I've never been able to see the special features on some DVDs, you know what I mean?
But other than that it rocks!
I have a small tv and only use the composite output but it looks great. I have an Aiwa DD decoder with Bose HT speakers and the sound is earth-shakingly excellent.
I'm gonna try to change the batteries in the remote for the third time to see if it works now. But I doubt it.

Strength:

Easy to use. I had mine up in running in 10 minutes.

Weakness:

There is a learning curve on using the remote.

I'm quite surprised at the number of 'not so great' reviews for this DVD player. I don't require any advanced audio components to enjoy DVD's (like some folks). It simply plugs into my 28" TV (via RCA connectors) and WA LA! Beautiful, clear and sharp pictures come up on the screen. Like most will say, once you've gone DVD, there's no more VHS. Anyway, this unit is great. I've had NO problems with it and every DVD I've installed has worked flawlessly. Before I bought this unit, I scanned several newsgroups and found this player to be highly recommended. The price is great. If you're a simple person who needs a quick fix to DVD, then try to find this unit or a Panasonic model similar to it.

Great picture quality, Great Sound

Weakness:

crapy remote

I looked at all of the reviews for any thing under $500. This unit seemed to have the best reliability reviews. I have had the unit for about a month and have absolutly nothing to complain about( except the remote). I intentionly got the movie blade to see if I could reproduce the problem with the pixelation. Nothing wrong yet I think that this is a well built product and for the $240 bucks I spent on UBID.com really was worth it. I would recoment this player for any one on a budget. I have watched A total of 11 movies with no adverse affects. I did receive this through the mail so I don't know if the other post is entierly accurate about mail order.

I brought home an A120 Saturday 2/28 when they arrived at the Good Guys in Santa Clara. So far it looks like a good progression from the A100 and A110 that it replaces. (I had an A100 for the previous year.)
The main reason I replaced the A100 was to play DTS DVD's on my Sony ES receiver. But the unit is a good upgrade in several other areas. The slow and fast motion on movies is very nice. The remote control is much improved over the small A100 unit. I use my DVD player to play audio CD's as well, and I missed having good track control on my CD player. Well the 120 fixed that -- it has play modes that let you select a set of tracks, do repeat plays, and do random plays. You do have to turn on the TV to see the control displays.

I won't be making use of the coax digital out, or the component video out, and I don't yet have any audio DVD's encoded in 96 khz linear PCM, but I'm eager to find some. The Virtual Surround Sound feature is good too, but I won't be using it, having 5.1 decode.

I got this DVD-A120 just a few days ago for $300 delivered to my door. It's got new nice features compared to the A110. I especially like the dialogue enhancer
and chapter preview. It also plays music much better than regular CD players. I think it is the best deal for the money. If you want to know where to get it, please email me.

This player worked great for almost a year. The first disk (rental) it ever played was the Matrix and it was perfect. Loved the movie so much I even went out and bought a copy. Watched it several more times without any trouble. A year later pop in the Matrix and get "This type of disk not supported" something to that effect. Went to Blockbuster rented another copy, same thing. Rented Me, Myself and Irene, same problem. This player stinks! I have read at least 50 posts on Deja reporting the same problem. I called Panasonic Support and they had me reinitialize the player by pressing a series of buttons. This fixed nothing. If you're thinking about buying this unit, think again. I'm sorry I did.

Superb picture quality. Reliability. Quiet drive mechanism. Crisp audio with digital optical connector. Also has Digital coaxial connector.

Does not play CD-R

Good price/performance. I have never encountered a single issue with this machine. Works flawlessly and delivers good audio too. Only drawback is that it does not play CD-R.

I did some research before buying and this unit was an outstanding choice. The price and what you get is an outstanding deal. I'm in the market now for my receiver and I will do the same as before, check this site and listen to you guys. I have my eyes wide open now for an Onkyo 777 receiver.

If you want a DVD with out all the fancy stuff and a great performance out of it, this is the unit to get.
