Strength:
Very good picture and sound. I have been using this for a few weeks and am very happy. All my DVDs are running smooth and I have yet to run into a problem with anything. The sound is very clear and vibrant. |

Strength:
Easy to set-up and use. Variable speed fast forward and reverse make it extremely easy to find the scene you want. I have played 50+ DVDs with no tracking problems. Overall I liked it much better than the Pioneer 414, especially in the fast forward and reverse modes. The Pioneer's remote is illogically laid out and difficult to use.
Weakness:
Small buttons on remote. I would highly recommend this product. Similar Products Used: Pioneer 414 |

Strength:
great player for the price, has served me well
Weakness:
remote could have better layout and bigger buttons This has been my first DVD player and I have been very satisfied. Probably the best player for under $300. |

Strength:
Good quality DTS and DD. Never had problems with disc formats unlike others I have owned.
Weakness:
Very light, makes you feel unsure that there's even anything inside. Overall for the price (around $280) you really can't beat the deal you get for DD and DTS. It's fast loading and has coax and optical outputs. Similar Products Used: Zenith DVD (Crap) |

Strength:
Quick Start, Virtual Surround Sound, Great Picture, Easy to Use
Weakness:
Small Buttons on remote I have had this player for about sixth months and have been very pleased with it. I have it hooked up to my Panasonic Superflat tv via a monster s-video cable. The picture looks great and I am have a very critical eye when it comes to video quality. I work as a video editor for ESPN. The sound hooked up through my Yamaha Dolby Digital receiver with Mirage speakers and sounds great. Before I got the surround sound system though...I used the virtual surround and it sounded pretty good. I would highly recommend this player for anyone's home theater. |

I've had the A120 about two weeks along with the Yamaha RX-V2095, both of which I got from Uncles Stereo M/O. Paid $299.00 for the player and so far it is working well. I'm using the optical digital out and also the S-video out to the receiver. Not sure if I should also use the Coaxial Digital out or even if your allowed to have both connected at the same time. The manual just says either or. The sound and picture are great even through my mixed set of speakers, no sub yet. I also considered the Sony 7700 but that was alot of cash for just a player. The A120 has DD and DTS and that was the main feature I was looking for as most reviews i've seen give good marks to all DVD picture quality. |

I see remarks in some of the other reviews about pixelation problems, which I too have experienced with the A120, always on rental DVDs. I thought it was scratches, etc. so I didn't give it too much thought, but now I'm a little concerned. I'm not going to split hairs about the construction quality of the player, what do you expect for 300 bucks? In my opinion, this is a great DVD player, and serves as a decent transport for an external DAC in my audio system. And I could care less what it looks like. But if there are other folks experiencing these playback problems, I'd love to know about it, because I would want to get a replacement from Panasonic while I'm still under warranty. One thing I tried, and this might have made a difference... I mucked around with the digital audio output options (turned off the 96K LPCM ability) and I have not seen the pixelation problem since. I wonder if anyone else can confirm this. Three Stars for the reliability problems. |

I purchased 1 week ago from Best Buy for $349. Not the best price I could find but they include 5 free movies and 8 free rentals. Granted most of the freebies aren't ones I would buy but oh well..... I compared the Toshiba 2109, Sony 530 and this A120. I don't care much about cosmetics so I'll leave that to others. All performed well but didn't like the lack of outputs on 2109. Picture on all three was good but there was a rich, smooth texture to the A120 that the others didn't seem to match. I have read some calling certain players too "digital looking" while others are filtered too much. maybe thats what I was seeing; all the detail, sharpness and color saturation I would want but w/o unusual "edginess" or "digital grain". I have played 6-7 discs and have NOT noticed 1 single video or audio problem. I am using the S jack with Pro-Logic right now (DD is next...). The Sony offered a few more features but none that made any visual difference (and it was more expensive). PS, if you do buy the Sony they are offering 10 free rentals from Netflix.... |

Strength:
Supports DD and DTS, good audio CD output
Weakness:
problems with DTS We've had this player since summer 1999, and I've been very happy with it. Very good picture, and works well as a CD player too. Now that I finally have a DD/DTS receiver I can really appreciate the sound. I've been having problems getting DTS movies to be recognized by the receiver (Harman Kardon AVR 7000), but in reading the posts it looks like I need to configure the player. Can't wait to get home and try it out!! |

Strength:
Decent array of features Have owned this unit for 14 months, and it performed flawlessly, no problems with a wide variety of disks. But just recently, it plays the last half of Shadowlands with extreme breakup of the picture and sound. Neither of my computer dvd players have a problem with this disk. It also broke up, but only for about five minutes, with a section of Antonia's Line. Question: do these localized problems suggest further problems, enough to send out the unit? Or should I keep it running until I see more problems? |
