Strength:

Built in Dolby Digital Decoder, Excellent Remote, Connectivity , All around features

Weakness:

Lack of DTS decoder, Non-Progressive Scan Model.

Overall I would rate this one of the First top-of-the-line DVD players around. If anyone's looking for an excellent player and don't mind finding one used this would be a great investment for you...

Strength:

DD, DTS builtin decoders, jog selector, style

Weakness:

Bad lasers, bad servo arms, outdated firmware, poor service, poor quality control

I was one one the early purchasers (Sept 1998) of these units.

So far, thanks to my dealer, Panasonic has twice upgraded the Firmware due to pixelazation (Zorro and others), replaced the laser assembly (twice) and the servo arm once.

The total time AWAY for repairs was over four months. Total cost to me was $0.00. Yes, I was one of the lucky ones and that is probably 99% due to the dealership that I have a great relationship with! They fought with Panasonic to get it covered under warranty.

I provided tons of printouts about the firmware and laser replacemets that others had done with their RMA numbers and the evidence was over whelming.

It is relegated to the third tv room now where it may get four hours usage every third month, but it is still running.

Panasonic should have offered a free replacement or money back to ANYONE who purchased an A310 or an A110.

Strength:

Any initial product strengths now voided by Panasonic Co.

Weakness:

See hundreds of reports here and elsewhere.

It is a foregone conclusion that the A310 is *not* a player deserving of praise. It is instead an over-priced defect which will haunt (and hurt) Panasonic for years to come--angry customers do not forget quickly The number of complaints submitted to Panasonic within the past 2 years and the number of replacement petitions filed since last year is, collectively, in the thousands.

It is the people who still own and can use this player on a regular basis who are the minority. Deal with it, select few, you are either embarrassed to report your problems (and instead downplay them), or you cannot accept that you were simply lucky.

By the way, I must agree with the post below asserting that Charles is a moron. Moron isn't just a convenient label here; he truly IS stupid. He has now demonstrated this stupidty twice: first when he tried to dimiss the evidence before him, and again when he exposed his failed high-school education. Submit a series of "3s" so as not to skew the results? Now THAT is funny!

Chuck, stay away from moderately sophisticated situations; we still need people to work at McDonald's.

Reliable Performer

Weakness:

Remote has to be pointed directly at the player

Wow! Has this player gotten bad reviews. I am always unlucky when it comes to buying electronics but this is the one piece that has performed flawlessly since I bought it in 98. I have yet to have a DVD disc fail to play perfectly. I have never noticed any pixellation or have it misbehave in any way. I think it was assembled on Tuesday or Wednesday maybe. You know when all of those workers have gotten off their sokie hangover! It is typical that people would have problems with customer service or is it customer dis-service. But most of the reviewers are right, treat them with respect and you will get a lot further. The old "get more flies with honey" applies. My condolances to those who were not lucky.

Strength:

Pretty good when it worked.

Weakness:

Same problem as others.

I posted before about the my problem just like everyone else and I'm posting again to cancel out positive comment made about this rip off of a player.

Paid $500. back in 98 for this crap. Cost $233.53(includes shipping)to get this fixed after little over a year. Only good thing is that I used VISA which extended my warrenty and they refunded me $117.68 towards the repair.

I will never buy Panasonic again.

Strength:

4 years of great pictures and sound. Only now am I thinking of upgrading to prog scan

Weakness:

A lot of whiners bought it

In a previous post I suggested that some of the other posts were fakes. I stand by this. I have used this machine for 4 years without any difficulty. Perhaps those with problems have been trying to stuff their false teeth into it.

Panasonic is a great company. Why else would the camelot $5000 player use the 310 as a base. Shame on those with nothing better to do then whine.I will post 3 stars so as not to skew the socalled rating.....

TOO MANY TO LIST

I purchased the Panasonic DVD-310 over two years ago. Luckily for me, I purchased an additional warranty through SoundTrack. This particular unit played exceptionally well for about a year. I bought it thinking I had purchased one of the best DVD players on the market. Boy, was I ever wrong. Like everyone else, it first started by casually telling me that it wasn't able to read the disk...this happened primarily with brand new DVD's. After that, it started to box up the screen, freeze, and make awkward buzzing noises. So, I sent it back to SoundTrack to get it fixed (At this time, I thought it was just my DVD player). I got it back about two months later, and it worked perfectly. I thought my troubles were finally over. about 8 months later, it started again. The screen started to box up and freeze. New things were going wrong too! Sometimes it would play, but the screen would be completely black. You could hear it, but not see it. Also, it didn't play CD's anymore, and the DTS output, well, I guess that never worked!! By this time, I had moved to a different state, so I took it, under warantee, to get it fixed again. I got it back about two months later. I was excited to see how well it worked. I took it home, plugged it in...and from the get go, it didn't work properly. I was livid. So, I sent it back to SoundTrack to get it fixed for the THIRD TIME!!!! This time however, I demanded that it be replaced. This piece of equipment can not be fixed...not once, not twice, and especially not a third time. I contacted the President of SoundTrack by letter, and I should be receiving a new DVD player shortly...and IT'S NOT GOING TO BE PANASONIC. There is absolutely no way Panasonic will win my patronage again. If I could advise anyone on purchasing DVD players, DO NOT BUY PANASONIC.

Strength:

picture good, music decent

Weakness:

slow to start playing CDs

I have been lucky so far and the unit has not quit on me. It plays DVDs fine. CDs sound good and fairly musical though the player is slow to begin playing them.

In light of all the problems everybody else is experiencing, I may try to sell mine before it craps out and would never buy another Panasonic player again.
