Strength:
Great Video and Audio. Plays CD-RWs. Plays all my DVDs.
Weakness:
None that I can think of. After over two years of heavy usage, the A320 continues to perform without a glitch. I have had absolutely no problems with any of my almost 300 DVDs. The few that did mistrack were defective and their replacements played perfectly. The video and audio from this DVD player is excellent. In addition, contrary to what some other reviewers wrote, the A320 does play CD-RWs. I recently purchased a CD recorder and decided to try a CD-RW I had just finalized. To my amazement, it played perfectly. It is too bad that some others who owned this DVD player had problems, but mine is going strong and I expect it to keep on doing so. Strength:
Excellent DVD AC-3 player, (when it reads)
Weakness:
Problem reading disks!!!!!! Wow I have read mony reviews on this DVD player, and everyone is right. HARD time reading disks! I do not use mine that much, but just on the last few months, It has a problem reading disks, where I have to open and close tray many times for it to read, even on BRAND new store bought disks! When it does play though it is an top flight DVD player, and the DTS works flawlessly. I am thinking about upgrading to a Denon Top Flight Player, and let this one go. Strength:
Excellent picture quality, ease of setup, S-video output, enhanced center channel audio
Weakness:
User manual I've had my DVD for a little over three months now and bought it to replace an older VCR. I was stunned at the difference in picture and sound quality - absolutely no comparison - even using the television speakers for sound reproduction. I am totally sold on the DVD format - and don't miss the ability to record programs (something I seldom did anyway - and hardly ever managed to watch what I'd recorded in the first place). I do believe the Owner's Manual could have been laid out better - and made a little clearer in order to help the consumer - but I'm managing to muddle through. I purchased mine through AudioExcellence for $349 - then bought one for my son from them since I was so pleased with mine. |

Strength:
Excellent picture quality, Handy remote, built-in DTS & Dolby digital Decoders
Weakness:
Playing Audio CDs Got a great deal at shopping.com in december ($256 delivered). I have played almost 150 movies so far and havn't had any problems at all with this unit. No lip syncing problems like the Sonys. If Matrix is the test DVD, then it plays flawless. I have played 3 indian movies (each movie is approximately 2.5 hours long) at once and have had no problems with the unit heating up or anything like that. Similar Products Used: Toshiba SD-3109 |

Remote, built in decoders, color/contrast settings, build quality, speed, ergonomics, can pass 96 24 digital signal and supports discrete on off codes.
Weakness:
none found I owned the Toshiba 2109 for several months before growing tired of the downconversion artifacts and the lack of discrete codes for my pronto. I first tried the Pioneer 525 since it had a nice picture and passed the 96 24 signal through its digital connections to my Denon 3300 for Chesky CD's. I soon returned the Pioneer due to the transport noise..its really loud. Next i tried the new Sony 360 but its build quality was sub par and the image was too soft for my likeing. So I picked up a Pannasonic A320 and I'm finally happy (and thats saying something as I can get picky) What I like about the A320 is its ability to produce a sharp artifact free image that rivals that of the higher priced DVD players. The remote is decent too though I never use it since I have a pronto. On that note the Panasonics support discrete on and off codes so that comes in very handy when programing Pronto's. The ability to pass the 96 24 signal digitally is a real bonus since it allows people to use thier receivers DAC's to listen to Chesky titles in thier full glory. I've only got two 96 24 CD's but they both sound stellar. I know several people that are using this unit as a transport for an external DAC with great results. All in all I'm happy with this unit. Strength:
DTS and DD decoders onboard, fantastic picture quality/sound quality and some neat features
Weakness:
Little things missing - zoom, etc - but no big deal. A marvelous mid-range player that I've found wonderful to use. The DTS decoder works very well - it fires up when you insert a DTS DVD or CD. I've listened to the "Titanic" soundtrack DTS CD and a few DVD titles, and the sound quality really is beautiful. The DD decoder sounds first-rate, as well. Strength:
DTS/DD decoder. Cool remote.
Weakness:
Failed to play: MATRIX, HEAT, RONIN. Excessive pixelation, not nearly the image quality one one expect in a $450 player. Returning it after only trying 4 movies. Very, Very disappointing. Panasonic makes great TV's, but I'd suggest that you listen to all of the other negative comments people have to say about thier DVD players. I, for one, had a very dissapointing out-of-box experience with this player. Back to the drawing boards, time to find a decent brand. Stay away from this player. Panasonic is risking their reputation selling this crap. Similar Products Used: Toshiba SD2109 |
