Weakness:

Only plays DVD & audio CD's

I 've had the Panasonic DVD RV-30 for over 3 years now, and it plays great. It was a B-Day gift so i didn't have the nerve to return it for one that can play multiple CD formats. So no CD-R's on this DVD player, and lets face it, "everybody burns em and plays em". That is the only inconvenience of Panasonic's DVD Player RV 30.

Strength:

Ease of use, great picture

Weakness:

None that I can think of.

I purchased this DVD player back in September of 2000. So far, it has been really reliable, and displays an excellent picture. It's a straight-forward player, without a lot of bells & whistles, which I like very much. The assembly is solid, and it's one of the last DVD players that was made in Japan. I am hoping to get a lot of years out of it, but then again, the electronics today don't seem to be made to last more than 7 years, but maybe I will be lucky.

Strength:

Great pictue while it lasts.

Weakness:

It doesn't last.

After less than two years of very light usage (probably used 10 times in that time frame), my Panasonic DVD player no longer plays in color. The picture is black and white. THE SAME DAMN THING HAPPENED WITH MY PANASONIC VCR! This is the last Panasonic product I will ever buy.

Strength:

Many features. Good picture while it worked. Now great CD player!

Weakness:

Died after 8 months under very light use.

This is for the RV31, purchased in 12/01. It started having problems in June. Started getting a scrambled pixeled picture every so often. Thought it was dirty disk or dust built up in the unit. Then in August I got a "cannot read file format" message and it would eject the disk. I opened it up to clean and unplugged/replugged a few connectors. Worked for a while but now stopped again. Now it will only play CD's. Thought it would last like their VCRs but guess not.

I have had the Panasonic RV30 for over two years now and up until now it has worked great. But after the last couple of dvd purchases, I too am experiencing pixelation. At first I thought it was faulty dvds, but after reading these reviews and other sites I have to conclude its the player. I suppose these days electronic equipment should be considered disposable merchandise. I guess I should start my research for my next dvd player (NOT Panasonic) by reading these reviews . And look for longevity in a company's product

Strength:

Sound and picture: top notch

Weakness:

no cdrw, mp3...

Have had no real problems yet...Out of the hundreds of discs I've used, about 3 froze up and one pixellated. About a week ago, the picture went all black and white on me just like another reviewer stated. BUT, resetting the machine and unplugging solved all of these problems. I just dont understand why so many negative reviews on the RV-30?? I would like to know if other people using this product (RV-30) have similar sentiments. I feel that a few bad discs/player experiences out of a hundred is not worth harping about. But, that's just my opinion...I hope no further/permanent problems develop.. it did run me around 220$

Strength:

EXCELLENT video graphics!

Weakness:

unable to play cdr's, cdrw's or mp3's for the price.

I've had the panasonic DVD-RV30 for over 24months, without any problems at all. except, for a slight pause when changing scenes, and that only happens once in the movie, as if it could use more RAM, and the pause is a milisec. long.

Strength:

Worked great for 18 months.

Weakness:

Stopped working after 18 months.

I wrote a good review of this product just over a year ago. I''''m revising that review seriously DOWNWARD. I''''m not a "heavy" user of the machine, but after having it just 18 months, it froze up on me. I got a "locked" message on the display, and couldn''''t get the drawer to open. I went through the "reinitialize" routine in the manual, tried turning it off, then on, unplugging it - no joy. The display will show "open" when I try to open it up, but the drawer stays closed. Won''''t play, won''''t do anything. And with a rental DVD inside! (Had to open it up to get the disc out so I could return it.) This is why Panasonic only offers 3 months of full warranty, and one year on parts - they know the systems they make today are disposable. Panasonic told me I could send it in to them for non-warranty repair, but they''''d charge me $25 just to look at it. Factoring in shipping both ways, and considering what DVD player repairs seem to be going for, I suspect I''''ll be better off just buying a replacement. This problem seems to have some similarities with the Sony 560 player...I wonder if they used similar components. I''''m not at all happy with this unit. (Insert long string of profanity here.)

Strength:

Low price, slim profile, good performance.

Weakness:

Short lifespan.

Drastically downgrading my original review. I''ve used this player for about 18 months now, and it broke. Simply put, there is no video output, no audio output, and I had to dismantle the case to remove a rental DVD. These things really should last longer than 1 1/2 years. I guess there''s a reason why Panasonic only gives a 90 day labor/1 year parts warranty.
