This is for DVD-RV31k.

This is my first DVD player and I could not be more happy.

I would also like to thank AudioReivew.com. I have learned so much from this site. I believe that consumer review/feedback is the invaluable when making a buying decision. I was leaning toward the Sony DVP-S360. I'm glad I didnt.......those reviews are horrifying!

I would recommend this DVD-RV31k to anyone who wants a all around solid DVD player.

Strength:

Picture clarity, audio quality, remote.

Weakness:

It refuses to do the dishes!

This review is for the DVD-RV31 model.

This is my first DVD player and I am very satisfied with my purchase.

Thank you Audioreview for an excellent website! I based my decision to purchase this model on the opinions of the end user rather than so-called "experts".

Set up takes all of two minutes right out of the box, The unit loads quickly and is very quiet. Picture clarity and audio quality are excellent. I have not tried mp-3's yet but to date, everything is running perfectly.

Future shop were very happy to beat Soundsaround's price. I wouldn't buy a package of batteries from Soundsaround!!! No refund policy, exchanges only subject to "restocking charges". Bring in Soundsaround's ads to any reasonable Canadian electornics retailer. You'll get the best of both worlds...Price AND hassle-free service!!!

Price and Features (provided it works like it did during the first few weeks of ownership)

This review is for the DVD-R31.

This is my first DVD player. I've owned it for only two months. The first 7 weeks, it played beautifully. However, for the last week, practically every disc I use (whether brand new or rented!) freezes, pixellates and hangs. I've already emailed Panasonic with my problem, but after reading the postings on this website regarding the DVD-R31 (coupled with the horrendous issues I saw posted for Panasonic's A110 DVD unit), it seems that perhaps my best bet is to return the unit to Best Buy (no pun intended) while it's still under warranty.

DVD-RV30

Got it for christmas, in 2000, i think it's nice and I like it just as much as when i first got it, it is a little outdated, with MP3 and CD/RW decoding, but the digital out works good with my system. I've had no problems espicially since it doesn't have the chroma bug (A bug in most DVD players, which deducts red and blue color contrast, throwing color off-balance. Nice features tough, I'd reccomend it.

Strength:

Easy setup - Nice picture and sound.

Weakness:

CD's skip when I play them loud

Anyone experience skipping CD's that seems to be related to how loud they are playing? Any suggestions?

Other than that, very nice unit. However, I can now create CDR's but the RV30 does not play them.

Thanks, Mike

Strength:

Inexpensive, good image quality.

Weakness:

Weak sound signal in Dolby Pro-Logic

Just a quick bit of advice for those who wish to have great CD audio playback. Not wanting to spend a fortune to upgrade my old Pioneer CD player I bougth the RV31k in order to kill two birds with one stone. While I find the DVD audio adequate, I am less than happy with CD playback. So, I bought an MSB link DAC III. Fabulous!!! This little player makes a very good transport. Can't compare to the very high end of course but if you want beautifully detailed sound without edginess, team this DAC with your cheap DVD player.

I have it hooked up to a Nakamichi A/V receiver and JMLab Megane Carrat speakers with Van Den Hull cabling.

This is a wonderful solution for some very palatable audio on the cheap! All told I paid $785.00 canadian for the two peices.

Strength:

Great picture, audio, and features (for the first year).

Weakness:

Color no longer works, both video and S-video.

Most of the reviews of this player are from those who have had the product 1-3 months. The following might make you think twice about purchasing the RV30 or the newer RV31(MP3). If anyone has encountered this problem before or know of a fix, please let me know.

I bought the Panasonic DVD-RV30 based on the reviews from this website over a year ago and have used it less than 50 times. Last night, while watching the Sopranos, I was mid-way through the second episode when the color started flickering and turned to full black and white in less than a minute. I checked the S-video cable and switched it out with a normal video cable, same black and white screen. Even when the DVD player has no disc in the tray, the default "DVD Video" screen is black and white. I called Panasonic and they told me that since I had tested both types of video connections and my TV was not at fault, the "video processor" in the DVD player had gone bad. I inquired about the warranty, but I was way past the 1 year parts, 90 days labor so they told me that I would have to take it to a repair technician. After learning that the closest facility was 30 miles south of downtown Chicago, I called to see if it was even worth bringing the DVD player in. The tech told me that my situation could be a number of things, but the average cost of a DVD repair is over $100. Considering the player was only $150, I think it might be time to buy a new one, definitely not Panasonic.

Strength:

Great value, sharp picture with Panasonic TV, new models play CD-RW and mp3. Attractive casing. Remote nicely laid out.

Weakness:

Remote not back-lit. My old RV30 model doesn't play CD-R/W or MP3. No zoom.

I got this almost a year ago, it's an old model and doesn't play CD-R/W or MP3.

The picture looks very sharp with my Panasonic CT27D10 TV, very detailed. Sounds great when hooked up with my Pioneer VSX-D409 receiver and Wharfedale Modus 5 speaker set. My economical home theater only cost me $800 and looks and sounds great. I've watched well over 50 DVD's with it now and not a single problem yet. Gotta love the sound from DTS DVD's. You gotta change the DTS setting, of course.

I actually like the remote, unlike many users. I just the buttons were back-lit so you can see them clearly when watching dvd's in the dark.

It's missing some features which, at this price, is expected. If you have some cash, get the Panasonic DVD-RP91, that has everything you'll ever need: Progressive scan, DVD-Audio, aspect-ratio control, zoom, etc., or just RP56 if you want progressive scan but not other features. Since I only have a regular TV and don't plan on buying DVD-A's, zoom is the only feature I'm missing.

Strength:

MP3 compatibility, Picture quality, optical output.

Weakness:

No title display for MP3, features pretty useless (VSS, diag. enhancement, etc.)

Very good unit for the price, what really sold me that unit is the MP3 feature. Sometimes I notice a little pause when playing a movie, like a second or less but not really bothering. I'm wonderting when using the Optical output and playing MP3 or CD music what king of signal is sent to the a/v receiver? The music is decode by the DVD?

Strength:

Very Good picture, and sound. This is the RV31 MODEL

Weakness:

No screen saver, wish remote was illuminated.

I love it, of course I had to go through 3 Hitachi 415's to get this one. I'm running this unit with my kenwood 509 reciever, energy satellites for fronts, a sony centre and rears, and an Energy sub woofer, Let's just say Gladiator, scene two is shown to everbody who comes into my place. Oh ya, my video is the brand new Hitachi 53Udx digital HDTV.
In one word, WICKED. This tv will show flaws of any player to be had.
