Strength:

works flawlessly. quiet. extra features for non digital sound setup. component outputs.

Weakness:

no backlit remote.

i wanted an entry level dvd player that would not give me any problems with quality or reliability. the sony and toshiba were both nice and they all came it at around 250 bucks. i bought the panasonic player due to other reviews on this site, and i have not regretted it.
this player has all the features anyone looking for a first player would want. all dvd's played flawlessly and quietly. they load up suprisingly fast on this player. the player itself is nice and thin, with a rather plain appearance. very spartan. does the job well. a real bargain.

Strength:

Picture quality, sound quality, fast scan, fast start

Weakness:

none

This is by far the best DVD player I've ever watched movies on . the picture and colors are phenominal! Sound quality on cd & DVD are exceptional. The clear fast scan is just that very clear no pixelization at all. Movies start almost instantly, nice feature, my JVC took 10 seconds to read the DVDS. No bugs plays discs that previous player used to skip or long pauses in layer switches, none of that with this unit. Feels light, but sturdy, definetly not as light or as cheap feeling as pioneer 333. I looked at that unit but did not have very clear fast foreward or reverse, and only one speed about 30X. Did not like cheasy amber LED on pioneer. Panasonic has 20, 40, 60, 80, 100 X foreward & reverse crystal clear. Actually side by side the picture the panasonic RV30 picture looks visibly more vibrandt and clearer than the pioneer 333.

Best part it is only around 225.00 for seemingly reference quality DVD player!! Hats off to panasonic!!

Strength:

(1) Picture quality (sharpness, color, etc..), search, and still
(2) Audio quality

Weakness:

Lacks some features found on more expensive models

When I compared this player to others in the same price range (up to $300), there really was no comparison. This unit displays a better picture, has better audio, and looks better than the others.

This is my first experience with a DVD player and I spent several weeks researching and comparing players that fell within my budget. In my opinion, there are no real challengers to the Panasonic DVD R30 at less than $300.

A great budget player!

Strength:

Video quality. Audio quality. Size. Price.

Weakness:

User interface could be easier to decipher.

I bought the Onkyo (B-stock for $300), but only because of a better warranty, user interface and it was a little sturdier. If I had to pay $400, I would have bought the RV30 with little hesitation. The video was fantastic, even on still and slow mo. The audio was very good as well. I've heard this unit doesn't play CD-R(W), but I heard the same about the Integra and it does play certain brands. I didn't try it on the RV30. If you are looking for an excellent entry-level player, this may be the one. It competes with players in the next price range. It has all the connections you need. I would highly recommend checking this machine out.

at $98...come on

I am more an audiophile than a video expert. But that is the point of this review. Everyone else has commented on the excellent picture - and I agree. But it was the sound of this player on CDs that shocked me! I have been using the Marantz CD63MKII CD player for several years now. It is a highly regarded audiophile player. Of course, newer CD players of that caliber have better processors and such, but it is still a great performer. I popped a CD in the Panasonic DVD and...WOW! Greatly improved impact, detail, soundstaging and clarity. It was a little thinner and maybe a little harsher but...WOW! So I placed 4 Audioquest sorbothane CD footers under the DVD player and that completely took care of the thinness and slight harshness. The only thing that I like about the Marantz now is it definitely has better recovery of the ambiance and reverberations and is a little more "analog" like in its sound. What this tells me is that it is time to look for a new CD player that incorporates the 24/96 conversion system like DVD players do. But, I have heard CDs on other DVD players that have sounded like crap. So, not only is the Panasonic DVD-RV30 a great DVD player - it is a shockingly good CD player, too (with some sorbothane footers underneath). To all you other audiophiles out there, drop the pretense and give this a try - this is what audio is all about - fun and being surprised by a $98 DVD player (after multiple rebates, of course, but even at an average price of $200 you can't go wrong).

Strength:

A very sharp picture, and easy to use functions.

Weakness:

The volume has to be substantially increased to acquire a desirable listening level.

I am very impressed with the clairity of the picture. It is very simple to operate, and even easier to set up. The only flaw I have encountered is in the volume. But from what I am told it is very common to have to increase the volume to acquire an adequate listening level. A problem I have solved with an introduction of an equalizer to boost the output level. Now my reciever isn't required to have the volume turned in the eleven o'clock position to view a DVD movie. Overall, I would recommend this product to anyone interested in purchasing a quality product at an afforable price. Right now there is a fifty dollar rebate offered by Panasonic, so it can be attained for a very reasonable price. It is a fine product.

Strength:

Great picture, not a skip to date. Very quiet, easy to use.

Weakness:

None yet.

This is my first DVD player, purchased after reviewing the comments here for this model, as well as several others. I didn't have a lot to spend on a player, but this one fit the bill perfectly for what i needed. I have watched 5 movies on it so far (some multiple times), and three of those 5 being rentals. not a skip, glitch, or anything bad to report yet. This player is whisper quiet, loads pretty fast, and looks great. I've seen several complaints here about the remote-- while the buttons are a bit small, i personally don't think the remote is anything horrible. Couldn't be happier with my purchase, especially at this price!

The panasonic Model dvd-R-30 is by far hands down the finest dvd player for a clear picture and sound.
Any one out there that thinks that sony has the better picture should either get new glasses or a new tv.
It may not have all the special features tha the sony has,
but it has some features that you can't get on other dvd players.I purchased four different players and did my
home work on the internet and library and feel very confident that i made the right choice.

Well, just wanted to give an update. I LOVE THIS THING!!! Haha, I just wanna let you all know that this thing is still as smo0oth as ever! It still plays flawlessly! I also just got a Cerwin Vega LW-10... 10" 100-watt sub-woofer. You might look at this and think that that isn't a very strong sub... well this thing THUMPS and makes stuff downstairs on the opposite side of the house rattle... at 1/2 power!!!!!!!!! What an improvement to movies! This sub is a lot lower (32 HZ) than my speakers (70HZ). I have also played some more sci-fi's and the picture is sooo sweeet, still! I also upgraded to an S-Video cable! I got it for like $13 at Radioshack... it is there "top of the line model" which is still about $30 less than a Mpnster Cable and still looks awesome!!!! The s-video cable made the picture a little bit clearer where the regular RCA jacks were a little less clear... they were good but the s-video cable is better! So that is the end of my update... I might update when I get my new t.v. and speakers... which I will be getting within the next year... Sony 27" WEGA, and Bose 301 series IV. So I will write back in a few months or whenever... hope everyone out there buys this thing...... its awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i also wish there could be a higher rating system... because this thing is waaaay better than 5-stars! =)
