Weakness:

Freezes up.

This product never worked from the start. It freezes up all the time. Panasonic and Intech would not stand by this product and would not replace it. Other reviews on this product states the same problem of freezing up. I would not buy any other Panasonic product in the future.

Semi-quality build. Works very well and is nice and clear. Great versatility. Freezes for a second or two randomly, but not that much. About once a movie. Great buy for the price i paid.

Strength:

Very good picture and sound and loaded with features - and Made in Japan, for a great price.

Weakness:

Remote is weak. It needs to be pointed directly at the player to work. MP3 files cannot be played in ''shuffle'' mode.

I have used this player several times a week for almost a year now and am very pleased with it. It has never given me a problem. It has more features than I expected for such a low priced player. It also plays MP3s with ease.

Strength:

Makes a nice doorstop.

Weakness:

Must slap, tap, or jostle the player as many as 20 times per movie to un-freeze playback.

After about 2 months, the Panasonic DVD-RV31 began having problems playing DVDs. Specifically, the playback will randomly freeze. It started out doing this occasionally, and now--after about 6 months of owning it--it does this constantly. It does not matter the disk--it happens with any of about 100 DVDs I own, and all of them play fine on other models. The freezing can happen as much as every few minutes, up to as often as 20 times during a single movie. THe only solution is to (quickly) tap or jostle the player for it to resume playing. If you wait too long to do this, it cannot recover from the error and has to be powered down. This is not a fluke, either. I personally know one other person who has had this problem with this model (and who had the foresight to return it immediately, unlike me). It''s also widely reported on several other websites (just check out the reviews at Amazon). While this player had all the features I was looking for at a great price--and it does have excellent picture and audio quality--the flaw that causes it to freeze (some people also get error codes) makes it completely unacceptable.

Strength:

Great value for money Simple to use

Weakness:

None that I can see

After reading all the reviews on Audio Review (thank you everyone who took the time to submit) it was clear that the DVD RV31 had the right balance of reliability, functionality and price. The reviews were right. This is a simple, no-frills machine that is easy to use and performs really well. I''m sure that you can get better DVD players - but not at this price

Picture quality, price, quiet, ease of use.

Weakness:

Remote, no coax audio out (had to goto the store and replace my coax cable with a optical one)

I''ve only owned this player for today, but so far so good. Previously I owned a Toshiba SD-1200. It was an excellent player for the 2 years I owned it, but it stopped reading most dual layer discs. So I did some research through here and Consumer Reports. This player had good reviews all through out. I was thinking of going with the Toshiba SD-3750, but decided against Toshiba period. They are still noisy players, and this one is very quiet and loads faster. Video is pretty much the same as the Toshiba in component video mode (very good). Audio is EXACTLY the same (but that is due to the fact that my reciever does the decoding, NOT the player. Most people don''t realize that when you use a digital cable to connect, the internal decoder is bypassed). Remote is about like the Toshiba... It''s a demon, but I can adjust to it. It''s about the player, not the remote-am I right? All around good player for the money so far. Only viewed AI and Scream 3 on it, but so far so good.

Strength:

Exceptional color rendition and fidelity, somptuous sound quality in using the optical output, reliability, read every type of dvd or cd in wathever conditions without skipping, truly a best buy in his category, vastly superior to many supposed better machines at his price level and often at a substantial higher prices.

Weakness:

the remote control should be much better

The dvd rv31 is in few words a fabulous dvd player. I have used it as a dvd and a cd player at least two hours daily since my purchase;the video image quality has few if no competitors at his price level for the time that I have bought it because the actual price has dropped significantly since 9 months (competition and the new dvd rv32) The same thing can be said regarding such parameters like sound quality, construction, ease and silence of operation, functionality, speed of reaction, many useful features and so on. Definitively a great machine from wich I am very proud and be sure that it is what I see and hear upon wich my appreciation is based. Excuse my english writing quality because I am a french canadian.

Strength:

As I said in my review, I found nothing major wrong with the unit (execpt the remote). Pluses are: The price, sub output, good picture quality, decent sound, not as ugly as other sub-$200 units.

Weakness:

No coax, "Cinema Features" don''t really do anything significant, vibration while in menus of some DVD''s. The remote is evil!!!!

I bought this DVD player as part of budget bedroom setup for myself and I am not disappointed. This DVD player does everything I expected it to do. It delivered a decent picture, acceptable sound, and a few cool features to boot. I''ve watched many DVD''s on this unit, and, surprisingly it hasn''t pissed me off yet. No skipping or lip-sync problems, or picture problems in sight. I have had no problems with it reading any of my DVD''s, even those with golden surfaces, or scratches. The other features (the ABCD features) sometimes come in handy, but most of the time I don''t use them. The mp3 playback works as advertised, even with very scratched cd''s. People mentioned the cheap build quality, but what can you expect for under $200? Actually, the outputs on the back feel solid, and the unit isn''t as ugly as other inexpensive players. The only problem that I have found with the unit is that there is excessive vibration when in the menus of slighty warped, or off-centered DVD''s. The only reason why I mentioned this is that the rattling part of the vibration goes away if you hold in the tray''s face. A couple of rubber pads behind the tray''s face would fix this problem, and I don''t see how Panasonic could have overlooked such a simple problem. Oh well, it doesn''t matter really because the same DVD''s that vibrate in the menus, are silent when playing, so this is really a non-issue. The only real complaint about this player is the remote. The button arrangement is terrible, with all the controls sandwiched in up top. Compounding the problem is that the eject button is right above the play button. I don''t know how many times I''ve ejected a disk instead of unpausing it. Another annoyance is that you have to stop an audio cd if you want to turn on, or turn off random play. The cd playback was actually ok, but personally, I would never use it for playing cd''s.
